Quick Hits

Spencer Steer was placed on the IL with a wrist injury. He is expected to miss extended time and that could be the remainder of the season. He is droppable in all formats. Ivan Johnson was recalled to take his spot on the roster. 

Cody Bellinger was placed on the IL with a hamstring injury. He is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks which makes him droppable in most formats where you cannot easily reserve him.

Kerry Carpenter was placed on the IL with plantar fasciitis. There is no timetable for his return. Eduardo Valencia was recalled to take his spot on the roster. 

Esmerlyn Valdez left Monday’s game after being hit in the hand with a pitch.

He is expected to undergo further testing on Tuesday. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Casey Schmitt left Monday’s game with a knee injury.

Manager Tony Vitello stated that there was some worry about the severity of the injury, but he will undergo further testing and get an MRI on Tuesday. Consider him day-to-day for now, but expect him to go on the IL.

Curtis Mead left Monday’s game with a hand injury after being hit with a pitch.

The Red Sox stated that they don’t believe the injury to be serious and x-rays were negative. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

 

Various News and Notes
Marcus Semien went 3-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Braves on Monday.

Semien has struggled this season, hitting just .214/.271/.358 with 12 home runs and six stolen bases in 348 plate appearances. However, he has three homers in the last week and may be starting to turn things around. He is worth picking up for the hot streak in case it continues.

Andrés Chaparro went 1-for 2 with a home run in the loss to the Blue Jays on Monday.

Chaparro has played more against lefties this season, but he could be in line for more playing time with Curtis Mead being traded to the Red Sox. He is probably only useful in deeper formats, but someone to monitor moving forward.

Jonah Heim went 1-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Red Sox on Monday.

With Shea Langeliers getting season ending knee surgery, Heim is expected to be the main catcher behind the plate for the Athletics. He has power and a fantastic home park, but there is a chance he gets dealt at the deadline. If he doesn’t, he becomes a viable C2 moving forward.

Grant McCray went 1-for-3 with a home run in the victory over the Brewers on Monday.

This was not only McCray’s first home run, but his first hit of the season. He is more known for his speed and defense with 15 steals between the Majors and minors this season. With the Giants likely moving a number of veterans, McCray could be a cheap source of speed down the stretch in deeper leagues.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in Yahoo)

Pitcher for Today: Landen Roupp vs MIL

Roupp has a tough matchup, but he has been better recently and is worth streaming at home. 

Other Options: Anthony Kay vs NYY, Seth Lugo at MIN, Gage Jump vs BOS, Christian Scott vs ATL, Colin Rea at STL, Brady Singer vs CLE, Hunter Dobbins vs CHC, Brandon Pfaadt at PIT. 

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Shane Drohan at SF

Drohan has pitched well this season and has a nice matchup in a great park.

Other Options: Ian Seymour vs TEX, Joey Cantillo at CIN, Grant Holmes at NYM, Eric Lauer vs SEA.
