Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest

On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested. (Will add a link once available.)

COVID Issues

Garrett Hampson was placed on the COVID IL. No word on whether he tested positive or is just having symptoms.

The Yankees placed Luis Severino on the COVID IL.  He has not tested positive but has experienced symptoms. The hope is he will be ok for Tuesday’s start if he feels better.

Quick Hits

Aaron Ashby left Thursday’s game with forearm tightness. The move is being called precautionary, but this is concerning.

Tylor Megill left his start on Thursday with shoulder tightness. This is concerning as he just returned from a bicep injury. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Bo Bichette left Thursday’s game with a leg injury. X-rays were negative, so consider him day-to-day.

Yadier Molina will be placed on the IL with a knee injury. Molina is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks, but likely will be out until after the All Star Break. The Cardinals are expected to call up Ivan Herrera. Herrera is a hit tool first catcher with a bit of pop. He is hitting .291/.388/.436 with three home runs and a stolen base in AAA this year and could be an interesting C2 in deeper leagues.

Various News and Notes

Christopher Morel went 2-for-4 with a home run and a stolen base in the loss to the Padres on Wednesday.

Morel has been fantastic, hitting .283/.359/.513 with five home runs and seven stolen bases. He has led off every game he has played since May 24th as well. The contact skills aren’t great and he will regress at some point, but he has a great power and speed profile as long as he can keep getting at bats.

Nomar Mazara went 2-for-3 with his first home run of the season on Thursday.

Mazara has been great since getting the call up, hitting .350/.395/.475. He is sporting a 14% strikeout rate at this point and making decent contact. He is still just 27 years old and there is a good amount of power in the bat. He won’t play versus lefties, but in deeper leagues he could be interesting.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Devin Smeltzer at ARI

Smeltzer isn’t super talented, but this is a nice matchup.

High Risk Options: Madison Bumgarner vs MIN, Keegan Thompson vs ATL, Daniel Lynch at OAK, Zach Thompson vs SF, Dean Kremer vs TB, Ross Stripling vs NYY.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Cole Irvin vs KC

A pretty nice matchup at home for Irvin

High Risk Options: Brad Keller at OAK, Dylan Bundy at ARI, Justin Steele vs ATL, Taylor Hearn at DET, Jason Alexander at CIN.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
