Roto Riteup: July 29, 2013

The Roto Riteup pairs especially well with an A Perfect Circle inspired Pandora station.

On today’s agenda:
1. Biogenesis suspensions likely handed down this week
2. Albert Pujols likely done for the year
3. Jake Peavy will be traded before deadline
4. Derek Jeter returns with a bang

Biogenesis suspensions likely handed down this week
While we should all be having fun at the trade deadline, it looks like we’re going to have to deal with the continued fallout from the Biogenesis scandal, instead. The New York Post seems to have sources telling them that suspensions will be announced this week, and it sounds like A-Rod could be getting a swift kick in the pants.

While I wouldn’t suggest making any moves until things are official, if you have a player listed in the Biogenesis case, you should start making preparations to play without them for the rest of the 2013 campaign.

Albert Pujols likely done for the year
It’s a sad day when news about Pujols isn’t the days top headline, but that’s how serious the Biogenesis stuff is. Pujols has been diagnosed with a torn plantar fascia, and while he’s not officially done for the season, there is no real reason why he’d be rushed back to the field. Pujols still has eight years and over $200 million left on his contract, and the former cyborg will not be a first round fantasy pick for the first time since 2000.

Jake Peavy will be traded before deadline
The headline used presents 100% certainty, and even though that’s not the case, this is a place for hot sports opinions. Peavy already has his bags packed, and there’s no reason why he’d still be a member of the White Sox come August.

It sounds like the A’s are currently leading the pack in the pursuit of Peavy, but the Cardinals, Orioles, and Red Sox are still lurking. The Cardinals are especially intriguing, as they are said to be pursuing a package of both Peavy and Alexei Ramirez. Personally, I’d love to see Peavy play in St. Louis; his talent in that ballpark could make him unstoppable, at least when he’s healthy. A move to Oakland would also be advantageous due to their spacious park and above-average defense.

Derek Jeter returns with a bang
After a second stint on the DL, Jeter came back yesterday and hit a donger in his first trip to the plate. Jeter also singled and walked in five trips to the dish, so hopefully this is the start of a productive last two months for The Captain.
