Roto Riteup: June 22, 2017

  1. A lot of people were offended by Yasiel Puig and his action during his home run last night:

However, I was reminded by Grant Brisbee of McCovey Chronicles that this isn’t even close to the worst (or best) of all time:

On the Agenda:

1. Mr. Perfect vs #NeverBunt
2. Joey Bats-man
3. Various News and Notes
4. Streaming Pitcher Options

Mr. Perfect vs #NeverBunt
Yesterday, Justin Verlander had not allowed a base runner through 5.1 innings versus the Mariners. In the 6th inning Jarrod Dyson broke up the perfect with this bunt single:

The bunt caused a stir on on twitter and appeared to get to Verlander. He would only record one more out in the inning and give up two more hit and issue a walk which would result in three earned runs before being pulled. Verlander did strike out 11 during this start and it looks like he may be getting back on track after a rough start to the season.

If you’re interested in the statcast data on the bunt, here you go:

Joey Bats-man
According to Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com, Jose Bautista will be the everyday leadoff man for the Blue Jays. Bautista has a career .352 OBP when leading off and is sporting a 13.3% walk rate this year. With the move up the lineup, Bautista should gain some added runs scored with the Jays potent lineup behind him.

Various News and Notes
Eduardo Nunez has been diagnosed with inflammation in his injured hamstring according to the MRI results he received yesterday. He is considered day-to-day at this time.

Zach Wheeler has been placed on the DL with bicep tendonitis because “Mets.” Wheeler is expected to only miss one start, but considering Wheeler has only thrown one inning total of professional ball in the previous two seasons due to injury, it may be a matter of time before the Mets shut him down in what is looking like a lost season.

Dexter Fowler left Wednesday’s game with tightness in his quad. He is considered day-to-day at this time. If he needs to go on the DL, it could further cement Tommy Pham’s role that I wrote about yesterday. Pham hit two home runs in Wednesday’s game giving him three in two games.

Streaming Pitcher Options
A pitcher for today: None
Had a writeup for Jaime Garcia and then realized he was barely over 50% owned. Jesse Hahn and David Paulino were both considered, but are too high risk to be recommended.

A pitcher for tomorrow: Seth Lugo @ SF
Lugo has looked good since his return and gets the pitiful Giants offense in the comfy confines of At&t Park.

As Donaldson goes down with another injury. I think he must be talking about Smoak and Morales? They’re pretty much the only players that are hitting right now.
