COVID Issues

Noah Syndergaard will not make his next minor league rehab start due to testing positive for COVID-19. Syndergaard will now miss the next ten days which makes it less likely he will return to the Majors this season.

Quick Hits

Anthony DeSclafani left his start on Sunday in the fourth inning. Manager Gabe Kapler stated that there was no physical issue, but a strategic decision to ease him back in. Keep an eye on this.

Ke’Bryan Hayes left Sunday’s game with a hand injury after being hit by a pitch. X-rays were negative following the game. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

J.T. Realmuto left Sunday’s game with an ankle issue. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes

Keibert Ruiz will be called up on Monday by the Nationals. Ruiz was the centerpiece of the Turner and Scherzer deal with the Dodgers and will now get a chance to show whether that deal was worth it. He has been fantastic in AAA, hitting .311/.381/.631 with 16 home runs in 231 plate appearances. With the lack of depth at the catcher position, he is an instant top 20 player at the position the rest of the way into next season.

DJ Peters went 3-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Astros.

Peters has struggled since coming over from the Dodgers, but has shown his tremendous power with five home runs. The Rangers have given him the third most plate appearances on the team since acquiring him, showing how much they think of him. If he can get his contact numbers up, he could be a rally nice power source rest of the way.

Dylan Cease threw six innings versus the Cubs, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks while striking out 11.

Cease has been fantastic since the All Star Break, posting a 3.13 ERA with 61 strikeouts in 46 innings. Cease now has seven double digit strikeout games this season which is tied for second most in baseball. He is quietly becoming an ace.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Bailey Ober at DET

Ober has been good recently and this is a decent matchup. I am willing to role with in at the beginning of a 2-start.

High Risk Options: Tyler Gilbert vs SD, Tyler Alexander vs MIN

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Edward Cabrera at NYM

Cabrera was impressive in his first start so I am rolling him out there for a matchup versus the disappointing Mets.

High Risk Options: Mike Minor vs CLE, Miles Mikolas at CIN

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
