Justin Mason: I would drop Winker very quickly

Justin Mason: Gallo, but it is closer than one would think.

Patrick: Hey Justin! What are some good cheap OF options for my AL only auction?  Talking end game $1 options…

Brandon: For daily leagues, what are some late strong side platoon bats that can be targeted that might be off everyone’s radar? I currently have rostered Winker, Naylor, Jared Walsh and plan on cycling those guys in and out based on whether they are facing lefties or not. Any other names?

Justin Mason: LaMont Wade, Josh Outman, TJ Friedl, Jake Fraley

RAH: Thoughts on a Javier Baez bounce back? Some people have pointed to a good finish to last season, but I think the date is cherry picked to seem like a longer period of time and therefore seem like more of a consistent rebound. His 2022 “2nd half” was largely propped up by a very good Sept. July and August were bad… if you look at the month to month, it looks randomly streaky. I don’t see any evidence there of an adjustment that was made to lead to better production – just a talented and streaky player.

Justin Mason: Talent is definitely there but the approach is super scary. That being said, the floor is safer than it appears so I don’t mind taking the bounceback gamble.

Guest: Logan Gilbert = Cy Young?

Justin Mason: Probably not but I do like him

20MO God: Which Angels “closer” gets the lions share of saves?

Justin Mason: I think Estevez gets first shot, but I wonder if the guy that finished with the most saves is not yet on the team

BEN. AFFLECK.: Do you have more interest in Brice Turang or Joey Wiemer for this year in a NL Only roto league?

Justin Mason: I have interest in both. Turang will have the more immediate impact

Jack: I got Cedric for $15 in my AL only when guys like Teoscar/Soringer went for $20 and Meneses went for $17. Think they will play him against lefties this year?

Justin Mason: I think they have to to start the season. If he continues to struggle against them, then he could lose time

Babo: Brewers have a lot of young OF talent. Do you think Weimer makes the team and what kind of outlook do you have for him, Sal, Mitchell, or even Chourio?

Justin Mason: I don’t think Weimer makes the team out of spring. I am really interested in Mitchell. Nice speed/power combo. Frelick is someone I like but I think it is a bit before he comes up.

Justin Mason: I think he is a pretty safe SP2. I would want a pretty nice haul for him.

K2: With Luke Voit signing a major league deal with MKE, how are your projections looking? Is he destined for a small side platoon?

Justin Mason: I want the Witt side of this.

Mario: Any optimism for a Castellanos rebound?

Justin Mason: I don’t have much. If you are betting on him it is because of his name. There was not much in the profile that showed he was unlucky. He didn’t look great in spring either.

Bad Jimmy: Would you drop Jorge Mateo or Jack Flaherty (both extra, bench players) to pick up Dylan Dodd?

Guest: Where does Anthony Volpe slide into your rankings now that he’s won the SS job?

Justin Mason: I haven’t updated his projections but I would think he would be 13th for me

Vic: In a 12 team 5 x 5 NL Only with S + Holds. Should I start my season with 4 RP?. Only an 850 innings minimum.

Justin Mason: I think you would find yourself behind in wins and strikeouts.

Carlos: Who’s your favorite late round potential closer to target: Puk, Fulmer, Ottavino, Estevez, Reynaldo, May, Graterol

Justin Mason: I am concerned enough that I wasn’t considering drafting them during my main event.

Jeff !: With some helium guys confirmed to be on opening day rosters (Walker, Volpe) there are some still good prices on others (Wesneski, Turang). Who’s your favorite target at their current price?

Justin Mason: Wesneski for sure. Ryne Nelson in Arizona is another.

Jack: Just an idea, for your next pod a palooza, you should have 15 minute consultations as a prize with you and others in the industry during draft season. Help with keepers/draft strategies etc.

Justin Mason: I would definitely do that

Kyle: Did you draft a main event team? If so, how did it go?

Justin Mason: I did on Saturday. I had a rough start because I went hitting early and the pitching cost were insane. I recovered well enough, but I definitely am hurting for pitching.

Guest: Thanks for chatting!  Would you trade Senga for Yoshida?  I have a strong pitching corps (deGrom, McClanahan, Urias) and I could use offense, so I’m inclined to do it, but so hard to know what to expect from either one.

Guest: 2023 Bounce Back Challenge:  Brandon Lowe or Max Muncy for 2B?

Justin Mason: I think Muncy is the safer bet to bounceback but Lowe has the greater upside of the two

Guest: In a 12-team, H2H categories league. I have no SS depth after Correa and one of my MIF spots is occupied by Brandon Drury ) I’m in trade conversations for Corey Seager with me sending Pablo Lopez, Blake Snell, and Jake McCarthy the other way. I have incredibly deep pitching and won’t miss the Ks too much. Is this a fair consolidation of talent to address a need, or a colossal overpay?

Justin Mason: I think you should get another piece back, but in a pinch, I would do this.

Justin Mason: Absolutely! I drafted him in a ton of leagues this year. Love the pitch mix change we saw last year.

Justin Mason: I hope so! He is on 50% of my teams heading into the season.

Guest: Do you think Kyle Schwarber would be a significant upgrade over Teoscar Hernandez or Eloy Jimenez in the OF?

Justin Mason: I think he is an upgrade, but not significant.

Chris: What is your all-time go-to candy bar?

Justin Mason: Reese

JoJo: How excited should we be about O Colas? Is he better than say Austin Hays or Adam Duvall?

Jim: Wil Myers or Oscar Colas?

Justin Mason: I am intrigued. I think he should be better than Hays or Duvall. Definitely looking forward to seeing if he can hold the role.

Pete: Drafted this weekend, 12 team mixer, ended up a little light at SS – Baez on the rebound and Estrada.  Is Royce Lewis worth a stash?  Garcia (KC), Mauricio and J. Ortiz are other stash options.

Justin Mason: Lewis won’t be ready until the summer. I think I would stash Garcia instead

Justin Mason: I think that is decent but Stone is super intriguing.

Mario: What’s the word on Austin Meadows? Is he healthy? Was there a mental health thing last year? More to point… Is he back to hitting like old self?

Justin Mason: At this point, I am staying away until he proves he is back

B’ryce Hammer: Feels like I see Dylan Cease’s name on every bust list out there… seems kinda funny to ignore year over year improvements in a guy, no?

Justin Mason: He could definitely shove, but there are so many red flags that I wasn’t interested at his price.

Justin Mason: I think he could. I wasn’t in on the hype train for this year because I didn’t think he would make the team and now because his price is too high

Bad Jimmy: Thoughts on Danny Jansen breaking out this year? I know he already sorta did at the end of last season, but can he do it for a full season? If already rostering Varsho, should I cut bait for someone like Dodd or Franmil?

Justin Mason: I think the only thing that stops him is if Belt takes away too many DH opportunities. In a one catcher league, I would try and trade him or varsho

Question: Do you know when the tyeam-by-team prospect lists on FanGraphs will be finished? Right now, there are only 6 AL teams completed, and 4 NL teams done.

Justin Mason: I do not

20MO God: How many PAs does Burleson get in that loaded STL lineup?

Justin Mason: I think he is back in a month or so, but I have very little hope for 2023 relevance.

DJ: It appears Joey Wiemer could make the Brewers opening day roster (it’s between him and Owen Miller at the moment). Wiemer has the ingredients to be a fantasy darling, he put up a 20+ HR / 30+ SB season in the high minors last year despite missing a few weeks with a thumb/hand injury. Are you buying or selling Wiemer as a dark horse difference maker in deeper leagues?

Justin Mason: I don’t think he makes the team but I would be super excited if he does. Maybe he flames out like Josh Lowe did last year, but I think the upside is good enough it is worth the gamble

Yaki: Is Elehuris Montero getting completely overlooked right now? Can he hit .250 with 25-30 HR?

Justin Mason: If he plays full time, maybe, but I worry about the Moustakas signing.

Guest: Does Nolan Gorman at least start against RHP this season? Or are you worried he could be a part time player?

Justin Mason: I worry he is a part timer. I wish they would trade him.

Boring OFs: Yaz or Kepler?  Better in OBP 5×5?  Better at making people forget they still exist?

KD: %Chance Ohtani is an Angel at end of season?

Milw OF: probability that Chouros is up this year?

Phil: Any big upside deep sleeper picks or buy low trade candidates you recommended looking at for SS? Rolling with Tovar, Stott, and Turang as my SS options. Pretty much all top prospects are gobbled up and SS is my clear weak spot in the lineup

Justin Mason: Abrams, Maikel Garcia, Newman

Mickey Rivers Cuomo: Tyler Mahle was a surprise drop in my only league. Next best available on the waiver wire is probably Pivetta. How aggressively should I bid to fill an open SP slot?

Justin Mason: I wouldn’t be overly aggressive.
