Quick Hits
Cooper Pratt was placed on the 10-Day IL with a hamstring strain. Pratt received an MRI, but the results have not been made public. Obviously, he was hurt bad enough that an IL stint was necessary. Ji Hwan Bae was recalled to take his spot on the roster.
Griffin Jax was placed on the IL with elbow discomfort. There is no timetable for his return, but these typically don’t end well. Michael Grove was recalled to take his spot on the roster.
Austin Hays signed a one-year deal with the Padres. He is expected to be on the short-side of a platoon with Gavin Sheets.
Kyle Stowers left Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury.
Consider him day-to-day for now.
Various News and Notes
Sean Manaea threw seven innings against the Pirates, allowing one run on three hits and no walks while striking out seven in the victory on Sunday.
Manaea was fantastic in the outing, posting a 41% CSW overall and getting a 39% whiff rate on his sweeper. He has been great over his last four starts and his next start versus the Nationals.
Griffin Conine went 2-for-4 with two home runs in the victory over the Angels on Sunday.
Conine has been great in his time in the Majors, hitting 12 home runs and stealing two bases with a .265/.349/.544 triple slash. Conine has been making a lot of hard contact, but does struggle to make consistent contact. His swinging strike rate is 18% and his Z-Contact is 77% which are numbers that indicate a bad hit tool and likely prolonged slumps at some point. Conine is worth using when hot, but this is not going to last unless the hit tool improves.
Troy Melton threw six innings versus the Giants allowing one unearned run on four hits and a walk while striking out five in the no-decision on Sunday.
Melton had a 40% whiff rate on his fastball and mixed all of his pitches well which kept the Giants hitters off-balanced. He has shown good command and control in the Majors this year, but the swing and miss stuff hasn’t been as prominent. This is a good sign that the strikeout stuff will be there as he continues to develop.

Friday is the date teams can call up minor leaguers and still have them eligible for the 2027 ROY. Going to see a lot of new faces starting Friday.
