Domestic Violence Allegations in MLB
In the last few days two players in Major League Baseball have been accused of domestic violence. Derek Norris’ former fiance alleged that he physically and emotionally abused her in a social media post on Tuesday. According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, MLB is investigating the allegations made and are taking the matter very seriously. On Wednesday evening, Addison Russell’s wife made allegations of infidelity known on her social media accounts. It was also alleged by a friend of Russell’s wife on social media that Russell had been physically abusive towards his wife in front of their two children. MLB has attempted to take domestic violence more seriously and has shown the willingness to penalize players without the players being convicted of a crime. More information will be available as these allegations are investigated by reporters and MLB.

Various News and Notes
Sean Newcomb will reportedly make his major league debut Saturday in a double header versus the Mets. Newcomb is a former top prospect that has had a fall from the tops of prospect lists over the last couple of years, but has rebounded this year in AAA. He still struggled with limiting the free passes, but has upped his strikeout rates. He may eventually end up as a power reliever, but the Braves will continue to give him a chance to stay as a starter long term.

Brad Miller was placed on the DL with a groin strain. Miller, who just returned from the DL for an unrelated injury, has struggled so far this season and hasn’t recorded a hit since May 12th. There isn’t yet a timetable for his return.

Cam Bedrosian has suffered a setback in his rehab. He experienced renewed soreness in his injured groin and now has been shut down and has no timetable for return at this time. This will hopefully be just a little bump in the return for the Angels reliever. Bud Norris has been very good in his absence and could pose an interesting dilemma as to who closes for the Angels once Bedrosian returns.

Manny Machado exited the game on wednesday after injuring his wrist. The injury happened in the second inning when Andrew McCutchen was attempting to steal third base and slide into Machado as he attempted to make the tag.

X-rays were negative and he is considered day-to-day at this time.

Streaming Pitcher Options
A pitcher for today: Edinson Volquez @ Pit
I usually wouldn’t start Volquez on the road, especially after such an amazing, but possibly emotional draining moment in his last start. However, PNC is a nice place to pitch and the Pirates lineup scares me less than the other options.

A pitcher for tomorrow: NONE
Hate to do this twice in a week, but the most interesting low end pitchers on the slate have poor matchups. Hopefully you took advantage of the Faria call from yesterday. Have a great weekend!

You wouldn’t roll with Cobb or Biagini tomorrow? In a points league?
