Trades!
The Phillies acquired Jason Vargas from the Mets. No word on whether this guy was a part of the deal:

Vargas’ value doesn’t change dramatically outside of worse park factors. This does likely mean the Phillies no longer looking for a starter.

The Brewers acquired Jordan Lyles from the Pirates for Cody Ponce. Lyles started off the season hot, but has since set my Tout Wars team’s ERA on fire. Moving from Pittsburgh’s spacious park to homer friendly Miller Park won’t do much to help him turn it around.

Trade Rumors!
According to Andy Martino, Zach Wheeler talks are expected to intensify on Tuesday. Wheeler just came off the IL, but because he is a free agent at the end of the season and he won’t cost a ton, he is becoming a piece teams covet. Wheeler’s surface numbers aren’t great, his FIP and SIERRA are much lower than his ERA.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Pirates are asking for Gavin Lux in a Felipe Vasquez trade. Olney also states that the Dodgers have balked at the asking price. Lux is one of the top prospects in baseball and pretty much Major League ready at this point. Vasquez has been a hot name in rumors lately, but if this is the asking price for him, it seems unlikely that he will move.

Various News and Notes
Carson Kelly went 2-for 3 with a home run in the Diamondbacks loss to the Marlins. Kelly has been great since being traded to Arizona, hitting .268/.357/.541 with 13 home runs in 235 plate appearances. Kelly has been a great C2 this season in a season of a weird catching pool in fantasy. He is defensively sound and should get more opportunities higher up in the lineup at some point.

The Cardinals have demoted struggling outfielder Harrison Bader. Bader has struggled this season, especially against southpaws, who he has traditionally crushed. His defense should get him back to the Majors eventually, but for now he is droppable in all formats.

Quick Hits
Ken Giles was unavailable to pitch on Monday for the Blue Jays. Giles is dealing with a minor elbow injury and is expected to be fine according to the Blue Jays, but this could affect their ability to move him in a trade at the deadline. Daniel Hudson should get saves in the meantime, but he has been rumored to be moved as well.

Charlie Blackmon was scratched from Monday’s game with back stiffness. This appears to be precautionary, but it is something to monitor.

Eugenio Suarez left Monday’s game with back stiffness. This doesn’t seem too bad, so consider him day-to-day at this time.

Dwight Smith Jr. left Monday’s game after aggravating his calf injury. Smith has been nursing the injury, but came in as a pinch hitter and then hurt himself again. Consider him day-to-day, but this may end him up on the IL.

Julio Urias is scheduled to start on Tuesday. Urias has been pitching in relief, but with Ross Stripling on the IL, the Dodgers will slot him back into the rotation. The game is in Colorado, so it is not one most will want to start him for anyhow.

Freddy Galvis left Monday’s game with back tightness. This appears to be just precautionary, so consider him day-to-day at this time.

Kike Hernandez was placed on the 10-Day DL with a wrist sprain. There is no current timetable for his return.
