Roto Riteup: April 27, 2017

Today’s Roto Riteup would like to remind everyone that even on a slow news day, baseball is a gift:

On the Agenda:
1. Gift Ngoepe

2. Various News and Notes

Gift Ngoepe

This blurb has nothing really to do with fantasy advice. I personally just wanted to acknowledge that Gift Ngoepe was called up and received his first MLB hit in his first at-bat. Ngoepe became the first ever African born player to reach the Major Leagues. He does not have fantasy value as he will most likely not be fantasy relevant, but this is a cool reflection of how the game we love is growing.

It also signifies my most trolled day of 2017 as I received great tweets like this:

Various News and Notes
Felix Hernandez was placed on the DL on Wednesday with shoulder fatigue. The Mariners also placed Mitch Haniger on the DL with a strained oblique. King Felix is expected to miss 2-3 weeks with the injury, while Haniger will likely miss 3-4 weeks. At the time of this writing, Hernandez’s official diagnosis has yet to be announced, but the fact they expect him to be out longer than the minimum is concerning. The loss of Haniger will open up more playing time for Taylor Motter, who continues to ignore my pleas to be followed on twitter, and Danny Valencia in the meantime.

Eric Thames was pulled from Wednesday’s game with hamstring tightness. This was a scary moment for fantasy owners considering Thames has been hotter than the sun, but it appears he has avoided serious injury. He is considered day-to-day at the moment.

Kod Glover was placed on the DL with a hip impingement. Glover said he felt the injury crop up during his outing on Tuesday. This news will be welcome to some in the fantasy world as Shawn Kelley will no longer have to share 9th inning duties for the near future.

Sean Manaea was removed from his start on Wednesday with shoulder tightness. Manaea struggled early on in this start and was without his usual velocity. This may turn out to be nothing and after the game Manaea stated he was not worried and this was something he had dealt with prior. Fantasy owners will want to monitor this situation.

Michael Morse was called up from AAA and delivered a game-tying home run for the Giants.

I missed you buddy.
