Steve: Got caught price enforcing on Rendon and now have 3 3b in Arenado, J Turner, and Rendon. I can start all three but could use Lf help. Trade Turner for Mazara and Quintana? League really emphasizes offense with OBP/SLG and QS/HLD/SV.

Paul Sporer: No, not necessarily. I’m not much for the “guess who’s going to get traded” game. Cargo might be the only concern, but I also don’t think he’d fall apart outside of Coors

Tom Tango: Can Cub fans be any more sensitive after just winning the World Series? Saw your “dispute” with some of them over the Show rankings last night, laughing listening to their perceptions!

Paul Sporer: It was literally ONLY Cubs fans who responded to those, stanning for every Cub they thought was robbed. I knew Cubs fans at large (this isn’t a dig at every single one of you) would become as insufferable as Red Sox fans AS SOON AS THEY WON. It was the easiest call ever. Vegas had it at -5000.

Paul Sporer: I don’t think he’s going to be a fantasy beast this year, but you have to keep him for the next three bc the talent is great and he can certainly develop into a big fantasy asset

Tim: Ryu has looked pretty good so far. Think he makes a nice late-round flyer?

Paul Sporer: Definitely. Really hope he can stay health

Clarkers at the Bat: Is it better to keep small dollar regulars in an 11team NL Only league, or better quality players at higher prices. for example, Drury at $1, vs Lamb at $14.

Paul Sporer: I think people keep too many $1 guys just BECAUSE they are $1. Your example would NOT be such a case, but I’m speaking generally. Torn on your example bc I really like both. Can’t keep both?!

Mark: You have picks 2 and 4 overall, who are you taking and why?

Paul Sporer: 2 of Arenado, Altuve, Goldschmidt, Bryant… because I want to win. I take Arenado at 2 after Trout and assume Betts goes 3, but he’s obv part of the list if he doesn’t

Dave Kingman: Feeling nervous about Seager’s back issue and having him as a keeper. Should I be worried?

Paul Sporer: Understandable to be nervous, but not much you can do. You still have to keep him in just about any case.

NotSeeTV: i thought u handled yourself exceptionally well the other day when DP was trolling/trying to goad you on twitter. Is this a common thing, people wanting to beat the ‘expert’? Do you think people would still be this aggressive if you guys were referred to as ‘analysts’ rather than ‘experts’? Finally, what do you think of NFBC style drafts?

Paul Sporer: Apparently he has a history of it. I like NFBC leagues a lot, I wish I could afford to do more of them. Maybe it makes me some kind serf, but $300 is a pretty decent sum to me. I already play in a league with that entry fee and he’s acting like I should be in multiple $150-300 NFBC leagues.

Scooby: Thanks for the chat, Paul. Thoughts on Brandon Kintzler as a closer? Who’s the Nats closer? Any other fringe candidates for saves early on for those of us who let others spend draft picks on the more solid guys?

Paul Sporer: Don’t like Kintzler much, but he should get the first chance and Glen Perkins can’t stay healthy. Thought my dude Trevor May would take the role, but then he was starting and looking sharp before going down with TJ. So Kintzler could hold up due to lack of viable options. Kelley should start closing in WAS, folks speculating on Blake Treinen and Koda Glover, though

Joe: Is Joe Ross or Jon Gray droppable for Shoemaker or Eichoff?

keepers due today!: Hey paul. Panicking about keepers. 5X5 standard 12 man league ($300 at auction). I have 2 spots left (already keeping betts, villar and story). Do i keep $10 odor, $,7 turner, $20 arrieta, or $23 verlander. Which 2 (leaning odor/arrieta)? Orrrrrrr do i deal odor for $12 darvish and buxton (who wouldn’t count as a keeper). or do i deal odor for $22 blackmon? i know that’s a lot but what can i say? I’m paralyzed by fear and can’t decide.

Paul Sporer: Not sure which Turner, but I’d keep either at $7 so that’s OK. I think I’d do the Odor trade that gets a free Buxton so Turner and Yu.

Paul Sporer: Not bad, feel like person getting Dahl could get a sweetner bc of his injury, but I get that it’s a different calculus in dynasty

South Carolina Steve: So how high would you draft DJ Lemahieu in a 5×5 league with OBP, 1B, 2B, 3B, added. I used the auction calculator and nearly all the projections have him as a top 25 player with those league settings. Would I be crazy drafting him before Springer?

Paul Sporer: No, it wouldn’t be crazy. Seems that kinda system would favor him nicely

Paul Sporer: I think it’s viable. Trea is obviously the centerpiece. It works both ways, IMO

RAGS: In a keeper league where inflation is nearly 40%, how high above a player’s actual value are you willing to keep someone? Would you overpay 10% to keep someone? Or let them go back into the pool for someone else to overpay? Or does it entirely depend on who’s likely to be available?

Paul Sporer: It’s the last part, tbh. Depends what the market will have supply-wise. But I’m not afraid to keep someone 15-20% over “normal” value if there’s 40% inflation

Paul Sporer: I hate spending in-season resources on closers, so I generally linger toward to the top of the pool. In other words, yes.

Jay: You bumping Carrasco down with his swollen elbow? I’m stuck between chancing it with him or playing it safe with T. Frazier or even Quintana as my 8th keeper (12 team H2H).

Don’t be dumb and take like Dylan Bundy in the 2nd round bc you love him, but if it’s got a 20th rd ADP and you like him best in the 16th, take him, bc it only takes one other competitor to merk you and cost you your breakout player

Paul Sporer: Not so much this year’s Hendricks, but I like his skills for sure. I’m taking the flier.

Emma : Sorry, pitching is Quintana/Gausman/Roark/Sonny Gray/Nola/Urias, RP are Betances, Dyson, Barraclough, Diaz. Did i do okay?

Paul Sporer: The RPs should cover your SP Ks deficiency, but you’re going to need to stay active on the wire. Gray has me worried, Nola has healthy risk, and Urias won’t pitch all year. It’s a workable foundation for sure.

Brian: In a deep keeper what to make of Almora? Looks to be a 450 PA at least guy. Him or Bundy? (20 team keep 11)

Paul Sporer: Prefer Bundy, but Almora’s defense will get him burn. Not sure it’s 450 PA, though

jack : Your big on drury – would you take him over Thames in a points league

Paul Sporer: Ya, I would

JD: What do you think of Maeda in a keeper league? Have we already seen his best?

Paul Sporer: I like Madea a good bit, tbh. I think he can stay strong another couple years. Would take Taillon in the long-term, though (re: your other Q about them)

Lupe: any glimmer of upside w/ Luis Perdomo?

Paul Sporer: Ya, I think so actually! Solid velo, 3 pitches, and opportunity

Dave: Any chance Tanaka can get to 200 Ks this year?

Paul Sporer: Definitely. If he continues to stay healthy, Tanaka is an unquestioned stud. His only has issue has been if the elbow will fully explode. It’s a pretty big issue mind you, but the talent isn’t in question at all

Moltar: Lamb: overcooked (first half) or undercooked (second half)? Or do we get it perfectly medium?

Paul Sporer: Undercooked was bc of a lingering hand injury IMO, so healthy Lamb yields something closer to 1H all year (35+ HR)
