Ottoneu Power Rankings: August 2017

We are nearing the homestretch in the baseball and ottoneu season, and this will be the last in-season power rankings. The next time power rankings are released, they will be final 2017 results, and I plan on releasing the full team/league standings files for each format at that time as well.

The first ranking I’m going to present shows the top individual teams in all FanGraphs points leagues based on their Pace, which is a metric I calculate by taking each team’s current Pts/G and Pts/IP and multiplying them by their projected games (max of 1,944) and innings (max of 1,500). Also, please note that any teams/leagues from leagues with less than twelve teams are excluded from these rankings.

Note- there are 1,596 FGpts teams across 133 leagues.

Offensive scoring continues to outpace 2016 levels (driven in large part by the HR boom), as FGPts teams average 5.40 Pts/G (up from 5.29 Pts/G in August ’16), but just 4.72 Pts/IP (down from 4.95 Pts/IP in August ’16).

There is a new #1 team in the rankings, as Winnetka Bears rise from #3, and the former #1 RANDAL HANDSHAKE drops to #4.

Up next are the two rotisserie ottoneu formats, starting with the traditional 5×5 leagues. To calculate the top teams, I treated the entire population of teams as one big league, and gave every team points for every category based on where they ranked against every other team.

Any way to find out the “most improved” teams? I took over a last place team that had a little over 12k points last season and have been pacing the league since week 2 this season.
