COVID Issues

Ryan Yarbrough is expected to be activated from the COVID IL on Wednesday. He is expected to follow an opener and be the bulk pitcher against the Orioles.

Quick Hits

Dylan Carlson was placed on the IL with a wrist sprain. This is a bummer because Carlson has played well this year. Depending on the severity, this could potentially end his season which makes him droppable in redraft formats.

George Springer was placed on the IL with a knee sprain. Springer has been extremely disappointing with all the injuries this year. He is droppable in most formats at this point but I would wait to see what the timetable is.

Chris Bassitt left Tuesday’s game after being hit in the head with a comebacker.

According to manager Bob Melvin, Bassitt was conscious the entire time and was doing well at the hospital after the game. He will likely hit the IL, but it is too early to tell if he will be able to return this season.

Various News and Notes

Huascar Ynoa threw 5.1 innings scoreless versus the Marlins, allowing three hits and a walk in the no-decision.

Ynoa threw virtually all fastballs and sliders, but was very good in spite of his velocity not being all the way back yet. At some point he will need to figure out a third pitch, but he should be able to continue to make it work for this season like he did prior to breaking his hand and should be picked up in all formats.

Daniel Lynch threw seven innings in the victory over the Astros, allowing just one run on four hits and three walks while striking out five.

Lynch still struggles with his control at times, but since returning from the minors after the All Star Break, he has thrown 30.2 innings with a 2.35 ERA and 24 strikeouts. The future is bright for him and he could be an interesting sleeper heading into 2022 depending on how he finishes out the season.

Luis Gil threw 4.2 scoreless innings against the Red Sox, allowing three hits and four walks while striking out four.

Gil has good stuff, but he is a prototypical two-pitch pitcher. I do worry that if he does not add a third pitch, there will be massive struggles down the road, especially with the walks. That being said, the Yankees do not have a ton of depth in the rotation and he should find himself back in it at some point soon.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Ranger Suarez at ARI

Suarez has been going deeper into games so I am hoping this is the start he can go at least five. It is a great matchup too.

High Risk Options: Mike Foltynewicz vs SEA, Jesus Luzardo vs ATL.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: None

Not a lot of great options in a short slate.

High Risk Options: Zach Thompson at CIN, Matt Manning vs LAA, Spencer Howard vs SEA.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
