Trade Rumors!!!

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Mets have interest in Asdrubal Cabrera.  Cabrera is hitting .251/.346/.404 with five home runs and a stolen base so far this season. He has the ability to play multiple positions and shouldn’t command a high price in terms of prospects.

COVID Issues

Mitch Moreland was placed on the IL without any reason given. Moreland had been away from the team on July 3rd due to a family issue, so this could be close contact or just clearing COVID protocols.

Quick Hits

CJ Abrams will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his leg. He also sprained his MCL in the collision at second base which caused the injury. This is disappointing because there was some hope he might be up this season, but he is still a top tier fantasy prospect and should make his debut at some point next season.

Carlos Martinez left Sunday’s game with a bruised thumb. The injury happened during an at bat in the third inning, but he tried to pitch through it before being removed in the fourth. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Both Taylor Ward and Anthony Rendon left Sunday’s game. Rendon left with hamstring tightness and Ward left with a finger injury . Manager Joe Maddon stated that both may be available on Monday, but it sounds like they will likely be out of the lineup. Either way, it doesn’t sound like these are serious injuries.

Buster Posey left Sunday’s game with a thumb injury. The injury does not appear to be serious, but the Giants have already ruled him out for Monday’s game.

Various News and Notes

Joe Ross threw 6.2 innings versus the Dodgers, allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out 11. Ross worked mostly sinker and slider and both pitches were effective and sported 30+% CSWs.

Ross has now thrown five quality starts in his last six outings and has been impressive even when he struggled in starts. He should be picked up in all formats.

Zach Thompson threw six innings versus the Braves in a no-decision, allowing three earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six.

Thompson was effective with all four of his pitches, sporting a 31% CSW in the outing. He has been really impressive so far this season and is worth picking up as he should have a rotation spot until Sixto Sanchez returns and potentially after as well.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Kolby Allard vs DET

Allard has been very good for Texas recently and he gets the Tigers at home in the comfy confines of Globe Life Park.

High Risk Options: Zach Davies vs PHI, Kwang Hyun Kim 김광현 at SF, Vladimir Gutierrez at KC, Martin Perez at LAA, Tylor Megill vs MIL, Bailey Ober vs CHW

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Merrill Kelly 켈리 vs COL

Kelly gets a nice matchup here with the Rockies in Arizona and he has been pitching very well of late.

High Risk Options: Ryan Weathers vs WAS, Dane Dunning vs DET.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

So, Jose Suarez not even a high risk option vs. BOS today?
