Various News and Notes
Chris Taylor was removed from the game on Sunday after being hit on the wrist with a pitch. X-rays were negative after the game. Taylor is likely to lose playing time moving forward anyhow as the Dodgers have gotten back Corey Seager and A.J. Pollock back from the IL. Pollock has started out hot in his return from the IL, going 3-for-6 with a home run and four RBIs in the 12 inning victory versus the Red Sox yesterday.

Matt Thaiss went 2-for-3 with the go ahead home run in the Angels victory over the Mariners on Sunday. Thaiss has struggled since being promoted to the Majors and has never turned into the top prospect the Angels thought they were getting when they took him in the first round of the MLB Draft back in 2016. His power showed a bit more in AAA this year, but so did everyone’s with the juiced MLB balls being used in AAA. It is unlikely that he will be able to carve out enough playing time in Anaheim to be anything more than an AL Only option.

Eloy Jimenez hit his 17th home run of the season on Sunday. Jimenez started off the year a bit slow, but has since adjusted, hitting .270/.346/.577 with 10 home runs since June 1st. With the way the ball is flying right now, he could easily hit another 20 home runs the rest of the way.

According to manager Bruce Bochy, Evan Longoria has been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. Typically this would be an injury that could keep him out for a while, but Bochy stated that he could play on Monday. However, these injuries tend to linger, so just because he plays doesn’t mean he may not still hit the IL.

Brad Peacock was supposed to come off the IL on Monday, but experienced some sort of setback in his rehab yesterday and is heading back to Houston for further evaluation. Josh James will act as the opener for today’s game, but the Astros may need to be more aggressive on the trade front if this injury to Peacock just got more serious.

Quick Hits
Mike Trout left Sunday’s game with a calf injury. He will undergo an MRI today to examine the extent of the injury.

Willson Contreras did not play on Sunday because of soreness in his right foot. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Jesse Winker was forced out of Sunday’s game with an oblique injury.

Adam Plutko is expected to start today versus the Tigers.

Homer Bailey is expected to make his debut for the Athletics in Oakland versus the Mariners. Bailey was traded to Oakland on Sunday.

Rowdy Tellez was optioned to AAA Buffalo by the Blue Jays.

Dereck Rodriguez is expected to be called up on Monday to pitch the second half of the doubleheader for the Giants today.
