Closer Chaos
Clayton Beeter was placed on the IL with forearm soreness. This is bad news as these types of injuries often lead to Tommy John surgery. In his absence, the Nationals could turn to Gus Varland or PJ Poulin.
The Angels designated Jordan Romano for Assignment on Sunday. With Kirby Yates still on rehab assignment, the Angels will likely turn to Sam Bachman or Drew Pomeranz until Kirby is back.
Jack Perkins threw two scoreless innings versus the Rangers on Sunday, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out three to register the save.
This was Perkins’ second save of the week and weirdly Joel Kuhnel who had been leading the team in saves came into the game in the fourth inning after J.T. Ginn struggled. This feels like a very frustrating committee.
Quick Hits
Jasson Dominguez is expected to be called up to the Majors to fill in while Giancarlo Stanton is on the IL. Dominguez is a former top prospect that is worth a pickup in deeper formats.
Logan O’Hoppe was placed on the IL with a broken wrist.
There is no timetable for his return, but he is expected to miss an extended period of time.
Various News and Notes
Nathan Church went 2-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Mariners on Sunday.
Church hit three home runs over the weekend and while he is not for having a ton of power he does have five bombs so far to go along with his three stolen bases. He is playing regularly versus righties right now and they are facing six righties this week making him at worst a good stream for this week.
Chase Dollander threw seven scoreless innings on five hits and two walks while striking out seven in the victory over the Mets on Sunday.
Dollander got 13 whiffs on the day and his breaking stuff was very impressive. The talent has been there for the former top prospect, but the question remains on if he can master one of the toughest places to pitch in at home in Colorado.
Foster Griffin threw seven scoreless innings versus the White Sox, allowing just two hits and two walks in the victory on Sunday.
Griffin was great, mixing and matching well while getting a 50% CSW on the sweeper and a 33% CSW overall. Griffin doesn’t have overwhelming stuff, but he does have good command and a full arsenal of pitches he can use to keep hitters off-balanced.

Pitcher for Today: Connor Prielipp vs SEA
Short slate without a ton of options, but Prielipp has nice stuff and a decent matchup.
Other Options: Steven Matz at CLE.
Pitcher for Tomorrow: Nick Martinez at CLE
Martinez is pitching well so far and has a nice matchup versus a Cleveland offense that is 24th in OPS versus righties.
Other Options: Peter Lambert vs BAL, Davis Martin vs LAA.
