Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – February 7th, 2024

Transcript is live, thanks so much for coming out!

1:01

Paul Sporer: Hello everyone!! Thank you for coming out!

1:05

Kyle B: How high are you on Bryan Woo this season and in a dynasty format? I thought he showed some real promising signs last year and has good stuff, but he’s still in the 40s-50s in a lot of predraft lists.

1:08

Paul Sporer: I’m a fan! He’s in the 50s for me, essentially paired w/teammate Bryce Miller where I will take one once the first one is selected. He is being fairly priced after a solid debut so even if he doesn’t take a major step forward, you’re not being pinched at the draft table to take the shot on him

1:08

Clayton’s back: Hey Paul.  In a 12 team roto with 3 OFs and no CI or MI pick two to keep: L. Webb 5th, O. Cruz 11th, Casas 19th and Royce 22nd.  None of my other keepers are pitchers and my first pick will be in the 5th round (unless I keep Webb).  Thanks!

1:09

Paul Sporer: I gotta go Royce at that price. It really neutralizes the risk to pay a 22nd rounder for him so he’s the easy choice for me even w/the other 3 being strong players

1:10

Greg: Hey Paul, thanks for the chat. I’m in a head-to-head points league, daily lineup changes and we start 11 hitters. I have Yordan Alvarez, Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker as three of my keepers. I added Yainer Diaz last season and am now considering keeping him as well. Is four guys from the same lineup – even a lineup that good – too much in that type of league? Thanks!

Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – January 31st, 2024

Thanks for coming out!

1:00

Paul Sporer: Welcome everyone, thanks for coming out! Tomorrow is February… we are so close to pitchers & catchers reporting, y’all!!!!

1:03

Too Many Mooks: How has Acuna not been on the cover of The Show?

1:03

Paul Sporer: Not sure, but a lotttt goes into that stuff, so maybe they’ve tried? Thankfully for someone like him, he’s got time. I imagine he’ll have many more great seasons that merit a cover

1:08

Matt W.: Does Sam Huff get a majority of the DH ab’s for at least the first half of the season?

1:10

Paul Sporer: I think he’ll have a chance. He’s C-eligible again and while I don’t think he’s a great catcher, I love a non-catching catcher for fantasy. Huff has some big time power that he can tap into, especially if he can improve his plate skills a little and cut down the whiffs. I’ve speculated on him in a couple 50-round leagues over the winter bc of that catcher eligibility and the departure of Garver

1:10

Pedro: Hi Paul.  Thoughts on Eflin?  I can keep at $15 in an AL only 5×5 league, but odds for a repeat seem long, Rays wont have Franco etc.  Thanks

Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – January 24th, 2024

Thanks for coming out!

1:02

Paul Sporer: Hello everyone, thank you for coming out!!

1:02

Richard: Paul it’s 2024 not 2023!!!!

1:06

Paul Sporer: And I put the podcast pic on the tweet. Y’all, I’m losing my mind!! https://twitter.com/rotographs/status/1750231733855740220

1:06

Kyle: Was surprised to hear you used to smoke cigs- how’d you quit? Was it rough?

1:08

Paul Sporer: Some chest pain during softball was the turning point and did a pretty solid cold turkey run after that. Maybe 2-3 more in the following week, but otherwise done. Kinda crazy that I even started bc both my parents did/do and I never liked it. Just got caught up w/it as a freshman in college bc I liked the people who hung out in the smoking area, lol. The dumbest reason to start something like that, but thankfully got out before it had too much of a grip on me bc I know quitting is NOT easy

1:08

Loop: Hi Paul, Thoughts on Hoskins landing in Milwaukee?

Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – January 10th, 2024

Thanks for coming out!

Check out my C and SS rankings and feel free to ask any questions about them. The SP ones are coming.

1:06

Paul Sporer: Hello everyone! Happy New Year (cutting it close on the 10th day of the year, but I didn’t do the chat last week so I’m going with it)!!

1:08

Paul Sporer: I’m close to finishing the SP ranks with commentary. I did the Catchers and Shortstops as well so it’s taking a bit of time, but we didn’t want to just throw a standard list-only post up before these came out. I know I’ve been promising SP rankings for a while, but they’re v close.

1:08

Scott TINSTAAPP: Just started my first draft of the year, a slow DC…LFG

1:08

Paul Sporer: It’s that time of the year!!!

1:09

Scott TINSTAAPP: Do you like Woo and do you have concerns about how he’s virtually FB only?

1:12

Paul Sporer: I understand where that characterization comes from, but it is 3 distinct fastballs w/the 4-seamer, sinker, and cutter. And he has a slider and changeup that could improve. He’s in the 50s for me part of a group called The Next Wave. I like him.

Paul Sporer’s Baseball Chat – December 20th, 2023

Thanks for coming out, have a great holiday season, everyone!

Programming note: There won’t be a December 27th chat, back on January 3rd after this one

Update: I originally said chats would return January 3rd, but I’m eyeball-deep in rankings right now so catch my next chat on January 9th. Pardon me for the late change. Stay tuned for my C, SS, and SP commentary rankings coming in the next few days!

1:13

Paul Sporer: Hello everyone, thanks for coming out!!

1:13

PJ: Is Glasnow 110 million dollars better than pepiot? Is Margot any different than Doluca beyond salary? The Dodgers are making really questionable decisions imo

1:14

Paul Sporer: I love Pepiot, but Glasnow is definitely better and by quite a bit (Pep can get to a pretty high level, IMO, but Glasnow is ace quality right now). The problem is of course his health. That’s an unknowable X-factor and if he continues to deal w/health issues, it’s very possible Pepiot outearns him. Agree on Margot/Deluca.

1:14

copecru81: Pfaadt or Abbott keeper league?

1:15

Paul Sporer: Pfaadt for me. They’re close in a neutral situation, but of course there are in very different parks so I lean toward the guy who isn’t stuck in Cincy’s tough park

1:20

Globbery Robbery: Really enjoyed you and Justin on the Fantasy Baseball Today podcast with Scott and Frank. Please invite Scott on to the S&TB podcast sometime this season! I think you guys could really have good debates.
