Lineup Analysis (8/19/22)

American League

Angels

David Fletcher (.766 OPS, 2 HR) has leadoff for nine straight games.

Astros

Trey Mancini has started in six of the last 10 games.

• Centerfield is a rotation of Mauricio Dubón (.591 OPS), Jake Meyers (.567 OPS), and Chas McCormick (.750 OPS).

Athletics

Cal Stevenson (.275/.387/.402 with 5 HR and 15 SB in AAA) has started in seven of the last eight games, all against a righty. He has hit leadoff the last three times he started.

Blue Jays

Whit Merrifield (.631 OPS) has started in only six of the last 10 games.

Santiago Espinal (.704 OPS) has started in seven of the last 10.

Guardians

• Steady except for first base. I’m not sure if Owen Miller is getting some starts over Josh Naylor or if Naylor is just hurt half the time.

Oscar Gonzalez (.785 OPS, 3 HR, 1 SB) is now batting cleanup.

Mariners

Sam Haggerty (.310/.358/.496, 4 HR, 8 HR) has started in 11 of the last 12 games.

Carlos Santana (.532 in the 2H) has only started in five of the last 10 games.

Orioles

Cedric Mullins has not started against the last three righties.

Ramón Urías (.697 OPS, 12 HR) is up to batting fifth in the lineup.

Leody Taveras (.778 OPS) has hit sixth over the last four games.

Rays

Jose Siri (.555 OPS) has started 11 straight in center field but that streak might end with Manuel Margot (.788 OPS, 5 SB) about to come off the IL.

• Over the last seven games, Taylor Walls is hitting .286/.423/.524 and has moved up the lineup a couple of spots.

Red Sox

Enrique Hernández has started in two of three games since returning from the IL.

Bobby Dalbec has started only twice in the last 10 games.

Royals

• Steady at the top.

• Whenever Salvador Perez is the DH, a regular needs to sit and is it usually Nick Pratto or Vinnie Pasquantino – both lefties.

Michael Massey (.838 OPS) has started in eight of the last nine games.

Tigers

Kerry Carpenter (1.050 OPS, 2 HR in 25 PA) has started three straight while batting fifth or sixth.

Akil Baddoo (.303/.343/.303 with 2 SB over the last two weeks) has started in 10 of the last 11 games while batting ninth.

Twins

• There are three lineups. No Buxton. Buxton as the DH. Buxton in center. The other outfielders lose playing time based on that day’s arrangement.

White Sox

• Steady.

Josh Harrison (.740 OPS over the past month) has started eight straight at second base.

Yankees

• It was once a steady lineup but now a mess besides Judge batting second.

National League

Braves

Robbie Grossman (.965 OPS with ATL) has started three straight in left field while batting ninth.

Vaughn Grissom has started nine straight (1.113 OPS, .478 BABIP)

Brewers

• Steady.

Tyrone Taylor (.553 OPS over the past two weeks) might be losing his hold on the center field role to Jonathan Davis. Davis has started in two of the last five games.

• What was once a steady lineup has turned into a mess.

Tyler O’Neill (.817 OPS vs LHP, .615 OPS vs RHP) has sat against two of the last three righties.

Lars Nootbaar (.762 OPS) has started 21 straight games and has been leading off against righties.

Dylan Carlson (.713 OPS) has started in 28 of the last 29 games.

Cubs

• It’s tough to roster any of these guys since they rarely play every day.

• Since joining the team, Franmil Reyes has started eight of nine games.

Christopher Morel (.773 OPS) has started in seven of the last ten games.

• Catcher-qualified P.J. Higgins (.853 OPS, 6 HR) has started three straight at first base.

Giants

• The three platoon safe players seem to be Brandon Belt, Thairo Estrada, and Mike Yastrzemski.

Marlins

• This lineup has turned into a nightmare with no regulars besides JJ Bleday (.687 OPS, 3 HR, 2 SB). and something called Peyton Burdick (.623 OPS, 1 HR, .774 OPS in the minors)

Luke Williams (.653 OPS, 10 SB, 96 PA) has started in five of the last eight games.

Nick Fortes sneaks in some DH at-bats in order to be a decent second catcher option (.254 AVG, 6 HR, 5 SB).

Tyler Naquin and Mark Canha are just splitting time, not in a platoon.

Ildemaro Vargas (.718 OPS, 2 HR) has nine straight starts.

CJ Abrams has four straight starts while batting seventh.

Victor Robles (.607 OPS) has started in only five of the last 10 games.

Matt Vierling (.599 OPS) has made seven straight starts.

Darick Hall (.853 OPS, 9 HR) got a start against the last lefty the team faced. Monitor to see if this becomes a trend.

• Like other teams, the Pirates have gone full time-share/platoon and it is crushing every player’s value.
