Heathcliff Slocumb: Made moves to acquire underachieving/injured arms in my 12 tm dynasty using depth pieces (Porcello, Cole, Smyly) since no one is letting go of their studs at any cost.  Foolhardy strategy or worth it if even 1 pans out?

Paul Sporer: I think it’s definitely a viable strategy since aces and reliable #2s/#3s are SO expensive

Dr. J: What’s up with Machado? Hidden health issues? Any outperform ROS?

Paul Sporer: Singles aren’t falling, I’m not too concerned

Big Tuna: I’m very high on Godley but was debating trading him for Andrelton since I need MIF help. Will I regret that?

Paul Sporer: I’d be surprised if you regretted it. I like Godley, too, but that’s a good deal

Saxamaphone: I just bought CarGo on the cheap. BB% is up, K% is stable, BABIP is LOW, LD, GB, & FB% is consistent with years past. Only difference seems to be his spray chart & maybe some Hard Hit%. Can we expect better production moving forward?

Paul Sporer: He was only 13-for-23 at the minor league level so they might be cautious with running him while he gets used to MLB pitchers

Paul Sporer: They’re really close for me. I’ll take Archer by a nose

Paul Sporer: For sure, their skills just aren’t commensurate w/the results. Both will be better.

Pat G: I’ve made three trades in my H2H league. Got trout for JD martinez right after the injury, Alonso for Dahl when Alonso had the minislump and got hurt, and just flipped Cozart for Carpenter right before he got hurt….. Am I a Bad Man?

Paul Sporer: No, you’re not a bad man. Love the first two, not sure you win the third.

Paul Sporer: With Dee, it’s always about the SB need. In terms of total value, he’ll like be higher, but I’d lean Castro if I’m not desperate for SBs bc he offers more

John: Devon Travis was my 2B, and after moving him to DL slot, I picked up Chris Taylor. But now I’ve just been offered Pedroia for Jordan Montgomery. Tempted to say yes since I’m worried Travis will be out for months and Taylor may fizzle out. Then again, Montgomery looks like he’s maybe for real. Any advice? Thanks! (12-team mixed 6×6 H2H league.)

Paul Sporer: Maaaan, I really like Montgomery!! I’m trying not to get too hyped on a rookie, but he’s just been so impressive. I understand the concern on Taylor, but I don’t think a regressed version will be all that much worse than Pedroia (if at all), so I’m gonna say hold

Paul Sporer: I’m in for the long haul. The changes are severe and substantial. He’s got power now

Paul Sporer: Very much in on Mazara in the long-term, but 7th rd kinda forces him to do something to payout. I’m kinda meh on that price despite being such a fan of the talent

F Scott Fitz: I’m a long time Chris Davis owner in a dynasty league. Needless to say the last few years have been frustrating. Should I look to move him for a prospect at this point?

Paul Sporer: I’d probably ride it out a bit longer so you’re not selling completely low

Trevor Story: Is this the real me or will go on a crazy hit streak?

Paul Sporer: I think Story heats up. These kinda lows are something we sign up for with a 30%+ K rate guy

Boof: I just added Julio Teheran in a 10-teamer for Adam Wainwright. If you take out his two shelled starts, since May 10, Teheran has a 1.72 ERA. Seems like the turnaround is coming, no?

Paul Sporer: Don’t hate the move, but as for Teheran specifically I just don’t see enough in the base skills to be SUPER excited about a return. Even in those good outings, he’s still not getting Ks, walking too many, and allowing HRs

Guest: Can I bench Polanco for Trumbo/Fowler in a 12-teamer or do I just have to keep running him out there and hope he can put it together?

Paul Sporer: I’m fine with benching

Pie: A league mate has told me he’s more or less throwing in the towel for this season in our 12 team, keep 5 (for up to 4 years) league. Is my Cody Bellinger (will be kept at half-ESPN price next year) for his Carlos Martinez (likely not kept) a fair deal?

Paul Sporer: I think he’ll linger around average rest of this year, but I do think he can be a 115 kind of guy in the future

Paul Sporer: Teheran. Eh, he *could*, but I’d wanna be careful on not overrating his first start w/just 2 BB. He walked 5 per nine in the minors so I see some major blowups in Newcomb’s future, too

John: Think Wilson Ramos will have a better ROS than Lucroy?  This is seeming more and more like one of Lucroy’s unproductive years (beyond BA)…

Paul Sporer: I have a hard time going that far w/Ramos coming off a severe injury, but I understand the Lucroy frustration

Drenjamin: Will Miggy have more power #’s RoS? His hitting profile thus far seems to show he should, but there’s the “playing through injuries” concern

Paul Sporer: Ya the back is a real concern. Wonder if a 2 week stint on the DL would help or if he just has to keep grinding through it. Healthy Miggy would be about 20 HR ROS, so ailing back Miggy is 16-17

Crazy Aunt Marie : Curious how you view this trade. In a keeper I moved Arenado and Stanton for Rizzo and Donaldson. To me Rizzo was a big get as he’s about to be 2nd base eligible. Good move despite the large age gap between Arenado and Donaldson?

Paul Sporer: I get the appeal of Rizzo w/the 2B elig. and that certainly makes it more palatable. I just love Arenado so much that I would’ve had a hard time doing it, but I don’t hate it

Mitch Haniger: Do you think offering me for CarGo can get it done right now?

Paul Sporer: I would hope so, but I don’t think I wanna do that even though I recommend buying low on Cargo. I’m a big Haniger fan so I’d trying something else

JD15: You buyin what Zunnino is selling? I know he’s done it before but he’s a hot bat at a premium position

Paul Sporer: No, never. Or at least not until he shows some discernible skill improvement. As you mentioned, we’ve been here before

Paul Sporer: Hmmm, no I actually kinda like that even though you’re sacrificing for this year. Sure, you’re competing, but not BECAUSE of Arrieta

TheDuck: How does the news that Miggy has been playing through multiple injuries effect your ROS projections for him?

Paul Sporer: I kinda figured he was, tbh, but it speaks to his greatness bc his profile is still intact and suggests he’ll get his numbers. I gotta knock a few HRs off the projection, but he’s still going to be good. This creates a buying opp. IMO

Rich: What’s your must read book or books  for anyone who is really into sabermetrics?

Paul Sporer: Ahead of the Curve by Brian Kenny was really good. Love the Travis Sawchik and Jonah Keri books on PIT and TB, respectively. The Arm isn’t sabermetrics, but it’s amazing

Paul: Got offered Dickerson straight up for Holland. OF currently has Braun, JD, Polanco, Conforto. RPs are Holland, Giles, Rivero, Ottavino, Bedrosian. H2H categories. Paul Sporer: Not really. Low AVG power is freely available everywhere. I’ve been such a big Joc backer in the past, but a lot of that was contingent upon him developing at the plate and bringing his minor lg speed to the majors, neither of which has happened

Love Position Flexibility: Thanks for the chats, Paul. I have Chris Taylor but Brandon Drury is available–do I make that switch? Worried about Taylor slowing down, but also about Drury’s home-road splits

Paul Sporer: I like Drury a lot, I’d favor him

CT: I have Matt Bush as a third, backup CP… drop him for Rosenthal? (Diaz, Knebel are primary)

Paul Sporer: With him being a CP already, you can probably get something, right? Do a 2-for-1 that leaves you an open spot (or 2-for-2 with some shmuck you’ll cut and then get Rosy). If the trade isn’t available, I still don’t hate the move, but I just feel like a closer on a halfway decent tm would net SOMETHING

Paul Sporer: Good question, I’m not entirely sure, but I think it’s like 50-75

Rosewood : Is Carlos Santana dropable? 12 TM, H2H Cat. I have Miggy and Bour but Santana is also OF eligible on a good offense

Paul Sporer: The OF eligibility helps, but OF/1B are the deep positions this yr. I think he gets going, but you seem set without him once Bour returns

Nick: Do you think Matt Strahm could eventually be a #2/3 starter for the Royals? Stuff looks great.

Paul Sporer: WAY down the line, but I do really like his stuff

Paul Sporer: Let’s not confuse overrated and bad, btw. He’s VERY VERY good, but I agree he gets treated as unquestionably elite and I don’t think he’s there
