Closer Chaos

Keaton Winn was placed on the IL with an elbow strain. With Winn out, Caleb Killian and Erik Miller are likely the best candidates for saves moving forward in San Francisco. Tristan Beck was recalled to take Winn’s spot on the roster. 

Andres Muñoz left Sunday’s game with back stiffness. 

Consider him day-to-day for now. Jose Ferrer would likely be the next man up if Muñoz misses time.

Quick Hits
Jose Ramirez was placed on the IL with a fractured hamate bone. This is the second time in his career Ramirez has broken his hamate, last time on his other hand. He will likely miss 4-to-6 weeks. Gabriel Arias was activated from the IL to take Ramirez’s spot on the roster.

Vinnie Pasquantino was placed on the IL with a broken hamate bone. He will likely miss 4-to-6 weeks with the injury. John Rave was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Freddy Fermin was placed on the 7-Day concussion IL after being hit in the head during warm-ups. There is no timetable for his return. Blake Hunt was called up to take his spot on the roster.

Michael Helman was placed on the IL with a fractured hand. There is no timetable for his return. Alejandro Osuna was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Josh Naylor left Sunday’s game after fouling a pitch off his leg. X-rays were negative. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes
A.J. Ewing went 3-for-5 with a home run in the victory over the Braves on Sunday.

Ewing has been very good since his callup, hitting two home runs and stealing seven bases with a .267/.339/.381 triple slash in 120 plate appearances. He doesn’t hit the ball particularly hard, but he does make a lot of contact, draws walks and steals bases. He is also a plus defender which will give him leeway if he does struggle at times.

Stephen Kolek threw 7.1 scoreless innings versus the Astros, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out four in the victory on Sunday.

Kolek was great in the outing, throwing his slider for a 50% whiff rate and keeping hitters off-balanced with his other five offerings. Kolek doesn’t strike a lot of guys out, but he does induce a lot of weak contact. There isn’t a ton of upside, but a pretty nice floor.

Cooper Pratt is expected to make his Major League debut on Tuesday.

Pratt signed an eight year deal at the beginning of the season with the Brewers so it was a matter of time before he was called up. He doesn’t have the highest upside and profiles to be more of an accumulator than a fantasy star. It remains to be seen if he can play enough to produce fantasy goodness this season.

Noelvi Marte went 1-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Reds on Sunday.

Marte has been hot over his last four games and has homered in his last three. The talent has never been in question for Marte, but he has struggled with consistency and playing time as well as injuries and a PED suspension. There is risk in the profile, but there is upside as well.

Pitcher for Today: Andrew Alvarez vs KC

Alvarez has pitched well but there is some risk he won’t go deep enough for a win, but it’s a good matchup. 

Other Options: Ryne Nelson vs LAA, J.T. Ginn vs PIT, Jared Jones at ATH, Dustin May vs SD, Walbert Urena at ARI, Troy Melton at HOU, Kai-Wei Teng vs DET, Eric Lauer 라우어 vs TB. 

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Foster Griffin vs KC

Griffin continues to pitch well and has a good matchup at home.

Other Options: Zebby Matthews at TEX, Jack Perkins vs PIT, Christian Scott at CIN, Brandon Young at SEA, Brady Sinder vs NYM, Robert Gasser vs CLE, Andre Pallante vs SD, Merrill Kelly 켈리 vs LAA.
