Catcher ADP Market Report: 2/12/2024
As we hit the beginning of draft season, it is important to monitor where players are being drafted on a regular basis. Throughout draft season, I will be doing that work for you with regular updates on the Average Draft Position on NFBC up until Opening Day. You can read all the Market Reports here.

Top 200 Players Rising
Willson Contreras (+10.96) – I am a bit bummed to see Contreras jumping up the ADP. Contreras has been one of the safer and underrated options in fantasy at the catcher position over the last few years, but it appears the field is starting to catch on. I still love him at his price, because of the high floor and great lineup around him, but he isn’t the bargain that he was earlier in the draft season.
Logan O’Hoppe (+16.14) – I think people are starting to get excited about a full season of O’Hoppe which accounts for his rise. After missing time with a shoulder injury, he hit 10 home runs in just 140 plate appearances. The average wasn’t good but he had a 7% walk rate and a 23.6% strikeout rate and the BABIP was just .209. I think there is a lot of breakout potential if he can stay healthy.
Mitch Garver (+21.53) – Garver is rising after signing a deal to go to the Mariners. Garver has been great on a per plate appearance basis, but he has struggled to stay healthy. Fortunately for him and fantasy managers, he shouldn’t have to catch at all in Seattle as he is expected to just be the designated hitter which should keep him healthier than in seasons past. If he can stay healthy enough for 500 plate appearances, then he could approach 30 home runs.

Top 300 Players Rising
Shea Langeliers (+17.15) – Langeliers is rising in part because his ADP was just a bit too low. I really like what Langeliers offers. Cheap power at an affordable price. There are going to be batting average issues, but I also think he could go over 500 plate appearances with extra time at DH because the A’s lineup is so bad.
Danny Jansen (+11.46) – Jansen has all the tools to be a C1 and a breakout in 2024. He makes a lot of contact, there is power in the bat and is good behind the plate. The problem with Jansen has been health and playing time. I loved the price before the addition of Justin Turner, but unfortunately Turner is likely to command a lot of the DH responsibility which means Jansen is likely to lose plate appearances that he could have had. I still am ok with the price, but it isn’t as enticing as it was a few weeks ago.

Others of Note
Connor Wong (+14.12) – Connor is a pretty cheap catcher that should get around 350-400 plate appearances and not really hurt you. That being said, if he rises any more, he won’t be worth his price.
Ivan Herrera (+42.31) – I get why Herrera is rising as he made his Major League debut and he is an interesting catcher prospect. The problem is there is no real path to playing time unless Contreras goes down and I don’t see a ton of upside in his profile if he only gets like 200 plate appearances.
Blake Sabol (-56) – Sabol is dropping after the signing of Tom Murphy. Murphy not only takes Sabol’s playing time behind the plate, but likely costs Sabol a shot at the Opening Day roster. Last season Sabol couldn’t be sent down because he was a Rule 5 pick, but this year I expect he starts in the minors and only comes up once there is an injury or two.

Surprised Sanchez hasn’t moved up farther.
He will but there hasn’t been enough drafts since his signing.
