Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – June 11th, 2025

Ended a little early because I have an appointment to get to, but thanks for coming out and the transcript is now available! Also, I’m working on a new SP ranking and the goal is to get that out ahead of next week’s chat and then we can go an hour-plus discussing it on Wednesday the 18th!

1:02

Paul Sporer: Hey y’all, thanks for coming out. Slightly shorter chat today (~40 mins) as I have an appt. I need to get to so let’s roll!!

1:02

Matt: In Ottoneu H2H, you dropping Logan Allen로건 for Yarborough?

1:02

Paul Sporer: Ya I’m good w/that

1:04

Adenolith: Standard H2H league. Good on HRs, middle of the pack on R, RBIs, SB, and last in AVG. Can pick up J. Lowe or CES. What’s your preference?

1:05

Why not Zoidberg: Royce or CES in a standard league?

1:08

Paul Sporer: Interesting debates here w/CES. I think I lean against him in both cases, though, preferring Lowe and Royce. Lowe bc Adenolith is good in CES’s best category and Lowe can be more of a multi-cat piece when he’s rolling and I just think Royce is do for some strong regression back to the mean. Plate skills are excellent, power metrics are in line w/history, and so that leads me to believe the .213 BABIP is the major culprit here. As that regresses toward his career .281 mark (or better), stats will come flowing in — IF he stays healthy, of course

Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – June 4th, 2025

Thanks for coming out!

1:04

Paul Sporer: Hey y’all, thanks for coming out!!

1:04

The Batman: I just want to say that my roster has fully entered the “everyone is getting injured” phase and I am not enjoying it!

1:05

Paul Sporer: The worst time of the year that comes for virtually EVERY team at some point. The years you avoid it or catch the very low end often wind up being the ones where you can make a run to the title

1:06

Paul Sporer: That said, injuries don’t preclude you from that run so don’t give up! In the grand scheme, it is still relatively early. All leagues are different, but there are PLENTYYYY of teams in the last 3 places of their league that can realistically still win. Won’t be easy but absolutely can be done.

1:06

Matt: 12 team dynasty roto (OBP, TB)…is it time to cut ties w/ Adames? You dropping him to call up Shaw?

1:09

Paul Sporer: Still feels too early to cut bait. Could see a benching, but I’m reluctant to quit him. Especially with a 90 pt split in AVG/OBP so while his OBP is still weak at .293, once his BABIP starts getting going, he’ll be a solid OBP asset.

qane: Thanks for helping many of us get ahead of Meadows coming up. With him coming off the IL tomorrow, I need to deal with Adolis. Any reason to think he’ll come back to be a viable OF option? Where would you put him on your waiver list this morning? Thanks.

7:34
Jeff Zimmerman: I’m holding for a week to see what happens

7:34
Eye in the Sky: Hey, Jeff–how did your son run @ States?

Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – May 28th, 2025

Transcript is live, thanks for coming out!!

1:06

Paul Sporer: Hey y’all, thanks for coming out!!

1:07

Hank Scorpio: Hey Paul, thanks for the chat as always. Hoping you could rank these SP ROS in 12tm mixed QS roto: Megill, Gonsolin, Cecconi, Darvish, Dobbins, Misiorowski

1:11

Paul Sporer: That’s close to my order, though sight unseen I think I gotta move Darvish to last right now despite being a huge fan of him overall. Just not sure he can be trusted right now and then even when he does come back, are we gonna get many 6 IP starts?

1:11

Guest: Santander admits he’s still trying to plow through 2 injuries, and I’m over here really losing patience with the lack of an IL stint, but is Grisham still the drop if I’m over-outfielded?

1:15

Paul Sporer: I’m trying to be better at not just holding through lost causes but I also know we have to be careful not to overreact. That said, it’s June later this wk and he’s well below .200 AVG with a sub-20 HR pace… I think at this juncture Santander is the cut. While Grisham likely won’t keep this pace, his surge isn’t completely outta nowhere so I like holding him instead of Santander right now

1:15

Jasper: Hi Paul

Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – May 21st, 2025

Thanks for coming out!

1:03

Paul Sporer: Hey y’all, thanks for coming out!!

1:03

Tim: Are we calling Miguel Vargas’ recent run run a hot streak or was there enough there to think he’s clicking in the majors?

1:10

Paul Sporer: I think he’s starting to put some things together. Full disclosure: I’ve been a long-time Vargas mega-fan but I don’t think I’m just being blinded by fandom here. Simple fact is he deserved better than his .204 BABIP over 591 PA coming into this year and then he was even worse thru 20 gms this yr at .196 BABIP!! Things are finally coming around lately and it’s not even an exorbitant BABIP (.304) as he’s hitting .316/.383/.568 w/6 HR in his last 107 PA. So all that to say, I buy this and think we can see some sustained success from Vargas

1:10

Adenolith: Looking for 1 more pitcher in my h2h league. Are you feeling Rasmussen, Warren, or L. Henderson the most?

1:10

Paul Sporer: Playing the matchups is likely the best move here, but on talent alone, I lean Rasmussen

1:10

Slay, Slade: Cecconi seems like an interesting arm but gets DET, LAD, @NYY next… Should I hold in a deep league? Start vs. DET?

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m enjoying caramel rum from a local distillery (Speedtrap). It’s by far their best offering right now.

7:34
Guest: Is luke Jackson still closing by end of season? Justin Martinez also or will it be a committee with Puk, ginkel and miller? Vest the man in Detroit ?

7:34
Jeff Zimmerman: No idea to any of them. If I knew, I’d win all my leagues.

Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – May 14th, 2025

Thanks for coming out, we’ll go the full hour (and maybe more!) next week.

1:04

Paul Sporer: Welcome to the chat, thanks for coming out. Running a little shorter today (40-45 mins)

1:04

CYgano: Any reason to expect positive regression from Altuve?

1:07

Paul Sporer: Ehh, I’m a bit bearish on that. We’re hitting a point where this might just be age-related regression that doesn’t rebound

1:07

Bubic, Get Out the Way: Sell high or hold on Kris Bubic? And if sell, what’s a fair category-agnostic return?

1:08

Paul Sporer: If you have really good pitching and can help the team, I don’t mind shopping him, but chances are he isn’t fetching a mint and I’m inclined to just ride out this goodness

1:08

INsert witty nickname here: No question, just a couple notes: Ben Rice has now caught the 9th inning in 3 blowouts over the last few weeks, including 2 of their last 5 games. Also, Matt Carpenter announced his retirement.
