The Future is Now

According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, the Braves are calling up Ronald Acuna. Acuna is the top prospect in baseball and has drawn amazingly strong comparisons. He struggled to start the year in AAA, but has recently begun to turn things around and the Braves are done playing the service time game. Acuna has a ton of upside, but not every prospect translates right away, so this may be a time to sell or hold, but don’t try to buy.

Various News and Notes

Adrian Beltre left Tuesday’s game with hamstring injury. The Rangers are calling it a strain and he will undergo further testing on Wednesday, but this looks like he will probably hit the DL. The Rangers are dealing with a ton of injuries in the infield and this will likely open up more playing time for guys like Ronald Guzman. Let’s hope any absence isn’t lengthy because baseball is better with Beltre:

Blake Treinen left Tuesday’s game after taking a comebacker off of his leg. After the game, it was reported he suffered a shin bruise, which means he avoided serious injury. Santiago Casilla seems like the short term replacement if he misses a couple of games. Casilla came in and finished off the game after Treinen left.

According to Craig Mish, Wei-Yin Chen will make his season debut this weekend versus the Rockies. Chen has only threw 33 innings in the Majors last year due to injury, but has reportedly looked good in his rehab assignment. He isn’t worth a roster spot in mixed leagues yet, but keep an eye on him.

Ian Kennedy was forced out of Tuesday’s start after being hit in the foot with a line drive. He was later seen in a walking boot and he appears to be doubtful for his next start. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Eric Thames left Tuesday’s game with a thumb injury. After the game, manager Craig Counsell expressed some concern over the injury. He will undergo further testing, but this sounds like a DL trip at the least.
