Roto Riteup: August 20, 2018

Starting my diet this week, so I had to binge a bit this weekend:

On the Agenda:
1. Promotions!
2. Various News and Notes
3. Streaming Pitchers

Promotions!
Stephen Gonsalves is expected to be called up to make his Major League debut today for the Twins. Gonsalves has thrown 100.1 innings this year for Rochester this year with a sub-3 ERA and almost a strikeout an inning. He can struggle with giving away free passes, but limits damage from homers. He is never going to be a top tier pitcher in fantasy, but an interesting back of the rotation starter.

Michael Kopech will make his Major League debut for the White Sox on Tuesday. Kopech is the top pitching prospect in baseball and has been fantastic as off late only allowing two earned runs in his last 44 innings in AAA and none in his last 22 innings pitched.

Various News and Notes

Marcus Stroman has been placed on the 10-Day DL with a blister. The issue does not seem to be serious, so he is expected to be back after a minimum stay. That being said, we have seen over the last few years that these blister issues can reoccur and considering Stroman’s struggles this season, especially with the defense behind him, there is no shame in cutting him loose.

Ervin Santana was placed on the 10-Day DL with a finger injury. Santana is suffering recurring symptoms from the injury that sidelined him before the season. While there is a chance he could return this year, it seems unlikely that he pitches again this season.

Luke Weaver has been demoted to the bullpen according to multiple sources. Weaver hasn’t been awful lately, but he has struggled to go deep in games, which has taxed the Cardinals bullpen. A move out of the rotation should allow his stuff to play up and this shouldn’t change his long term outlook. Daniel Poncedeleon will move into the rotation for the Cardinals.

Yu Darvish left his rehab start in low-A after only one inning. Darvish was expected to throw three innings, but will now undergo an MRI on his elbow. Darvish should be dropped in most formats.

Didi Gregorius left Sunday’s game after a collision with Blue Jays first baseman Kendrys Morales. Gregorius attempted to play through the pain, but was ultimately lifted from the game. He was diagnosed with a bruised heel, but the level of bruising is “significant” according to manager Aaron Boone, so this looks like it’ll end him up on the DL.

Streaming Pitchers Options
A pitcher for today: Derek Holland vs NYM
Holland has been surprisingly good this year and gets a bad Mets team that is worse versus lefties.

A pitcher for tomorrow: None
Hail Mary Option: Brett Anderson vs TEX. Anderson has been good in his return, but it is only a matter of time before the regression monster or injury monster comes back.
