Quick Hits

Tim Anderson was placed on the IL with a groin strain. This is not unexpected as Anderson left the game in pain on Sunday. The move is retroactive to Monday. He is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

Joey Wentz left Tuesday’s start with a shoulder strain. He was likely to return to the minors anyway, but this likely ensures he won’t be on the roster long.

Jean Segura left Tuesday’s game with a hand injury after being hit with a pitch. X-rays confirmed that he fractured the index finger on his right hand. This will likely send Segura to the IL. Bryson Stott is likely to gain playing time while Segura is out.

Evan Longoria left Tuesday’s game with a shoulder issue. He is expected to miss Wednesday’s game because of it. Consider him day-to-day for now, but hopefully he will be ok because he has been raking as of late.

Various News and Notes
Alejandro Kirk went 3-for-4 with two home runs in the victory over the White Sox.

Kirk capped off a fantastic May in which he hit .347 with three home runs and only struck out six times in 72 92 plate appearances. Kirk hadn’t shown much power this year until yesterday, but he is showing it now. He is still an underrated trade target in leagues where you need a catcher upgrade.

Cristian Javier threw four innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and four walks while striking out four in the no-decision.

Javier really struggled with his control in this one which was the reason he didn’t even get the opportunity to pitch the fifth. His strikeout ability saved him from a really bad day which is lucky. Javier has been fantastic this season, with only one really bad outing. There will be days like this so it nice to see he was able to escape without destroying his ERA.

Martin Perez threw seven scoreless innings versus the Rays, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out five.

Perez was fantastic once again, keeping the Rays off balanced with a great mix of his sinker, change and cutter. He is one of three qualified pitchers this season that has yet to give up a home run. Regression is coming at some point, but for now, ride the hot streak.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Jeffrey Springs at TEX

Springs has looked great and I like this matchup in Texas

High Risk Options:  Jon Gray vs TB, Brad Keller at CLE, Mitch White vs PIT.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Matthew Liberatore at CHC

Liberatore has looked good in his first few starts and he has a nice matchup in Chicago.

High Risk Options: Johnny Cueto at TOR, Adrian Houser vs SD, Chris Flexen at BAL, Taylor Hearn vs TB, Alex Faedo vs MIN, Jordan Lyles vs SEA.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
