JD15: How does your valuation of Conforto change after last week’s injury in a dynasty league?

Brad Johnson: The nice thing about dynasty is that a player’s value isn’t greatly affected by an injury unless it changes his skill level

Brad Johnson: For a pitcher, Conforto’s injury would be devastating. For a hitter, probably more annoying than ruinous

Brad Johnson: If you’re buying or selling Conforto, I’d be looking at around 90-95% of his pre-injury value.

Kevin: First things first: is Rhys Lightning a top 10 1B in 2018? top 5?

Brad Johnson: It’s really hard to crack the top 5 1B. He could finish the year with 30 HR and I’d STILL be hesitant to go that far

Brad Johnson: The issue is the small sample. How often do we see a guy dominate before struggling awhile

Brad Johnson: They usually rebound, like Alex Bregman, but the first half slump is enough to mar his value

Busted Pinata: Who are your favorite buy low hitters and pitchers in dynasty leagues this offseason?

Brad Johnson: Here’s my catch all response for now – I’m not ready to answer this. I have some ideas, but I’d like to take the time to actually research

JD15: Start Godley (LAD) and/or Fiers (TEX) tonight?

Brad Johnson: Godley’s done fine against the Dodgers

Wacha Want: Next 3 starts at SF, at SD and hosting PIT. Can I be trusted to get thru 5 innings?

Brad Johnson: I think so, that’s usually around when it gets hairy for Wacha

Tyler: Who is your mid-career, down season stash for dynasty leagues this offseason? Think less along the lines of Trevor Story and more like Matt Wieters and Garret Richards

Brad Johnson: Tyler Chatwood is a guy I like, but that’s more of a Charlie Morton type pick

Brad Johnson: Most of the examples coming to mind are older guys like Hunter Pence. Players I think have some dead cat bounce left in the tank

Rapha: Does Jack Flaherty get a start in the bigs this season, or what?

Brad Johnson: Seems likely to me, but also not guaranteed.

Bleh: Why can’t all my players play at their best and my pitchers get wins and saves and everything be great?

Brad Johnson: I know what you mean. I have a league where I’m hopelessly in fifth place.

Oh: With Cespedes out for the year, are the Mets now the best team to stream pitchers against?

weezy: Thoughts on Conforto’s keeper prospects giving his injury? Seems really serious. Worth keeping in a 12 team, keep 10 league?

Brad Johnson: That format seems too shallow to keep Conforto

Brad Johnson: His stock is incorrectly down because he played through injury for two months. He’s healthy, mashing, and likely to play a bunch down the stretch

Oddball Herrera: 12 team mixed league – has A.J. Pollock fallen to replacement level?  Seems like you might even squeeze out more from a guy like Howie Kendrick at this point.

Brad Johnson: Depending on your stolen base needs, maybe. The power is certainly disappointing

GK: Podhorzer was skeptical that Corbin would be able to continue leaning on his slider so much. Does his recent stretch of dominance seem sustainable ROS and next year?

Brad Johnson: But I have trouble reading Corbin. I couldn’t figure out why he sucked and now I don’t understand why it’s stopped

Brad Johnson: The slider doesn’t smell like it fully answers the question

neil: How should I value Urias in dynasty?  Gone from untouchable to ____?

Brad Johnson: Pitchers are never untouchable

Brad Johnson: You still want a monster hitter for him

Brad Johnson: At this point, you’re stuck with him in all likelihood

E: Starlin Castro a top 100 bat rest of the season?

Brad Johnson: Nah. Too many good hitters

Brad Johnson: Usually, that means I see them as not good enough to use and not bad enough to exploit

Brad Johnson: Maybe one of those crappy 6 IP, 3 R, QS type outings

Petr: Choose one for the dynasty long-haul: Walker Buehler or Jack Flaherty.

Brad Johnson: Buehler is certainly the industry choice

Brad Johnson: I haven’t researched either of them enough to gainsay the industry

Brad Johnson: I tend to pay less attention to players I have no chance to own. I had a shot at Flaherty 2 years ago, and I think Buehler’s been rostered since he was an amateur (in my main dynasty)

E: Expect anything from Justin Boar ROS?

Brad Johnson: Moar Boar!

Brad Johnson: Uh, not really.

Moltar: Was out of the country for much of august, but had a h2h playoffs spot locked up. Now that I’m back, egads is Segura struggling. He’d probably miss the keeper cut, should I drop him for a short-term upgrade at 2B? In general, should I be aggressive with cutting underperforming non-keepers going in to the playoffs?

Brad Johnson: You should be aggressive, although I’d have to see your options before sanctioning a Segura cut

Brad Johnson: chances are, they aren’t better

Tim: Someone dropped Aroldis Chapman in my (admittedly shallow) league. Would you pick him up or is he broken for the year? Bad ratios and no saves anymore. Would need to drop Jimmy Nelson, Ryu or Danny Salazar.

Brad Johnson: Could risk dropping Salazar or Ryu in a shallow format

Brad Johnson: What do you need from Chapman though?

Brad Johnson: Are you chasing saves or just reacting to an “ooh shiny”

Brad Johnson: If you don’t need saves or elite ratios, you might as well keep the SP

Brad Johnson: Barnes has been a top 15 C without starting. I like that. He tends to get soft matchups. Chirinos is fine if you prefer an every day guy

Rick: Is Rhys Hoskins going to lose playing time with Herrera and Altherr coming back to the OF on Friday? Tommy Joseph is still their #1 guy at 1B (for some reason)

Brad Johnson: No

Brad Johnson: Joseph is getting a last chance to do SOMETHING

Brad Johnson: he is a streaky sort of hitter so there’s a chance he earns more playing time in September

Brad Johnson: I was talking with Matt Winkleman on twitter today about their rotation for 2018. I bet they try to sell Joseph for a older rental like J.A. Happ

Brad Johnson: Well, Treinen and Greene actually have the job. I’d bet Parker gets fewer than 1.5 saves ROS

CubFan: I’ve got Greg Bird in a 12 team AL only H2H keeper league at $1 but has to be signed to a contract. Is he worth signing $6 for 1 year, $11 for 2 years?

Brad Johnson: You have to cut him after the one year?

Brad Johnson: I think I’d take a stab at the $6 and kick myself later

HappyFunBall: Andrew Miller is fantasy useless now, even in a league where middle relievers are worthwhile, yes? Even if he heals soon CLE is going to keep him in bubble wrap until the playoffs?

Brad Johnson: Injuries are always a concern, but also semi-unpredictable. fwiw, I expect Miggy to age fantastically well too as a hitter. I think this will be an outlier

Brad Johnson: I don’t treat them any differently than the regular season. I swear by dominating the pitching categories. Most people seem to prefer going the other way, which may be why I have success with pitchers

Brad Johnson: I spent like $230 of my $260 budget on pitching. Have second place locked up

Brad Johnson: His skill set is common

Brad Johnson: I mean, he’s a top 120 guy, sure

Brad Johnson: but is he definitely a top 10 guy on most rosters…that’s less certain

Brad Johnson: I have several 12 team leagues where Conforto would have been a no-brain cut

Brad Johnson: And a couple where he’d be one of the 5 best on my roster

RMR: What’s your read on Ian Happ as a keeper in a keep forever with OBP?  I love the pop and he looks like he could chip in 12-15 steals over a full season, but I’m unsure about the PT and the whiff rate is prodigious.

Brad Johnson: I think there’s another gear in there. He was promoted rather aggressively

RMR: I’m thinking about trading Severino in the offseason as I kind of get the feeling that HRs are always going to be a problem for him even with the great velocity and slider.  Am I crazy?

Brad Johnson: No, not crazy

Brad Johnson: But make sure you get a haul

Brad Johnson: even with the HR, he’s still a quality arm

Yu: Does that mean you like Game of Thrones, Brad? Books more than show, I’d imagine.

Brad Johnson: Well, scouts tell me Rosario is better. I don’t see it in the stat line so I’ll just have to believe them for now

AL only, 10-team auction draft, 14 keepers, one of these 5 would’ve been the last keeper. Agree with my push move? We can only keep players on the 25 man at the time of the auction.
