Fantasy Weekly Planner (8/10/20-8/16/20)
This article is going to be a weekly planner/FAAB piece. It will come out each Sunday morning for those of you looking for ideas for that night’s pick-up. This takes over for the previous versions that were called “Who’s on First?” and “What’s on Second?”
Things to Consider
The Cardinals/Pirates game on Monday has been postponed and there is no indication of when the Cardinals will play again.
The Yankees, Blue Jays, Indians, Royals, and Marlins play five games this week.
16 teams don’t play on Thursday.
The Rockies play six games at home!
The Rangers and Diamondbacks each have a three game series in Colorado.
The Yankees, Blue Jays, Tigers, Astros, Angels, Phillies, Reds, and Rockies play all their games at home.
The Rays, Royals, A’s, Mariners, Braves, Nationals, Pirates, and Padres play all their games on the road.
Pickups to Consider By Position
Catchers:
Max Stassi– Stassi has four home runs already and is a pretty darn good framer which means he should continue to get work even when the bat cools off.
Francisco Cervelli– Cervelli is hitting well with Jorge Alfaro on the IL. This is a short term solution for people with Yadier Molina. Also consider Matt Weiters.
Infielders:
Edwin Rios– Rios has a ton of power, just needs the playing time.
Michael Chavis– Chavis isn’t playing everyday, but has two home runs in the last four starts and could be in line for more work if Peraza doesn’t get his OBP over .300.
Luery Garcia- With Madrigal out with a shoulder injury, Garcia should be in the lineup much more and his multi-positional eligibility is helpful in all leagues.
Joey Wendle– Wendle is hot right now so he will play until he cools down and then he can be dropped again.
Outfielders:
Jo Adell– I can’t imagine he is available in many leagues, but there is a chance he was dropped in some leagues where players had a lot of injuries on their teams.
Mike Tauchman– With Stanton hitting the IL, Tauchman should get a lot of at bats.
Victor Reyes– Is in line for more work right now and is still available because the Tigers lost so many games with the Cardinals COVID issues.
Jarrod Dyson– Dyson steals bases in bunches, but he almost always turns a profit. He is getting to play regularly, so if you can afford the power and average hit, he is worth the speed spec.
Ben Gamel– With the injuries in Milwaukee, Gamel has an everyday role for right now.
Starting Pitchers:
Randy Dobnak– Rich Hill is hurt again and Dobnak has a two-start week with one of the best offenses in the game behind him.
MacKenzie Gore– The Padres optioned Joey Lucchesi. Gore should be up very soon.
Spencer Howard– He is expected to start on Sunday and is the top prospect in the Phillies system.
Luis Patino– Patino has a ton of raw talent and pedigree. I just don’t know if the Padres are going to move him into the rotation.
Tyler Mahle– Mahle was a great late pick for people looking for cheap wins from a middle reliever.
Casey Mize– Mize should be up soon as well in spite of the fact the Tigers aren’t likely to be competing. He has a ton of talent and could be great down the stretch.
John Means– Means looked pretty good in his first start back and then was promptly placed on the bereavement list. If that pushes back his next start, he will have a two start week.
Relievers:
Ryan Pressly– Should be the main closer now in Houston. Still available in too many leagues.
Trevor Gott– Gott appears to have the SF job locked down. Giants won’t win a lot of games, but he will get saves.
Giovanny Gallegos– With Ryan Helsley down with COVID, Gallegos should reassume the role once the Cardinals are playing again.
