Roto Riteup: May 17, 2018

This is further proof that I have the body to play professional baseball:

On the Agenda:

Just Say No

While talking to reporters yesterday, Joey Gallo made it emphatically clear that he does not want to play third base. He was very clear to illustrate that he was not kidding around saying that while he will do what is asked of him, he hates playing third base and does not want to do so. With Beltre down with a hamstring injury, this cements playing time for Jurickson Profar and Isiah Kiner-Falefa since Drew Robinson is also on the DL.

Various News and Notes

Carlos Gomez was placed on the 10-Day DL with a groin injury. Gomez has struggled this year hitting just .200 this year, but the counting stats have been there with him hitting five homers and swiping three bags. Johnny Field will garner the most extra playing time with Gomez out. Field has shown the ability to hit for a bit of pop and has a bit of speed and could be useful in AL Only formats.

Yoenis Cespedes has been placed on the DL with a strained hip flexor. The injury is not considered serious and he should be able to return fairly soon. Brandon Nimmo should get most of his playing time with Cespedes being out.

Ryan Braun missed his third game in a row with a back injury. He told reporters after the Brewers game that he feels like he will likely hit the DL. Fantasy owners should start looking for a DL replacement.

Starling Marte was not in yesterday’s lineup due to dealing with an oblique injury. Marte told reporters that while he doesn’t believe he will hit the DL with the injury, that it bothering him. He has been great this season, hitting .308/.363/.509 with 10 home runs and six stolen bases.

Streaming Pitchers Options

A pitcher for today: Matthew Boyd vs SEA

He gets a Cano-less and possibly Cruz-less Mariners squad at home, so it’s a decent gamble.

A pitcher for tomorrow: None

Hail Mary Pick: Nick Tropeano vs TB. Tropeano has shown flashes of the top prospect pedigree, but he hasn’t been able to get past 6.1 innings in any start yet this season, making it hard for him to qualify for quality starts.

Thanks, I was shying away from the start. He’s out on the waiver wire right now.
