MASH Report (6/26/14)

• Right after I published the MASH Report earlier this week, Andrew Cashner went on the DL for shoulder discomfort.  I look at his pitch data and here is what I found. First, he quit throwing his fastball in the last inning he pitched.

I haven’t read or heard why he stopped. Also, his release spread out quite a from his first start after his first DL stint an his last game.

I like seeing teams make a move after a single game instead of waiting for a pitcher to struggle with mechanics for several games.

Engel Beltre, a speedy outfielder for the Rangers, as begun his minor league rehab assignment. Even before his fractured his tibia this spring, I didn’t give him much of a chance produce this season in my FG+ preview.

Engel Belre will need a lot to go wrong with the Rangers in order to play a major role with his limited skills.

With the injuries the Rangers have sustained this season, he may be worth picking up in AL-only leagues.

• Another possibly available player just starting his minor league rehab is Marco Scutaro. While back injuries are tough to come back 100% from, he may be a play in deeper formats.

Gerrit Cole will start for the Pirates on Saturday.

Alex Guerrero is finally back to playing after having his ear bit off my Miguel Olivo.

Have you seen anything in regards to Yordano Ventura since he came back from his missed start? He seems to be getting solid results, but is striking out less hitters. Is this a result of injury or is this a strategy on his part?
