Justin Mason’s 2022 Shortstop Ranks: 3/7/22

As we head into primetime drafting season, I will be rereleasing my positional ranks. Here are my current ranks for the shortstop position for 2022, my third of the offseason. I will post updates as things change with signings, injuries, or news in Major League Baseball. On the Sleeper and the Bust Patreon, you can see the rankings updated live.

2 Fernando Tatis Jr. SD SS, OF 2.14 Would be the #1 player if we knew he was healthy.
3 Bo Bichette TOR SS 4.91 I don’t know that the ceiling is much higher, but he is a stud. #4 overall player for me.
4 Tim Anderson CWS SS 31.66 All around contributor with some injury risk.
5 Trevor Story FA SS 34.52 I think whereever he lands, he will be fine.
6 Francisco Lindor NYM SS 49.14 I think we see a pretty nice bounceback.
7 Xander Bogaerts BOS SS 50 Boring but reliable
8 Marcus Semien TEX 2B, SS 45.52 Hate may be going too far.
9 Javier Báez DET 2B, SS 62.36 Power and speed will play in Detroit.
10 Jorge Polanco MIN 2B, SS 77.27 I believe in the breakout.
11 Wander Franco TB SS 61.45 I don’t think the power/speed ceiling is as high as others in 2022.
12 Jazz Chisholm Jr. MIA 2B, SS 73.59 Huge upside if he can stay healthy.
13 Bobby Witt Jr. KC SS 89.52 When he is up, I think he wll be very good. Should gain 3B eligibility which will be great
14 Dansby Swanson ATL SS 114.36 I used to fade, but now I am fine withthe price.
15 Willy Adames MLW SS 126.02 Move to Milwaukee let him finally breakout.
16 Jake Cronenworth SD 1B, 2B, SS 127.43 Love the triple eligiblity on a great team
17 Corey Seager TEX SS 88.89 Injury history, lack of speed and bad lineup have me fading him
18 Gleyber Torres NYY SS 144.86 Second half is more in line with where he should be.
19 Chris Taylor LAD 2B, SS, OF 134.95 Second half average drop is a bit concerning.
20 Carlos Correa FA SS 109.68 Injury history, and lack of speed have me fading him
21 Amed Rosario CLE SS 144.25 Underrated for what he brings to the table.
22 Luis Urías MLW 2B, 3B, SS 147.73 I don’t think there is a ton of room for growth except in average.
23 Eugenio Suárez CIN 3B, SS 200.09 I think the September changes mean a rebound for 2022.
24 Nicky Lopez KC SS 236.52 Discounted for lack of pop.
25 Oneil Cruz PIT SS 208.64 Could be a stud once he is up.
26 Andrés Giménez CLE 2B, SS 239.02 Finally began to produce at the end of the season. Probably underrated.
27 Brendan Rodgers COL 2B, SS 170.39 If healthy, he could be really good, but I need to see him stay on the field.
28 Brandon Crawford SF SS 213.5 No way he repeats, but still viable.
29 Jonathan Villar FA 3B, SS 263.66 Once he lands a role, price will jump.
30 Gio Urshela NYY 3B, SS 283.34 Injuries scare me off of him.
31 Gavin Lux LAD 2B, SS 227.84 Talent is immense and this could be the year.
32 Paul DeJong STL SS 388.55 Reworking his swing could mean a return to relevance.
33 Josh Rojas ARZ 2B, SS, OF 224.66 I want to believe, but the StatCast profile is gross.
34 Miguel Rojas MIA SS 325.05 Some cheap speed if you need it late.
35 J.P. Crawford SEA SS 318.95 Will rack up a bunch of runs leading off.
36 Isiah Kiner-Falefa TEX SS 324.64 Now that Jung is hurt, he should play everyday.
37 Didi Gregorius PHI SS 419.41 I think his time is about done.
38 Kyle Farmer CIN SS 489.61 At somepoint, I think he loses this job.
39 David Fletcher LAA 2B, SS 337.32 Will play everyday.
40 Cole Tucker PIT SS 583.77 If he can find at bats, he could breakout
41 Ha-Seong Kim 김하성 SD 2B, 3B, SS 342.66 I still believe in the talent. Needs a role.
42 Edmundo Sosa STL 2B, SS 408.34 Looks like he could have a job on Opening Day.
43 Joey Wendle MIA 3B, SS 345.25 Kind of boring but should play somewhat regularly.
44 Jose Barrero CIN SS 367.7 At somepoint he should replce Farmer.
45 Willi Castro DET 2B, SS 520.57 Last year’s bust is still pretty young.
46 Elvis Andrus OAK SS 515.27 Will pla a lot in Oakland, but that lineup is about to be really bad.
47 Tyler Wade NYY 3B, SS, OF 419.73 In line for a big role right now, but I think the Angels bring in Story or Correa.
48 Taylor Walls TB SS 548.82 Could find himself in a super utility role in Tampa.
49 Ramón Urías BAL 2B, SS 425.7 Could be interesting if he is a full time player.
50 Nick Ahmed ARZ SS 512.93 Defense first guy will continue to play.
51 Jeremy Pena HOU SS 431.68 Could be the starter if they don’t bring Correa back.
52 Alcides Escobar WAS SS 575.84 Could play a decent amount.
53 José Iglesias FA SS 586.73 Needs a home.
54 Geraldo Perdomo ARZ SS 659.39 He is the future in Arizona, but I don’t know when he is a full time Major Leaguer.
55 Jeter Downs BOS SS 722.48 Should debut at somepoint
56 CJ Abrams SD SS 599.91 Could be up at somepoint late.
57 Andrelton Simmons FA SS 658.43 Needs a home
58 Sergio Alcantara CHC 2B, SS 741.32 Might play a fair amount as a utility infielder.
59 Royce Lewis MIN SS 704.93 Former top prospect needs to find health to unlock tools.
60 Kevin Newman PIT SS 611.84 Probably just a utility guy
61 Bryson Stott PHI SS 429.59 Could find a role if Philly doesn’t bring in Story or Correa.
