Lineup Analysis (4/12/24)

American League

Angels

Brandon Drury (.429 OPS) has started in 11 of 12 games so far.

Mickey Moniak (vs RHP) and Aaron Hicks (vs LHP) are in a right-field platoon. Hicks does play against a few righties.

Astros

Jake Meyers (.673 OPS) and Mauricio Dubón (.639 OPS) are splitting time in centerfield.

Jon Singleton (.581 OPS) and José Abreu (.227 OPS, wrist injury) are splitting time at first base.

Athletics

Abraham Toro (.701 OPS) has led off for four straight games.

JJ Bleday has (.688 OPS) started every game so far.

Blue Jays

• The bottom half of the lineup is certainly a mess. Here are the OPS values for the six guys cycling in and out.

Name: OPS
Cavan Biggio: .841
Davis Schneider: .837
Isiah Kiner-Falefa: .764
Ernie Clement: .672
Daulton Varsho: .422
Kevin Kiermaier: .273

There aren’t enough spots for these six with two sitting every game.

Guardians

Will Brennan (vs RHP) and David Fry (vs LHP) are in a platoon.

Brayan Rocchio (vs RHP) and Gabriel Arias (vs LHP) are in a shortstop platoon.

Mariners

Dylan Moore (vs LHP) and Dominic Canzone (vs RHP) are in a left-field platoon.

Luis Urías (vs LHP) and Josh Rojas (vs RHP) are in a third-base platoon.

Orioles

Colton Cowser (vs RHP) and Austin Hays (vs LHP) are in a left-field platoon.

Rangers

Davis Wendzel (vs LHP) and Josh Smith (vs RHP) are in a third-base platoon.

Ezequiel Duran (vs LHP) and Jared Walsh (vs RHP) are in a first base platoon while Nathaniel Lowe remains on the IL.

Rays

Curtis Mead has started three straight, including one against a righty with Brandon Lowe going on the IL.

Red Sox

• The infield is a mess with three starters hurt. No one has stepped up to claim a job.

Ceddanne Rafaela (.562 OPS) and Wilyer Abreu (.499 OPS) are struggling so they’re splitting time in the outfield.

Royals

Nelson Velázquez has started in seven straight games.

Nick Loftin (.510 OPS) and Adam Frazier (.586 OPS) are splitting time at second base.

Tigers

Matt Vierling (vs LHP) and Parker Meadows (vs RHP) remain in their outfield platoon.

Twins

• What a mess to figure out. A different third baseman over the last three games.

Christian Vázquez (.310 OPS) and Ryan Jeffers (.601 OPS) are splitting time at catcher.

Matt Wallner (.419 OPS) has started in only six of the ten games.

White Sox

• I usually don’t cover minor league baseball but I’ll make an exception.

Robbie Grossman (.514 OPS) has led off for four straight games.

Korey Lee (.876 OPS) has started in three straight games, one at DH.

Yankees

Alex Verdugo (.644 OPS) has started every game this season.

Jon Berti (vs LHP) and Oswaldo Cabrera (vs RHP) are in a third-base platoon.

National League

Braves

• The only mixing in this lineup is in left field. Adam Duvall faces lefties and Jarred Kelenic righties.

Brewers

• Another mess. Guys seem to be added and removed for no rhyme or reason.

Cardinals

Victor Scott II (.300 OPS, 2 SB) has started every game.

Alec Burleson (.600 OPS) has started in 12 of 13 games.

Cubs

• Steady.

• Over the 12 games, Yan Gomes and Miguel Amaya have equally split time at catcher.

Diamondbacks

Randal Grichuk (.563 OPS) has started five straight games including one against a righty.

Blaze Alexander (.976 OPS) with five straight starts.

Dodgers

• Once past the big six, the team seems to be randomly sticking guys in the lineup.

James Outman (career .655 OPS vs LHP, .839 OPS vs RHP) sits against lefties.

Giants

Mike Yastrzemski (vs RHP) and Austin Slater (vs LHP) are in a right-field platoon.

Marlins

Nick Fortes (.293 OPS) and Christian Bethancourt 베탄코트 (.050 OPS) are splitting time at catcher.

• I hate to sound like a broken record, but I can’t figure out what is happening with the last couple of spots. Some pattern starts to emerge and then it’s gone.

Mets

Harrison Bader has started in nine of 12 games while hitting .257/.278/.257 with 0 HR and 1 SB.

Nationals

Jacob Young (.143/.217/.143, 4 SB) has started in six of seven games.

Trey Lipscomb (.231/.262/.308, 1 HR, 4 SB) has started every game since being promoted.

Padres

• Steady as they come.

Tyler Wade (career .500 OPS vs LHP, .613 vs RHP) may be in a platoon at third base.

Phillies

• Steady.

Brandon Marsh (vs RHP) might still be getting benched against lefties.

Pirates

Connor Joe (vs LHP) and Rowdy Tellez (vs RHP) are in a first-base platoon.

Jared Triolo (.654 OPS, 1 HR, 1 SB) has started eight straight games.

Andrew McCutchen has started in only seven of 13 games.

Reds

Santiago Espinal (vs LHP) and Nick Martini (vs RHP) are in a cross-position platoon.

Jake Fraley (vs RHP) and Stuart Fairchild (vs LHP) are in an outfield platoon.

Rockies

• Lots of movement in lineup spots but its usually the same players expect one spot where the bench players are cycled through.
