Roto Riteup: August 21, 2018

If slow-pitch softball has taught me anything, a hit is a hit.

On the Agenda:
1. Closer Chaos!
2. Various News and Notes
3. Streaming Pitchers

Closer Chaos!
Kenley Jansen returned from the disabled list on Monday after spending the minimum on the DL with an irregular heartbeat. Jansen wasn’t at his best in his return, giving up consecutive home runs against the Cardinals. It is good to see Jansen back on the mound, so hopefully this was just a bit of rust or nerves.

A.J. Minter was unavailable to pitch the ninth inning for the Braves for the second night in a row. Minter has been dealing with some back tightness, but the Braves don’t seem too concerned as of yet. Dan Winkler has filled in both opportunities, so he is the obvious replacement if this turns into something more.

Various News and Notes
According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca, Aaron Sanchez could rejoin the Blue Jays rotation this weekend. Sanchez had his last rehab assignment for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, throwing 4.1 innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks. If the Blue Jays aren’t satisfied with the poor showing, they may decide he needs another before being activated.

Mark Trumbo was placed on the 10-Day DL with knee inflammation. Trumbo has had recurring knee issues most of the season. There is no timetable for his return.

Brandon Nimmo was placed on the 10-Day DL with a finger bruise. The injury occured when he was hit by a pitch last week, but rest has not worked so he will get some extended time off before returning to the Mets outfield. Dominic Smith has been recalled to take Nimmo’s place on the roster.

According to Alex Pavlovic, Dereck Rodriguez will be activated from the DL on Friday. Rodriguez has been fantastic for the Giants this year, throwing 73.2 innings as a starter with a 2.32 ERA and an almost 20% strikeout rate. He will matchup against the Rangers at home.

Streaming Pitchers Options
A pitcher for today: None
Hail Mary Option: Brett Anderson vs TEX. Anderson has been good in his return, but it is only a matter of time before the regression monster or injury monster comes back.

A pitcher for tomorrow: None
Hail Mary Option: Mike Minor @OAK. The A’s have been super hot, so this is truly a Hail Mary, but over his last four starts, Minor has a 3.42 ERA with about 9 strikeouts per nine innings.

Didn’t take long to prove again that he has no place on a major league roster. There must be at least a replacement level player somewhere in the Mets organization.
