Various News and Notes
Pablo Sandoval was forced out of Monday’s game with a hand injury on this play:

Sandoval was the next hitter up in the inning, so he didn’t have much time to shake off the injury. He needed stitches after the game, but appears to have avoided serious injury. Sandoval is having a bounceback season and could be a popular trade piece considering how cheap he will be in salary and trade return.

Mike Clevinger returned from the IL and started versus the Rangers. He went 4.2 innings, allowing five runs in the outing while striking out seven. Clevinger started strong in the outing, but faded as he went deeper into the game. He definitely had some rust, but he flashed the talent that we all saw in the beginning of the season and should be activated in all formats.

Manny Machado has been suspended by Major League Baseball for this altercation with an umpire.

Machado is appealing the decision and will play until a ruling from Major League Baseball.

Hunter Pence was placed on the 10-Day IL with a hamstring injury. Pence injured himself while playing the field and making an awkward play. There is no current timetable for his return. Willie Calhoun has been activated from the IL to take his place on the roster.

John Mozalak stated that the Cardinals “should give real thought to” moving Carlos Martinez back into the rotation. The Cardinals reportedly gave him and extra inning of relief as the start of stretching him back out for the rotation. Martinez is a good stash in leagues he is available.

Quick Hits
Craig Mish of FNTSY reported that Caleb Smith could return to the rotation this week for the Marlins. Smith has been on the IL with a hip injury, but is apparently ready to return.

Teoscar Hernandez left Monday’s game with an ankle injury. X-rays came back negative following the game. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Dallas Keuchel is expected to make his season debut on Friday.

Justin Upton was activated from the 10-Day IL. Upton had been sidelined with a toe injury.

Logan Allen will make his Major League debut on Tuesday. Allen is a top 100 prospect for the Padres, but not a big fantasy prospect as he has a limited ceiling. He has a tough first matchup with the Brewers.
