Bullpen Report: May 13, 2023
The 2023 version of the Bullpen Report includes five different sections, as well as the closer chart, which can be found at the bottom of the page.
We will always include a link to the full Closer Depth Chart at the bottom of the Bullpen Report each day. It’s also accessible from the RosterResource drop-down menu and from any RosterResource page. Please let us know what you think.

Notable Workloads
•Emmanuel Clase, CLE: 27 pitches on Friday. | RosterResource
Trevor Stephan is the likeliest to close on Saturday; James Karinchak threw 28 pitches Friday so he’ll probably be down.
•Michael King, NYY: 27 pitches on Friday. | RosterResource
Co-closers Ian Hamilton, Wandy Peralta, and Clay Holmes should all be available Saturday.
•Zach Jackson, OAK: 32 pitches on Friday. | RosterResource
Sam Moll, Spencer Patton, or Richard Lovelady could close on Saturday.
•David Robertson, NYM: 40 pitches on Friday. | RosterResource
Co-closer Adam Ottavino only threw 14 pitches on Friday so he should be good to go Saturday.
•Craig Kimbrel, PHI: Three of the last four days; 21 pitches on Friday. | RosterResource
Seranthony Domínguez has also pitched three of four, which could leave Gregory Soto, Matt Strahm, or Connor Brogdon to close Saturday.
•Ryan Helsley, STL: 28 pitches on Friday. | RosterResource
Giovanny Gallegos is likely to fill in for Helsley on Saturday if needed.

Outlier Saves
•Miguel Castro, ARI | RosterResource
The Snakes flipped things around on Friday, using Andrew Chafin in the eighth with some lefties due up before letting Castro get the last two outs after Chafin got the first out of the ninth. Castro gave up a hit but no runs and was able to keep Arizona’s lead to two runs for his second save of the season. Chafin started out the season quite strong but has struggled of late, whereas Castro has pitched better overall, so this might be a burgeoning Committee Clarity situation.
•Drew Smith, NYM | RosterResource
As mentioned in the Notable Workloads section above, David Robertson threw 40 pitches on Friday, having entered in the top of the eighth for what became a two-inning save chance. He couldn’t quite finish it off, however, and was probably running on fumes after recording five outs but also walking a couple. Co-closer Adam Ottavino had already pitched the seventh, so Smith was brought in to get the final out, which he did with a four-pitch strikeout. It was his first career save and lowered his season ERA to 1.88.
