Closer Chaos

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Nationals are targeting Ryan Madson among others to add to their shaky bullpen. The Nationals have struggled this year at the back end of their bullpen and are expected to be a huge player at the deadline. With names such as Kelvin Herrera, David Robertson, AJ Ramos, and Brad Hand expected to be available, it would be surprising to not see the Nationals grab a couple new arms for their bullpen. Washington also placed Shawn Kelley on the DL. Enny Romero may emerge as the man in the meantime as he picked up his second save on Saturday.

Aroldis Chapman has been activated off of the DL for the Yankees. He will return to his closing role and Dellin Betances will go back to setting up for him. Betances was fantastic in Chapman’s absence, not allowing a run in 10 innings and striking out 19.

Kenley Jansen has yet to allow a walk this season. 50 strikeouts in 29.2 innings, but NO WALKS. His K/BB is #DIV/0! That’s sick.

A New Story?

Trevor Story has struggled much of the season hitting .227/.318/.433 with 10 home runs and two stolen bases, but over the last week he appears to be putting things together. He has hit .409/.458/.682 in the last seven games with two home runs. It is probably not coincidental that the Rockies have started the month of June with a bunch of road games and they have now returned home for a short stretch. The Rockies June schedule has them out of Colorado for 18/27 games, but once July rolls around they have more home games remaining than on the road. Story will be a guy that runs hot and cold and fantasy owners will have to be patient with the young slugger and not jump ship during prolonged slumps. It appears that Story is beginning one of the hot streaks, so hold on tight and enjoy the ride.

Various News and Notes

Jarrett Parker is expected to start a rehab assignment on Monday. Parker broke his collarbone April after running into a wall attempting to make a catch and has been on the shelf since. Once ready, he should return to a close to everyday role in left field in San Francisco as the giants have been running out a hodge podge of guys to fill the hole.

Eduardo Nunez missed another game on Sunday with hamstring tightness. This will be the third straight game missed for Nunez who was removed from the game on Thursday after pulling up lame attempting to beat out a throw to first on a ground ball. If Nunez can’t play soon, a DL stint may be in his future.

Dustin Pedroia was removed from Sunday’s game with a rib injury. He had been hit by a pitch earlier in the game and experienced some swelling later on that reportedly caused him some difficulty so he was taken to the hospital for x-rays. No word yet on the results of those x-rays. He should be considered day-to-day until more information is available.

Streaming Pitcher Options

A pitcher for today: None

I trust no one that is less than 50% owned that is pitching today.

A pitcher for tomorrow: Amir Garrett @ TB

The Rays struggle against left-handed pitching and Garrett looked good in his last start. I still believe in his talent, but he is unreliable.

Other potential options include: Mike Montgomery vs SD, Francis Martes @ Oak.

Hi Justin, not that your readers don’t know exactly who you’re referring to but David Robertson should be linked instead.
