Roto Riteup: June 6, 2022

When you are about to walk in the room, but you hear your mom ask for help with a chore:

On the Agenda:

  1. Quick Hits
  2. Various News and Notes
  3. Streaming Pitchers

Quick Hits

Vladimir Gutierrez was placed on the IL with forearm soreness. There is no timetable for his return.

Taylor Ward was placed on the IL with a hamstring issue. It is not considered extremely serious, but he needed more than just a few days off. Jo Adell was called up to take his spot on the roster.

Jeimer Candelario left Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury after diving for a ball. Candelario was in obvious pain after the play and it did not look good. Consider him day-to-day for now, but it looks like it could seem like he could end up on the IL.

Corey Dickerson was placed on the IL with a calf strain. There is no timetable for his return at the moment.

Andrew Benintendi left Sunday’s game with calf tightness after fouling a ball off of it. He originally was able to stay in the game, but exited a few innings later. This sounds precautionary. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes

Travis Swaggerty was called up by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.

Swaggerty is a former first round pick in 2018 with 60 grade raw power and 65 grade speed according to FanGraphs own Eric Longenhagen and he projects to have an average hit tool. He also is an above average defender. This is an interesting profile for fantasy, but there are some questions about his high ground ball rate preventing him from tapping into the raw power and his strikeout rate ballooning in 2022 in AAA. He is worth a roster spot in deeper leagues, but is probably more of a watch list guy in 10 and 12 team leagues.

Donovan Walton went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in the Giants victory over the Marlins on Sunday.

Walton has played a lot for the Giants since being brought on to the Major League roster, hitting just .222, but seven of his eight hits have been for extra bases. The Giants clearly like him, but unless he can find a way to get on base more (just one walk in 37 plate appearances,) he won’t stay in the lineup long.

Franchy Cordero went 1-for-3 with a homerun in the victory over the Athletics.

Cordero has been playing regularly over the last two weeks, hitting .275 with two home runs while splitting time between first base and the outfield. Cordero has been an industry favorite as a sleeper for years, but has yet to deliver upon it and while there is plenty of power and speed in the profile, he strikes out at a rate that makes him a risky bet. For now, he becomes an interesting deep league gamble, but he should be on everyone’s radar.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: None

Only two pitchers qualify and neither are that enticing.

High Risk Options:  Daniel Lynch vs TOR, Ross Stripling vs KC.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Keegan Thompson at BAL

Thompson has looked pretty good and has a nice matchup in Baltimore.

High Risk Options: Edward Cabrera vs WAS, Graham Ashcraft vs ARI, Connor Pilkington vs TEX, Taylor Hearn at CLE, Jason Alexander vs PHI.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

Justin, how do you decide which videos to embed and where to put them? Also, how do you decide when to use apostrophes?
