Paul Sporer: That’s a fair trade. He’s a power monster for sure. My biggest fear was the Ks leading to a shitty AVG and that’s played out, but I think he can evolve on that in the futre

Brendan C. : Do you fully expect Kershaw to return this year? Is it worth selling low on him?

Paul Sporer: I mean, I have a hard time saying I FULLY expect it. It really depends how low, but I’m not completely averse to trading him. Latest is that he WON’T need surgery so that’s good. I think he’s still top 5, but he’s off my #1 perch right now

Snowflake: Who would you rather have for the next two years, Ian Desmond or Trevor Story? Yeah, Desmond might never be a SS again, but he’s been so good.

Paul Sporer: I love Desmond, but I’ll take the Coors SS who is just 23. Even with the boatload of Ks

Paul K: Do you think TB-LAD’s deal is based around Puig and Archer?

Paul Sporer: I can definitely see that. Even at his highest, Puig is making less than $10 mil so it’s a chance at a superstar without superstar prices for TB

Heathcliff Slocumb: Eno talked about buying low on Eickhoff in deeper leagues. I traded for him and shipped out Estevez and Kelley in my dynasty league as I needed to consolidate some roster spots with a few DL guys coming back. OK in your book?

Paul Sporer: Definitely

Paul Sporer: Grandal is raking of late, isn’t he? I’d try something else. Never a good idea to purposely take a full on zero

Paul Sporer: No probably not. It was a wrist which can hamper power even when back. I’m eyeing ’17 for AA

Paul Sporer: No and No; Price hasn’t been Price proper this year and I’m done guessing on Bregman’s call up

RE2PECT: Trying to shop Kershaw in a 12 team redraft. What sort of return could I ask for? Assuming my opponent’s a gambling man, could I package Kershaw and Samardizja and ask for a guy like Correa? He needs pitching.

Paul Sporer: That could work as long as your trade partner has seen the news that he won’t need surgery

Mike: Rival executive saying there’s a “70% Archer goes to the Dodgers”. How much does his value increase with a move to the NL West?

Paul Sporer: Some, but you never know how a midseason trade will suit a player. I would obviously go hard for him in NL onlys if he comes over just bc the chance for excellence is there, but I’m not EXPECTING it

Gest: I know it’s tough to predict, but do you think Snell will use his slider more after seeing its success in Colorado? Much like Fulmer’s increased confidence in his changeup?

Paul Sporer: That’s REALLY tough to answer, especially slider is a more taxing pitch so he might not necessarily be allowed to just lean on it. I need to check that Coors start

Snowflake: Which one are you dropping? Maybin, Gardner or Pederson?

Paul Sporer: Maybe this was the song on Guitar Hero

Paul Sporer: Dropping Joc unless you’re power starved. The Maybin/Gardner speed is much more rare

Paul Sporer: I prefer Yelly, but it’s a fair deal if needs align

Paul Sporer: Solid move. I don’t think there’s a clear winner. Keep in mind, if you’re helping your team, it doesn’t matter who *wins* the trade

PS: Worthwhile to deal DJ Lemahieu in a 16 team if I’m able to slot in Trea Turner? I could use 1B or OF help– what return should I shoot for?

Paul Sporer: Ya he’s been a pretty empty batting average. You should shoot for something to help your team. It’s really an impossible question to answer as is because there are so many variables, especially at this point in the season.

Paul Sporer: If you’re looking to deal someone, I can’t tell you what you should get. Your league’s market will determine that. If you want to include a name you’re shooting for, I can help that way and give you an idea if it’s OK, but even that isn’t surefire. Focus on your needs and see where you can improve by dealing someone.

fresh basil: Assuming Zunino gets 150 more ABs, I should expect about 30 HRs right?

N.W.enO: Dude…the struggle is fo’ real. You comfortable starting Shields against Rock City today?

Paul Sporer: He has settled in a bit: 2.43 ERA in his last five starts, though a meager 15/11 K:BB in the 33.3 IP. He just couldn’t be as bad as we were seeing unless he was hurt, so while I’m not exactly interested in him, I’m not TOO surprised that he got on track a bit. He can be a 4.30ish ERA the rest of the way which will include some good starts

Michael: 12 team keeper league: currently, have my utility spot split between carlos santana and marcell ozuna. have an opporunity to grab votto in exchange for a 5th round draft slot next year. is he enough of an upgrade over the other 2 to justify giving up this pick?

Paul Sporer: As much as I love Votto, no. Ozuna has been awesome and Santana’s been really good, too. I think you’re piecing it together nicely

Minty: If the Rangers don’t trade Gallo does he stay down until rosters expand? What if traded?

Paul Sporer: I think he gets moved. They’re going to be very active at the deadline (IMO). The Prince news adds a wrinkle for Gallo, but they want to give Profar full-time PAs. Btw, pardon the backpat (you know I take my heat when I get one spectacularly wrong), but I mentioned in a chat a while back that his K% improvement was suspect over such a short sample. He’s at 30% on the season now.

Deez: Need league management advice: Our 10 tm AL only currently has a no limit on keepers ($3 increase out of $260 draft budget) and everyone votes for one player to move off each team. Last 5 years, same people at top and at bottom, what competitive balance measures should we put in place?

Paul Sporer: Increase the escalator or place limits on the number of keepers. Seems the best teams are probably just continually stockpiling the most talent and consistently winning

Harry Caray’s Ghost: Sanchez is going to get shut down soon, and who knows when Upton is going to start hitting again. If I package them together and ship them to a non-contender in my keep-forever league, what range of SP should I be able to land? Not Arrieta or Scherzer certainly….but the next tier down from that, maybe someone like Carassco/Cueto/Lester?

Paul Sporer: I’d be OK actually shooting for that highest end, but ya I think the next tier should get done if they balk at a top 7 guy

Paul Sporer: Not a bad gamble, but definitely a gamble for what I hope are obvious reasons

fresh basil: Should I stash Rosenthal off waivers in a 14 team keeper?

Jimmy: Recently traded my Bogaerts, Osuna, and Saunders for Scherzer and Russell in 12 team standard h2h. Felt my offense was still in great shape without X when I have guys like Donaldson, Betts, Votto in the mix and I desperately needed pitching help after getting buried in every category recently. Thoughts?

Paul Sporer: I can get behind that for sure. You went and got your ace. If you’re buried, you’ll probably need more in addition to Max, but he’s a great start to fixing the pitching

Maxamuz: Gonna be hard to trade Puig now with that messed up Hammy

Paul Sporer: yeah, I actually JUST saw that. But TB isn’t focused on ’16

Paul Sporer: Ya on paper you lose this, but this is why I said the thing about focusing on needs. I’m actually OK with it in the context of your league and needs. You need a rabbit and Marte has 33 SBs!

Rick: Which of these shortstops ROS; Jose Ramirez, Espinosa, Didi…or Wilmer?

Paul Sporer: I’ll take Didi

Patrick in KC: what are you expecting from Skaggs upon his return next week?

Paul Sporer: Not much, tbh. I just don’t get hyped on TJ returners in that first year back

Paul Sporer: I like Skaggs overall and I’ll be interested in him next year. I think we could see some solid starts, but the hiccups will probably hurt more than the good stuff helps

Billy: Bryce Harper is killing my team.

Paul Sporer: Through this time last year, he had 7 more HR, 10 more RBIs , 12 more Rs, 10 fewer SBs and a vastly better AVG. I doubt that alone is killing your team, tbh

Paul Sporer: Duvall, Naq (gotta ride it out), Maz, and I’ll say Dahl bc he could come up after the deadline so go with him until like Aug 7th or so to see what happens

Kevin: Thoughts on Jean Segura? Is this a fluke, or could he be keeper-worthy?

Paul Sporer: it’s a bit BABIP influenced. there’s some added punch, but it isn’t some crazy breakout

Joe D: Would you trade tanaka for archer in a dynasty league?

Paul Sporer: No

Jack Bauer: What should I do with Brantley? AL only, would cost me $29 out of $260 to keep. Any chance for him to come back this year? Worth keeping into next?

Paul Sporer: No chance of keeping regardless so just ride it out and see if he comes back unless someone offers you something to help this year’s team

Tyler: Thoughts on the return of Dee Gordon? Can we expect his return to the top of the lineup and will he steal bases like the past? Thank you!

Paul Sporer: Yeah, i don’t see any reason to expect his game to change. he might be a little rusty, but the skills should be the same

Jason : 12 team H2H dynasty “keep forever” league with 40 man rosters – gearing up for a playoff run…I have an offer where I trade Brantley/Carrasco/Alfaro for Hamels/Braun Which side would you want?

Paul Sporer: Yeah, that works. Prefer Carrasco, but Hamels hardly a bad replacement and then you get a big bat for 2 guys not helping you

Nathan: Traded for Bryce and dropped Justin Turner on June 12th because I needed HR/RBI. It’s not working out well. Turner was picked up by the guy I got Harper from.

Paul Sporer: LOL. Like a 5. This power surge is crazy, but I can’t get TOOOO nuts on it

Paul Sporer: the 3 aren’t too far overall, so I’ll just go with the cheapest tbh

Paul Sporer: I can see him staying up, but he’s just an SB asset. Which is fine because they are so scarce

MJ: Thoughts on Stroman ROS? He’s still limiting walks and his HR/FB% should regress (currently at around 18%) indicating he’s been unlucky on balls in play… think he can post a mid-low 3’s ERA ROS?

Paul Sporer: He couuuuulllllddd, but I see more upper-3s

Drew: I’m 15/16 in a dynasty league (R, HR, SB, RBI, OPS//W, K, ERA, WHIP, Net SV/H). Was offered Conforto, Vince Velasquez, and Nick Williams for Stanton. Thoughts?

Paul Sporer: Do it

Oliver: Better ROS: Conforto Joc or Shaw? Can any of them be top 120 material? (12 team 10 player keeper league – OBP)

Paul Sporer: I’ll go Shaw. Any of the 3 could surge up to 120 material, but they aren’t keepers in your setup

Billy Hamilton: What are the odds of me batting .250 and leading the league in SB rest of season?

Paul Sporer: 38%? the .250 is always a struggle, but he’s still running a good bit

Kevin: Have very little speed anywhere on my roster in a 14-team, keep-15 Roto league. I recently acquired Segura and planned on keeping him as my UT (I have Odor and C. Seager at 2B/SS). But I have the chance to trade a first round pick to get Votto, who would be slotted at UT (Freeman at 1B). Should I make the deal based on value and then work it out later?

Paul Sporer: I’d say no. At this point, you need to focus on the standings and how you can win. Votto forces another move for you that you may not be able to get done. Unless you think you can setup another trade with Freeman before the Votto to get another burner

bob: Trying to consolidate in a dynasty league. A. Sanchez, L. McCullers, O. Arcia, and Segura a fair offer for Bryant?

Paul Sporer: Yeah that seems pretty fair, perhaps even a touch high? I don’t play any pure dynasties so maybe it’s not

Paul Sporer: Dahl because of Coors
