Kiermaier’s Dashing Good Looks: What are your thoughts on Gausman potentially sacrificing velocity early on in games for additional sink/run. Last night against the Indians, he was consistently working down in the zone with good movement and was able to reach back for 95-97 when he needed it. Seems as though he’s really working on actually “pitching” instead of being the thrower that he was when he first came up. If last night’s start wasn’t a sign of encouragement, then I don’t know what is.

9:03	Joser: Is Max Kepler in the middle of a breakout? 12% BB rate, 10% k-rate, increased his FB rate by 10 points and decreased his GB% by 6 points, hard-hit rate up 6 points, .964 OPS. He’s always had the raw tools…

9:04	Justin Mason: One of those guys that didn’t play baseball growing up so the tools haven’t translated as quickly. This could be the breakout, but the sample is too small right now.

9:04	Justin Mason: Yes, I am on board that train. Love the raw tools and considering the off the field issues last year, he should be able to focus more now.

NtflxnRichHill : You have any shares of Puig and are you holding? Exit velocity is okay, xwOBA is .322 compared to .240 wOBA. But the pop-ups are still there and he’s stopped pulling the ball (31.1% this year to 41.7% for his career). Trusting the projections the rest of the way would give him a very Puig-like .258/.334/.433 with 20 HR and 13 SB..

9:10	Mitchell: Just got offered Acuna for Hoskins in a dynasty league. Thoughts on taking Hoskins out of the lineup now for Acuna’s potential soon?

9:10	Justin Mason: If you aren’t competing then do it. If you are then I wouldn’t

9:10	Cutch is Good: Early in the season, do you try to take advantage of early season ERAs being lower by starting more guys or do you play matchups more carefully?

9:11	Justin Mason: I play more carefully because I hate to put myself in a hole.

9:11	Jobe: Are you benching Luis Castillo until he turns it around?

9:11	Justin Mason: If you can afford to. I know I can’t in the only league I have him in.

9:11	Tooge2: Hi! I’m in a twelve team obp/qs league and am hoping to add some power. I have a few of pitchers off to hot starts: Pivetta, Reynaldo, and Junis. Which of these guys would you sell first? And for how much of a return?

9:12	Justin Mason: I would sell Junis first. Look for a top 150 player

9:12	Quadrangular: Puig, C. Santana, Votto: these are all nice solid buy low guys, right?

9:13	Justin Mason: Puig and Santana definitely are, but I don’t think any reasonable fantasy player is selling low on Votto.

9:17	Carl: How many games does it take to properly evaluate a pitcher’s trade value? I keep waiting for Jarlin Garcia to fall back to earth, but other than finally having an ERA over .099, it hasn’t happened yet.

9:18	Justin Mason: Got to give it a few more start. Strand rate, baby, xFIP all point to regression.

9:18	Dan: Any hope for Tim Beckham replicating last season?

9:18	Justin Mason: Sure, but it isn’t a good chance.

9:19	Johnny: Thoughts on Sal Romano? Had his second great spring training in a row and last couple outings he’s cut down the BBs and increased the Ks…

9:19	Justin Mason: Eno helped me buy in a little. Worth a deep league gamble, but pick your starts in that park

9:19	Samoans are delicious: I keep hearing Manaea is a sell high candidate, however if he has something like top 30 potential is it better to hold?

9:19	Justin Mason: I think you hold. The value is inflated and people don’t want to think they are buying high.

9:20	Justin Mason: Yes. Sixto is special and MAitan is so far away

9:20	Justin Mason: Super impressed with him. The control needs work on some of the off speed stuff, but he is young and I love the heat and mechanics.

9:21	Rob: I’m dead last in my 20 team keeper league. I have McCullers in the final year of his contract. I’ll be moving him for a prospect bat. 1) How should I sell McCullers to my league mates? 2) what kind of bat should I realistically shoot for?

9:22	Justin Mason: Show them gifs of his pitches. They speak for themselves. I would want a top 30 prospect back

9:23	Ted: Thoughts on Castellanos?

9:23	Justin Mason: I think he is about to have a power surge any second now. Hard contact is off the chart right now.

9:24	Justin Mason: I have a hard time believing it. The numbers are there, but I don’t know that the playing time will be.

Erik: I inherited a team in an 18-team dynasty league this offseason that looked like it should finish around 6th-9th. After a laundry list of early-season injuries, I’m currently 17th. I still think this team has talent, but those stats are already in the bank and I’m in a huge hole. At what point would you start selling in that situation?

9:25	Justin Mason: I like to wait until mid-may, but start the shopping process and see what is out there. Just make sure you get the best possible deals.

9:30	Justin Mason: I really like Pivetta so I don’t think it is crazy. Also love Sanchez, so that is a tough call.

9:31	Matt W: What should I expect for my two old 1B: Miggy Cabrera and Hanley Ramirez? Should I hold on (I can play them both at 1B and Util) and trust that they’ve returned to form or try to sell for some younger upside?

Matt: Last week, in a dynasty league, I traded Cruz and $6 Merrifield for Cano and $5 Roark (and jump from late 4th to mid 2nd round in minors draft). Cruz/Cano contracts the same, and both will double to above-market prices after the season. I’m having second thoughts about this. It filled needs though – did I do terrible?

9:34	RMR: I think you had indicated in a previous chat that you thought Kyle Tucker was going to be up pretty quickly. Can you expound on this a bit? Obviously Fisher and Marisnick have struggled, but how quickly would they really bump him up?

9:35	Justin Mason: Fisher is Major League ready and is a future star. The Astros want to repeat, so if they feel like he can help now, I think they will bring him up. I would guess he is up in the next month.

Erik: One thing I’d love to see more of in fantasy analysis in general is general strategy tips. It’s probably more fun to talk about specific players, but every once in a while it would be cool to read up on how your approach to the game changes in different league settings. Do you have a favorite little-known tip in that area? Some way that value changes in certain circumstances that people don’t usually account for?

9:56	Chucky : Are we out on Castillo? Hasn’t done anything in 2018 to warrant even a slot in that awful Cincy rotation, yet alone a 12 teamer. We’re obviously living in 2017 and that impressive 80+ IP, but the velocity drop essentially has rendered him useless.
