Who is coming with me?!?

On the Agenda:

  1. COVID Issues
  2. Quick Hits
  3. Various News and Notes
  4. Streaming Pitchers

COVID Issues

Gary Sanchez was placed on the COVID IL after testing positive for COVID-19. Rob Brantly was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Quick Hits

Eli White was placed on the IL with an elbow strain. There is no timetable for his return.

Robbie Grossman left Thursday’s game with an elbow injury after being hit by a pitch. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Juan Soto left Thursday’s game with a knee issue. Manager Davey Martinez stated that Soto felt something in his knee near the end of the game, which does not sound good. He is expected to undergo further testing on Friday. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes

Jorge Mateo was claimed off of waivers by the Orioles on Thursday. Mateo was designated for assignment from the Padres this week after struggling in a limited role for San Diego. Mateo is a former top prospect with a ton of speed and Baltimore is the type of location that could give him some opportunities. He isn’t worth picking up right now, but someone to monitor in deeper formats.

Braxton Garrett threw five scoreless innings against the Mets, allowing five hits and four walks while striking out six.

Garrett was effectively wild in this one, but was able to work out of trouble when he put men on base. Garrett isn’t an overpowering arm, but more of a kitchen sink kind of guy that can be effective when he has his command. I would like him to throw the curve a bit more, but he is still developing. He should have an opportunity to get a few more starts while the Marlins are waiting for other starters to get healthy and can be used in good matchups as a streamer.

Jarred Kelenic went 2-for-3 three with a home run in the loss to the Yankees on Thursday.

Kelenic has struggled in his first two times up in the Majors, but he has started to improve over the last 10 days, hitting .265 with four home runs and five walks in 39 plate appearances since July 27th. I have all the confidence in the world he will be very good at some point, it is just a matter of when.

Edward Oliveras went 1-for-4 with the go ahead home run in the seventh inning against the White Sox on Thursday.

Oliveras has been up and down between the Majors and minors this season, but with Soler out of town, he may have a real opportunity to get every day at bats in Kansas City. He has power and speed with a decent enough hit tool to unlock it all. He is a very interesting add in deeper mixed leagues.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Cal Quantrill vs DET

Quantril has been fantastic as of late and has a decent match up here.

High Risk Options:  Matt Manning at CLE, Marco Gonzales at NYY, Caleb Smith at SD, Erick Fedde at ATL

Pitcher for Tomorrow: None

Some really interesting high risk options, but no one that I feel super comfortable with.

High Risk Options: Adbert Alzolay vs CHW, Tanner Houck st TOR, Jesus Luzardo at COL, Brad Keller at STL, Vladimir Gutierrez vs PIT, Eli Morgan vs DET.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

Kelenic has a ridiculously low BABIP, which can’t possibly continue, right?? It’s not even that he has an inordinate amount of fly balls, so it has to be mainly bad luck.
