Quick Hits

Lenyn Sosa was traded to the Blue Jays for Jordan Rich on Monday. Sosa was stuck in a reserve role in Chicago and is now heading for another one in Toronto. He will provide depth in the infield but could see some DH at bats with George Springer on the IL.

The Reds traded Christian Encarnacion-Strand to the Orioles for cash on Monday. CES had been designated for assignment and with the Orioles losing Ryan Mountcastle for a while, it’s not surprising to see them taking a shot on him. He will begin in AAA, but there is a path to the Majors if he can recapture his earlier promise as a slugging prospect.

Jeremy Pena was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain. There is no timetable for his return. Shay Whitcomb was recalled to take his spot on the roster.

Various News and Notes

Jeremiah Jackson went 3-for-4 with two home runs in the victory over the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Jackson has started out hot, hitting .318/.326/8545 with three home runs. He has yet to draw a walk or steal a base, but he is playing regularly at second base with Jackson Holliday out for a while. He has a hyper-aggressive approach that will come back to bite him at some point, but for now, he has value in deeper leagues where volume is important.

Ryan Jeffers went 3-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Red Sox on Monday.

Jeffers is hitting .317/.440/.512 with two home runs. He is splitting time with Victor Caratini, but he has value in two catcher leagues because he will play more than 50% of the time.

Angel Martinez went 2-for-5 with a home run in the victory over the Cardinals on Monday.

Martinez has been fantastic so far, hitting .319/.385/.511 with two home runs and four stolen bases. He is hitting the ball harder this season, but he is not much of a power threat. He has a good hit tool, but he is too aggressive at times and can swing too much outside of the zone. There will be ups and downs because of the approach but the Guardians like him and there is 15/15 upside here.

Trent Grisham went 2-for-3 with two home runs in the victory over the Angels on Monday.

Grisham wasn’t even starting in his game as the Yankees were facing a left in Yusei Kikuchi, but he entered as a pinch hitter and then just crushed the Angel’s bullpen. Grisham had struggled to start the year, but had been unlucky. This may be the start of a hot streak.

Justin Wrobleski threw eight scoreless innings versus the Mets allowing two hits and no walks while striking out two in the victory on Monday.

Wrobelski wasn’t overpowering, but did a good job of keeping the Mets offense off-balanced in spite of mostly being fastball/slider the entire game. He only has six strikeouts in 17 innings this season, but because he is on the Dodgers, he has two wins in two starts. With the state of the Dodgers rotation, he should be getting a turn every six games so he is worth rostering just for the win upside.

As far as the Nats being a team to stream against, as of today the Dodgers and Astros lead MLB having both scored 95 runs. Washington has scored 94 runs, and also fourth overall in team OPS.
