Roto Riteup: July 29, 2019

I know what I am asking Santa for this year:

On the Agenda:
1. Trades!
2. Trade Rumors!
3. Various News and Notes
4. Quick Hits
5. Streaming Pitching Options

Trades!
The Mets acquired Marcus Stroman from the Toronto Blue Jays for prospects Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods-Richardson. This is a weird trade as most expected the Mets to be sellers instead of buyers. It is clear the Mets are looking to reload for 2020 as opposed to do a full tear down.

The Tampa Bay Rays acquired Eric Sogard from the Toronto Blue Jays for two players to be named later. Sogard has been fantastic this season, but will likely play a super utility role in Tampa. This further complicates an already overcrowded situation in the Tampa infield.

The Cleveland Indians acquired Christian Arroyo and Hunter Wood for prospect Rueben Cardenas from the Tampa Bay Rays. After acquiring Sogard, Arroyo became expendable for the Rays. None of these players are fantasy relevant right now.

Trade Rumors!
According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Athletics have made inquiries to the Mets on Zach Wheeler and Noah Syndergaard and to the Tigers on Shane Greene. The A’s already have acquired Jake Diekman and are currently in position for a Wild Card spot, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see them make a few more moves. However, considering their history of thriftiness, it would be surprising to see them become serious contenders for Syndergaard.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Padres are “not optimistic” about their prospects in trading for Noah Syndergaard. The asking price for Thor seems very high, which is good news if you are Mrs. Met.

Various News and Notes
Bo Bichette is being called up to the Major Leagues. Bichette is the top prospect in the Blue Jays system and has been great this season, hitting .290 with eight home runs and 16 stolen bases in the minors this season. He should be in for every day at bats with Eric Sogard being traded yesterday and is a top pickup in all formats.

According to manager Terry Francona, the Indians are close to activating Danny Salazar from the IL. Salazar was great in his last rehab start and the Indians have a concrete plan for him in his long awaited return from injury:

According to manager Torrey Lovullo, Greg Holland will be removed from the closer’s role for the time being. Yoan Lopez is expected to get the majority of the opportunities moving forward.

Quick Hits
CC Sabathia was placed on the 10-Day IL. The Yankees are now pretty thin in the rotation, so this places added pressure on them to acquire a starter or two at the deadline.

Danny Santana left Sunday’s game with a calf injury. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Josh Phegley was removed from Sunday’s game with a thumb injury. X-rays were negative following the game. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Max Scherzer is unlikely to make his next start according to manager Dave Martinez. Scherzer is still dealing with a back injury and could end up back on the IL.

Ronald Acuna was removed from Sunday’s game with a neck issue. The Braves are calling this precautionary, so it appears it is not anything serious.

Jean Segura left Sunday’s game with a shin bruise. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Tommy Pham left Sunday’s game with a hand sprain. There was no word on his condition after the game.
