Roto Riteup: April 24, 2024

This is one of the craziest things I have seen in a while:

On the Agenda:

  1. Quick Hits
  2. Various News and Notes
  3. Streaming Pitchers

Quick Hits

Kyle Hendricks was placed on the IL with a back issue. There is no timetable for his return. Hayden Wesneski was recalled from AAA to take his spot on the roster.

Merrill Kelly 켈리 was placed on the IL with a shoulder strain. He is expected to miss about a month.

Kyle Nelson was placed on the IL with shoulder inflammation. There is no timetable for his return.

Lane Thomas left Tuesday’s game with a knee injury. He is expected to undergo further testing on today. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Willson Contreras left Tuesday’s game with a hand issue. It doesn’t sound overly serious, so consider him day-to-day at this time.

Cody Bellinger left Tuesday’s game after running into the outfield wall. Bellinger was diagnosed with a rib contusion and x-rays were negative. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Kevin Kiermaier left Tuesday’s game with a hip issue. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes

Riley Greene went 2-for-3 with two home runs in the victory over the Rays on Tuesday.

Greene has been decent this year, but the power hadn’t been truly apparent until this one. Greene is a former top prospect that doesn’t necessarily have a carrying tool for fantasy, but he has led off in every game he has started over the last 11 days and and while the .247 average isn’t great, he does have a .402 on base percentage and he now has a .259 ISO which is very intriguing.

Erick Fedde 페디 threw six innings on Tuesday versus the Twins, allowing one earned run on three hits and no walks while striking out 11 in the no-decision.

Fedde was fantastic in this one, getting a 47% CSW on his sinker and a 42% whiff rate on his splitter. Fedde spent the last year in the KBO and he made some changes, but looked mostly pedestrian in his first four starts, but this is what some people have been waiting for. If Fedde can keep the walks in check, he can have some good value in fantasy, but pitching for the White Sox lowers his ceiling.

Trevor Larnach went 2-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the White Sox on Tuesday.

Larnach was called up when Matt Wallner was sent down and has played really well, hitting .350/.417/.750 with two home runs in 24 plate appearances. There was some thought that when Max Kepler returned, Larnach would go back to the minors, but he is still up and producing. Larnach is a former top prospect and could end up being a nice post hype breakout if he continues to get opportunities.

Mike Tauchman went 2-for-3 with two home runs in the victory over the Astros on Tuesday.

Tuachman has quietly been really good when he is in the lineup, hitting .283/.397/.491 with those two home runs and 13 runs scored. He is striking out just 17.5% of the time and walking at a 16% clip. He is on the strong side of the platoon for the Cubs, but in deeper leagues, he has value because of his good approach and ability to hit, walk and swipe a few bags.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: None

A fair amount of good high risk options, but none that I feel overly confident in.

High Risk Options: Yariel Rodriguez at KC, Alec Marsh vs TOR, Jameson Taillon vs HOU, Matt Waldron at COL, Landon Knack at WAS.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: None

Not many good lower rostered options.

High Risk Options: Randy Vasquez at COL, Andrew Heaney vs SEA

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
