Final(ish) Games Chat
2:03 |
: I’ll be watching the AZ-SD game
2:08 |
: Summary of the eight different scenarios.
2:08 |
: Go SD. End the season today.
2:09 |
: I would have preferred a Sale start this week, but I understand.
2:10 |
: Pfaadt has been horrible against lefties, five in the lineup today.
2:11 |
: 0 chance Hader or Robert Suarez pitch today right? I benched them both. Thanks for all your insight this season!
2:11 |
: Maybe on Suarez, they might want him to get an inning of work in.
2:12 |
: Coming down to the last few days in a roto league, if you’re ahead and ratios, you bench all your starters right? That way they have to beat you and you can’t beat yourself? Benched Yamomoto last night as well as Reynoldo. Could have used the whip help, but hindsight’s 20/20.
2:13 |
: That’s usually the plan. It’s tough to make up anything with starters only going 3 IP
2:15 |
: Pfaadt is dealing.
2:15 |
: Changes so much from game to game
2:17 |
: Half an inning down
2:20 |
: The Mets with a one run lead against the Brewers
2:21 |
: Thanks for a great year, Jeff! I hope to see you in this space next year!
2:22 |
: Thanks Stanley, I wouldn’t change it but it’s nice to have my weekends back for six months
2:24 |
: DBacks trying. They need to get at least one of these base runners home.
2:24 |
: Guess not
2:27 |
: Think a favorite will win it all? Or one of the grungier teams? I got Baltimore and Atlanta
2:29 |
: Phillies for me. I like their pitching. In the AL, I like Houston right now. Every other team has issues.
2:30 |
: For Baltimore, I think they could use more pitching. Atlanta is soft on bats.
2:30 |
: The Braves, with Lopez back, have the pitching to do some damage if they make the playoffs.
2:31 |
: What the hell was that throw by Gurriel
2:33 |
: Runs in all three games so far.
2:35 |
: Braves and DBacks losing. Mets winning.
2:36 |
: Right now, no games tomorrow, Clark is happy
2:38 |
: The AZ-SD ump wants the season over. The zone is huge
2:40 |
: Anyone got any good sweats today?
2:41 |
: I’m right on the edge of the NFBC Auction overall
2:42 |
: Yes
2:43 |
: You have a small one there Clark?
2:43 |
: lol
2:44 |
: If anyone doesn’t know, Clack is in fighting for first in the NFBC ME.
2:48 |
: Whoa, I’m surprised that low pitch wasn’t a strike
2:49 |
: Perdomo, I ended up rostering him in too many leagues this year.
2:53 |
: The shift lives … sort of
2:54 |
: brb, beverage run
2:56 |
: So is Pfaadt going to forget his curveball next season when I draft him everywhere?
2:58 |
: Situation remains the same, no games tomorrow
3:01 |
: Urshela solo homer, Braves are on the board, down 3-1 3rd
3:02 |
: Thanks Stanley.
3:02 |
: The Royals are running out the B line for sure
3:05 |
: Not the final game. Monday could become interesting.
3:06 |
: Good point, but it is right now.
3:07 |
: DBacks with another guy on second with fewer than 2 outs. Maybe he can score this time.
3:08 |
: AZ tied it up
3:10 |
: White Sox winning. I like a few of their arms but that’s about it
3:10 |
: AZ with the lead
3:12 |
: Games tomorrow right now. AZ needs a Monday split to get in.
3:13 |
: Marte with a bomb, now 6-1
3:13 |
: Renfroe solo shot for KC, up 4-1 4th
3:14 |
: I might move over to the Mets game
3:18 |
: Mets now a 3-0 lead
3:20 |
: Mets and Braves are going to reenact the Disgrace of Gijón tomorrow.
3:22 |
: Braves 2 on 1 out 4th
3:23 |
![]() ![]() |
3:23 |
: Laureano single, Braves down 4-2
3:25 |
: Laureano is tough to evaluate. The 31% puts a ton of pressure on the AVG
3:26 |
: Mets first and second with no outs
3:27 |
: He’s come through for the team a few times
3:27 |
: Enough hot streaks to keep people interested.
3:29 |
: Just saw the Heliot Ramos news on plantar fasciitis. Off my 2025 draft list. That sucks
3:32 |
: Another run for NYM
3:32 |
: 4-0
3:33 |
: Morton out, Grant Holmes in for the Braves top 5th
3:35 |
: The Braves Royals game seems like the game now. I didn’t want to jump through hoops to watch the game (blackout). I might just go with the radio.
3:37 |
: Praise to Manfred for the continued blackouts
3:38 |
: RSNs are a mess and MLB bends over backwards for them.
3:42 |
: Marsh is only good about a third of the time. When he puts two of those games in a row, everyone gets excited.
3:42 |
: Mets add another 5-0
3:46 |
: Braves aren’t doing against Marsh, and yes, when he puts in two in a row, like any other pitcher, people get antsy
3:47 |
: Reminds me of Andrew Heaney
3:49 |
: DBacks up to 7-1
3:56 |
: Had to google Disgrace of Gijon. That was a great reference.
3:57 |
: It’s why some contests end at the same time. It could even happen in MLB if one team knew the outcome of the previous games.
4:00 |
: The Brewers doing in-game replacements to acknowledge the regulars.
4:03 |
: Royals with a baserunner
4:04 |
: DBacks up 8-2
4:05 |
: Mets up 5-0
4:09 |
: Braves running out innings
4:13 |
: Still lined for two games tomorrow
4:14 |
: Royals with a pitching change with a runner on 1st
4:18 |
: Hi Jeff, I’m a fan of sabermetrics from Japan and also a fan of yours. This year’s performance by Ohtani was incredible, especially considering his WAR as a two-way player. Do you think this means he’s the kind of player who could put up 9-10 WAR at any position?
4:21 |
: First, this may be his best-hitting season ever. Most hitters regress downward from their 9 to 10 WAR seasons. Now, he could move to the OF or 1B and see his WAR go up as long as he has replacement-level defense. I’m guessing more 5-8 WAR seasons.
4:22 |
: 9-10 WAR seasons are rare
4:23 |
: Only nine hitters with 9+ over the past 10 season with 3 this year.
4:27 |
: Brewers with 2 on and 2 out in the 8th.
4:27 |
: Diaz warming up
4:28 |
: Churio up
4:29 |
: Fly out, one inning left
4:32 |
: Thank you, Jeff. After his phenomenal performance in the last few games, I was surprised to see that he recorded a WAR similar to that as a two-way player. The two-way style is truly mysterious. I look forward to seeing when the next player like this will emerge…
4:33 |
: I think someone could be a closer and Ohtani could do that. I think he’s close to the HOF right now. The best player in the game
4:33 |
: Am I crazy to think the Royals have the best one, two punch in the playoffs when it comes to starters?
4:35 |
: The Astros and Phillies are close. The Royals is a major step down on both.
4:36 |
: Ferrim hurt
4:37 |
: Just wanted to say thank you for another season’s worth of amazing content! I won my league title this year, and at least some of the credit goes to the fangraphs staff and all of the work that you do. May I also suggest to those who haven’t already, to become subscribers. The content is well worth the price! Thanks again!
4:39 |
: Congrats and thanks. We continue to try to improve constantly. Our rankings took a major step forward. We’ll continue to continue with content starting tomorrow.
4:41 |
: You have my thanks as well. I really like the FAAB articles.
4:41 |
: Thanks Mr. Olson. Good luck to you over the day
4:45 |
: Royals strand two runners, going to the 9th
4:46 |
: Edwin Diaz with no command but within one out of ending the game
4:47 |
: Mets win
4:51 |
: DBacks need one more out
4:52 |
: DBacks win, down to Royals and Braves
4:58 |
: Braves 1 on, no outs
5:02 |
: 1 out
5:05 |
: 2 outs
5:05 |
: runner on first, Albies up
5:07 |
: Is there any incentive for the Mets and Braves to play these games tomorrow? Why not both forfeit one of the games and save your pitching for the playoffs? Would MLB allow that?
5:07 |
: The DBacks might sue like crazy
5:07 |
: Royals win
5:07 |
: More baseball
5:08 |
: Appreciate ya!
5:08 |
: Thanks
5:08 |
: That’s it for today.
