Roto Riteup: July 29, 2024
Will we get a moment like this during this year’s trade deadline?
7/29/2015 Wilmer Flores gets emotional on the field and in the dugout after reports of a trade circulate around the ballpark. After the game, Sandy Alderson announces that there is no deal and Flores will stay in Queens. pic.twitter.com/nQWoYn4Ook

Trades and Rumors!
Jason Adam was traded to the Padres for Dylan Lesko, Homer Bush Jr., and JD Gonzalez. Adam will likely just be a set up man in San Diego.
Isaac Paredes was traded to the Cubs for Chrisopher Morel. This is an interesting challenge trade for both teams. Paredes has been the better player this season, but Morel has a massive ceiling if he can learn to make more consistent contact.
Closer Chaos
Devin Williams threw a scoreless inning for the Brewers, allowing a walk and a hit in the outing. Williams was working a four run lead, so this was not a save spot, but it is very interesting that the Brewer threw him into a late inning spot. Williams was an elite closer for the Brewers so it won’t be surprising if he takes over the closer role from Trevor Megill.
Quick Hits
Jose Miranda left Sunday’s game after being hit in the head with a pitch.

Miranda reportedly passed concussion protocol. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Jon Gray was removed from the game during his warm up pitches due to a groin injury. Consider him day-to-day.
Josh Bell was placed on waivers by the Marlins. He is likely to get claimed by a competing team but we will have to wait and see who is willing to take on his contract.
Reynaldo Lopez left his start on Sunday with forearm tightness. This is concerning as it is often a precursor for Tommy John surgery. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Nick Gonzales was placed on the IL with a groin injury. He is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks.
Kevin Keirmaier left Sunday’s game with a hip injury. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Hunter Harvey left Sunday’s game with a back issue. Considering him day-to-day for now.
Jorge Polanco left Sunday’s game with a knee issue. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Brenton Doyle left Sunday’s game with a finger injury. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Various News and Notes
Gavin Lux went 1-for-2 with a home run and three walks in the victory over the Astros on Sunday.

— Talkin’ Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) July 28, 2024
Lux has been on fire in the second half, hitting .464 with three home runs and a stolen base in his 28 at bats. Lux has always had power and talent to go along with it, but struggled to make hard contact and elevate the ball in the first half. If he can improve upon this, then he can break out in the way many believed he would when he was a top tier prospect.
Xavier Edwards went 4-for-5 and hit for the cycle on Sunday.

Edwards does not have much power, but he does make a lot of contact, walk and steal bases. With all of the departures from the Marlins, Edwards should continue to hit high up in the lineup, making him a cheap source of average, runs, and stolen bases rest of the way.
