MASH Report (9/14/15)

Troy Tulowitzki is expected to miss two to three weeks with a cracked shoulder.

Toronto won’t definitively know whether Tulowitzki can make it back for at least another week. His progress will be closely monitored, and not only does the bone have to heal, but some internal bleeding has to subside and the muscles need to recover.

“I think there is a chance,” Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos said Sunday morning. “Just talking to the doctors, they do think it is a little early to try to set a timetable on it.

“We’ll know more in the next few days, but if they had to guess, and it really is only a guess at this point, could be two to three weeks and then he could be back for October. Hopefully we’re playing at that time. That’s really all we have, but we’ll know more as the next few days come along.”

To me, it sounds like they have no clue when he will be back. I went and looked through my injury databases and only found one player who had a fracture in his shoulder. Carlos Gomez missed 37 games in 2011 because of a fractured shoulder.

Yasiel Puig has not been able to perform any baseball activities after injuring his hamstring and may miss the first round of the playoffs.

It’s becoming increasingly obvious that Yasiel Puig’s right hamstring injury is so severe that he might not be able to play again for the remainder of the regular season, placing his availability in doubt for the first round of the postseason.

Puig is rehabbing at the Dodgers’ Camelback Ranch facility in Arizona, but he has yet to embark on baseball activities.

He looks to be droppable in all redraft leagues at this point.

Jonathan Lucroy’s concussion is now worse than originally reported. Currently, he is not able to join the Brewer’s lineup.

After visiting a specialist early Saturday, Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy confirmed what he already felt, as he was diagnosed with a mild concussion.

Lucroy hopes to return to the field at some point this year, but there is no timetable for his recovery. He will have to go through a protocol determined by doctors and Major League Baseball and wait until he is completely medically cleared before rejoining Milwaukee’s lineup.

Yonder Alonso will again miss the end of the season as he deals with lower back issues.

Alonso is on hold at 103 games this season with the Padres announcing Thursday that Alonso will “likely” miss the rest of the season with a stress reaction in his lower back.

Alonso has been out since Sept. 2 with a sore lower back. A bone scan taken earlier this week showed a stress issue in a set bone in a joint in the lower back. Alonso will not accompany the Padres on their nine-game, 11-day trip to San Francisco, Arizona and Colorado.

Drew Storen broke his thumb slamming his locker and is done for the season.

Nick Hundley will miss the rest of the season with a strained neck.

• Rookie surprise Cesar Hernandez dislocated his thumb and his season is done.

Gregor Blanco will miss some time with a concussion.

Colin Rea is being shut down for the season because of soreness in his elbow and forearm.

• So is James Paxton’s.

• And the same with Zach Putnam.

Do you think Tommy Murphy will be anything close to a starter in Colorado in ’16?
