Bullpen Report: May 15, 2023
The 2023 version of the Bullpen Report includes five different sections, as well as the closer chart, which can be found at the bottom of the page.
We will always include a link to the full Closer Depth Chart at the bottom of the Bullpen Report each day. It’s also accessible from the RosterResource drop-down menu and from any RosterResource page. Please let us know what you think.
- Notable Workloads: Primary closers or valuable members of a closer committee who have been deemed unavailable or likely unavailable for the current day due to recent workload.
- Injury News
- Outlier Saves: Explanation for a non-closer earning a save during the previous day.
- Committee Clarity: Notes on a closer committee that clarify a pitcher’s standing in the group.
- Losing A Grip: Struggling closers who could be on the hot seat.
The “RosterResource” link will take you to the corresponding team’s RosterResource depth chart, which will give you a better picture of the full bullpen and results of the previous six days (pitch count, save, hold, win, loss, blown save).

Injury News
•A.J. Puk, MIA: Placed on the 15-day IL (nerve irritation) on Sunday. | RosterResource
This obviously isn’t good news for Puk, who’s enjoying the best season of his young career, with a 3.07 ERA, six saves, and career bests in both strikeout and walk rate. It’s hard to know the timeframe for a relatively vague diagnosis, and nerve injuries can linger for awhile or clear out pretty quickly.
Dylan Floro closed out Sunday’s game for Miami, and he should fill in for Puk moving forward, with Tanner Scott an option from the left side.

Losing A Grip
•Raisel Iglesias, ATL | RosterResource
Iglesias just hasn’t looked quite right the last couple of appearances, and while usually a couple of rough outings aren’t enough to make it into the Losing A Grip section, it’s also worth noting that Iglesias missed the first month of the season with a shoulder strain and his velocity was down on Sunday, about two ticks from where it was when he made his season debut. He’s now allowed four runs in 3.1 innings since his activation.
If Iglesias needs a reset, whether that’s on the IL or in a lower-leverage role, he could cede the job to Nick Anderson or Kirby Yates, with A.J. Minter struggling just about all season.
