Paul Sporer: With health, yes. He was someone I scooped late a decent bit this year

mtsw: How much do I need to panic as a Sam Dyson owner in a league where Matt Bush was snapped up by someone else?

Jack: Realistic expectations for Wheeler this season?

Paul Sporer: Eh. 120-130 up and down innings

Andrew: Any hope for Joey Gallo or is ue back to aaa when Beltre is back?

Paul Sporer: I just don’t see anything different with him. He’s a Russell Branyan at best and we have plenty of those these days

Kris: Snell show anything? Or is he going to be a WHIP & K/BB killer again?

Michelle: Thoughts on Matt Harvey’s start last night?

Paul Sporer: Encouraging for sure. Piped a couple to Kemp, who is a great fastball hitter. I’d be pleased if I had him

Oliver: Do you see any potential in Russell Martin this year? Having a tough start. Thinking about dropping him for Leon.

Paul Sporer: No one is having a tough start yet, y’all. I would keep him over Leon for sure.

Paul Sporer: It hasn’t been a week. We’re still in the range where a 3 or even 2 hit game will DRASTICALLY change a guy’s triple slash. Y’all gotta get out of the mindset of thinking a week or two is a tough start. Hell, even three weeks of low .200s can be flipped with back to back good games.

Ken: Hey, Paul! Thanks for chatting. So for some reason I drafted Chen and Andriese with my last few picks. What do they have to do tonight to keep me from dumping them for a sure-to-be-stud on the wire?

Paul Sporer: Depends who is available. I think Chen will be a solid IP eater if healthy. Andriese I’m pretty meh on. Not sure either can show enough in one start to be surefire holds if you’re already considering moving on em, though

Chase: You okay dropping Jeanmar Gomez in a shallow 10-team?

Paul Sporer: Ya

Pat: How long would Moreland have to struggle before the Red Sox look for a replacement? And would Sam Travis be given first crack at the opportunity?

Paul Sporer: Month-6 weeks, I’d iimagine

Paul Sporer: Little ERA backslide, but offset by more Ks and innings. Big fan.

Ted: Thoughts on Fulmer today? Depleted Sox lineup but me likely!

Paul Sporer: Not really on it at all, tbh. Impressive first start, so I’ll keep an eye out, though

Paul Sporer: I’ve spent enough time on the Kyle Gibson train

jack : with Archie Bradley adding the cutter and looking great – will he get morphed into the phelps miller devenski role or closer role ? Worth a stash to see if this is legit in a 12 teamer ?

Paul Sporer: Would like to see him in that expanded role. So dumb that we only seem to have 6 IP or 1 IP guys. He and many others would fit well in between. We seem to be inching toward that again

Rudy: JA Happ was dropped in my league. Did he get hurt or look bad his last start? Wondering why he got dropped.

Paul Sporer: How many teams? Wasn’t he awesome in his first start? Add him

Big Tuna: Fulmer couldn’t seem to command the breaking ball today, but still came out unscathed. What were your thoughts?

Paul Sporer: Ya not perfect, but I was pleased with the outing

BigBopper: AL only, Roto, 12 team w 10 keepers, Auction tomorrow – tons of power available in the auction but not much in speed, what do you think of going after altuve, segura, andrus and then going for cheap power late? I figure those three will help my average, runs, and speed enough than any avg concerns with cheap power guys would be offset

Paul Sporer: I like it. Plus SBs easy to trade down the line

bearproof: traded Holland/ Margot for Pedroia in a 14 teamer h2h….am i going to regret that? Pedroia was an upgrade over O.Arcia at MI.

Bert Campaneris: Are we ever going to see a platform that counts the offensive performance of pitchers? Or is the DH in the NL happening before that?

Paul Sporer: You don’t want that as much as you think do. A few homers aren’t worth the 0-fers

Big Tuna: I seem to always struggle staying under the innings limit in my league. Especially early in the season, how do you decide when to start a fringe guy (Gausman, Samardzjia) and when to run him out?

Paul Sporer: I generally just start my guys and don’t tinker too much early on barring a Coors start or something

Paul Sporer: So if you’re not streaming, you should be fine, then down the line you can decided to dial down or ramp up

Bert Campaneris: Taijuan or Bundy in a shallow 8-team league? Thanks!

Paul Sporer: Still Taijuan for me, but they’re close and both potential game-changers

Sox: The owner of Byron Buxton is already panicking in my AL-only league. Is this the opportune time for me to pounce, or is there reason for concern and I should shy away?

Paul Sporer: I’m not a huge Buxton guy, but if you can get a real discount, it’s worth pursuing

Sugar: Trade Goldy and Sanchez to land Trea, Yu, and Odubel in a 10-teamer? I also have Lucroy, making Sanchez expendable, and this is a one-catcher league. Thanks!

Paul Sporer: Ya that works

Dan: He is the purveyor of the SP Guide (on hiatus for ’17)….. Hiatus means it’s coming back? Why did it go away?

Paul Sporer: Yes. Time. Transitioning to full time at FG required a lot of my offseason time. I should be able to bring it back in ’18

Jim: Should I be worried about Arrieta?

Paul Sporer: I’m down on him by comparison to the market, but his first start was actually a bit encouraging outside of the velo. His stuff was moving nicely.

Big Tuna: I’ve read the recent Fangraphs articles that mention Toles and am intrigued. Should I be buying in a 12 team OPS league?

Paul Sporer: I’m a fan, but 12-teamers probably have someone better to pick up unless you’re using like 7+ reserves

Dave: Does Gerrit Cole ever figure it out? It seems he has all the talent in the world but can’t put it together.

Paul Sporer: Not sure I’d go that far in terms of suggesting he hasn’t put it together. He was hurt last year, but beyond that he has performed. It feels like he can do more, espec. w/the Ks, but 584 IP of a 3.28 ERA is pretty good through age 25

Sloth: Dylan Bundy’s next two starts are @BOS and @TOR, FWIW.

Paul Sporer: Won’t be easy navigating the AL Beast, but we knew that when we invested. Trying to time the right starts will likely end in disaster. In leagues where I drafted him, I’m just playing him

Right now I am platooning Alcides Escobar and Danny Espinosa (yawn). I am willing to trade the ToddFather and AJ Ramos. Who should I target? Villar, Baez, BCrawford, Andrus? Thanks for the help.

Paul Sporer: If you can get Villar, he’s the guy for sure. I’d look at Crawford after that as he’d likely come a little cheaper than the others

Twinkie: Still have hope for Jose Berrios? When should we expect to see him get called back up?

Paul Sporer: Certainly. A couple weeks, especially if h excels at AAA again

cj: how many leagues you in this year? also you have a favorite format?

Paul Sporer: 10! I cut back significantly and I’m loving it. Nearly halved the total. Still love a 15-team mixed draft and any auction

Paul Sporer: I think he’d get a look relatively quickly if they were looking to make a move, unless this Selsky guy jumps up and does something

Paul Sporer: I think your mistake is thinking it’s a simple blister, otherwise it’d have been handled

Paul Sporer: I am, but you can almost certainly sell him for a mint so I’d test those waters, too

Frank: Does Aaron Sanchez have another level or is this pretty much who he is? Still really good, but I wonder how good he could be?

Paul Sporer: He could *maybe* start to get some more swings-and-misses and add to the K%, but that was a pretty excellent season and it’d be tough to expect more

Paul Sporer: I’d go for the unsexy SP. Prefer Conley, but could play matchups w/those 2

Z: Hi Paul – long time listener to Sleeper podcast. my RP situation is Jansen, Davis, Kimbrel, Iglesias, and Diaz, with Rosenthal and Capps on the DL. Someone is interested in Iglesias, and offering Forsythe/WYChen for Iglesias/Rosenthal. Should I trade and pick up a couple more relievers, or stay the course for a couple weeks? (it’s been three games…)
