COVID Issues

Anthony Rizzo has been placed on the COVID IL after testing positive. He will miss at least the next 10 Days.

Quick Hits

Michael Brantley was removed from Sunday’s game after this collision with Andrelton Simmons

The move is being characterized as cautionary. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Javy Baez left Sunday’s game with hip tightness. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Ramiel Tapia left Sunday’s game with a toe sprain. This sounds like a reaggravation of his previous injury, but hopefully it doesn’t end him back on the IL. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Justin Turner left Sunday’s game with a groin issue. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes
Chris Sale is expected to make his 2021 Major League debut on Saturday against the Orioles. Sale has been rehabbing from Tommy John Surgery and been impressive in the minors. He should be picked up in all formats.

Luis Gil threw five scoreless innings versus the Mariners, allowing two hits and two walks in the no-decision.

Gil has now thrown two impressive scoreless starts to begin his Major League career, but was promptly optioned following the game. I would expect him to return at some point this season, but for now, he is being rostered in redraft formats until we know he is coming back.

Luis Robert is expected to rejoin the White Sox on Monday. There is no confirmation that he will be in the lineup, but it appears he is ready to return. He has enormous upside, but there are questions about where he will hit in the lineup and if he can maintain a respectable strikeout rate. He has league winning potential and should be rostered in all formats.

Bradley Zimmer went 2-for-5 with a home run in the victory over the Tigers on Sunday.

Zimmer has been productive since being recalled, hitting .247 with three home runs and seven stolen bases while sporting an almost 10% walk rate. However, he continues to strike out at a 35% clip which will limit hit upside and eventually cost him playing time. I love the upside, but he has yet to deliver upon the promise of his pedigree.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: None

Short slate with only three options.

High Risk Options:  Carlos Hernandez vs NYY

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Ross Stripling vs LAA

Tough matchup here, but Stripling has been good lately.

High Risk Options: Drew Smyly vs CIN, Daniel Lynch vs NYY.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
