Brad Johnson Baseball Chat: 8/29/2017

Here is today’s transcript in which the chatters discovered my non-baseball interests.

4:00

Brad Johnson: Ahoy there!

4:00

Jim: Hi Brad!

4:01

Brad Johnson: With most fantasy trade deadlines slipping past last week, we’re getting down the the stretch run

4:01

Brad Johnson: I’d like to avoid questions about keepers today. Please solve those at a more appropriate time. Dynasty topics are fair game though, like…

4:01

JD15: How does your valuation of Conforto change after last week’s injury in a dynasty league?

4:02

Brad Johnson: The nice thing about dynasty is that a player’s value isn’t greatly affected by an injury unless it changes his skill level

4:02

Brad Johnson: For a pitcher, Conforto’s injury would be devastating. For a hitter, probably more annoying than ruinous

4:03

Brad Johnson: If you’re buying or selling Conforto, I’d be looking at around 90-95% of his pre-injury value.

4:03

Kevin: First things first: is Rhys Lightning a top 10 1B in 2018? top 5?

4:03

Brad Johnson: It’s really hard to crack the top 5 1B. He could finish the year with 30 HR and I’d STILL be hesitant to go that far

4:04

Brad Johnson: The issue is the small sample. How often do we see a guy dominate before struggling awhile

4:04

Brad Johnson: They usually rebound, like Alex Bregman, but the first half slump is enough to mar his value

4:05

Busted Pinata: Who are your favorite buy low hitters and pitchers in dynasty leagues this offseason?

4:06

Brad Johnson: Here’s my catch all response for now – I’m not ready to answer this. I have some ideas, but I’d like to take the time to actually research

4:06

Brad Johnson: My expected valuations often do not match reality

4:06

JD15: Start Godley (LAD) and/or Fiers (TEX) tonight?

4:06

Brad Johnson: Godley’s done fine against the Dodgers

4:06

Wacha Want: Next 3 starts at SF, at SD and hosting PIT. Can I be trusted to get thru 5 innings?

4:07

Brad Johnson: I think so, that’s usually around when it gets hairy for Wacha

4:07

Tyler: Who is your mid-career, down season stash for dynasty leagues this offseason? Think less along the lines of Trevor Story and more like Matt Wieters and Garret Richards

4:07

Brad Johnson: Tyler Chatwood is a guy I like, but that’s more of a Charlie Morton type pick

4:08

Brad Johnson: Most of the examples coming to mind are older guys like Hunter Pence. Players I think have some dead cat bounce left in the tank

4:08

Rapha: Does Jack Flaherty get a start in the bigs this season, or what?

4:08

Brad Johnson: Seems likely to me, but also not guaranteed.

4:08

Bleh: Why can’t all my players play at their best and my pitchers get wins and saves and everything be great?

4:09

Brad Johnson: I know what you mean. I have a league where I’m hopelessly in fifth place.

4:09

Oh: With Cespedes out for the year, are the Mets now the best team to stream pitchers against?

4:09

Brad Johnson: Definitely one of the top teams to target

4:09

weezy: Thoughts on Conforto’s keeper prospects giving his injury? Seems really serious. Worth keeping in a 12 team, keep 10 league?

4:09

Brad Johnson: That format seems too shallow to keep Conforto

4:09

Brad Johnson: Like he was already going to be fringy

4:09

Greg Bird: Am I worth keeping ROS through playoffs?

4:10

Brad Johnson: I think so, but let’s see him play a week or two first

4:10

Brad Johnson: He looked great at Triple-A, just like he looked fantastic in Spring Training

4:10

troke: Who’s the september call-up to grab that isn’t up yet in the NL?

4:10

Brad Johnson: JP Crawford

4:11

Brad Johnson: His stock is incorrectly down because he played through injury for two months. He’s healthy, mashing, and likely to play a bunch down the stretch

4:11

Oddball Herrera: 12 team mixed league – has A.J. Pollock fallen to replacement level?  Seems like you might even squeeze out more from a guy like Howie Kendrick at this point.

4:11

Brad Johnson: Depending on your stolen base needs, maybe. The power is certainly disappointing

4:12

Brad Johnson: Still think he’s an OF3 if you’re playing a 5 OF format

4:12

weezy: I love your advanced stats in your personal league.

4:12

Brad Johnson: The site we use calculates seca too, although I think it’s wrong

4:13

Brad Johnson: This was in reference to some personal performance stats I posted yesterday. Like an asshole. But if you’re curious, here they are – http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/the-daily-grind-pointless-proof-in-a-…

4:14

Brad Johnson: I’m still answering questions from 4:01… it’s like it’s April

4:14

Don: Didi or Simmons ROS?

4:14

Brad Johnson: Simmons

4:14

Brad Johnson: I can’t figure out why Didi isn’t terrible

4:14

Brad Johnson: I mean, I think the answer is Yankee Stadium

4:14

Terry: What’s Xander’s value like next year in this SS landscape?

4:14

Brad Johnson: Thankfully, we get a full offseason to debate this. Because I have no idea

4:15

Brad Johnson: My instinct is to view 2016 as the outlier

4:15

Brad Johnson: making him a sort of Elvis Andrus-quality SS

4:15

Ozzy: Good afternoon Brad. DFS Topics fair game?

4:15

Brad Johnson: Sure.

4:16

Evan: Start Tomlin week 1 of H2H playoffs vs @CWS, BAL?

4:16

Brad Johnson: That’s risky. Let’s see what he does tomorrow first.

4:16

neil: Any chance of September call ups for Robles or Acuna?  When do they become permanent fixtures in the Bigs?

4:16

Brad Johnson: Acuna doesn’t need to be on the 40-man so it seems very unlikely

4:16

Brad Johnson: I think he’s a mid-’18 call up

4:17

Brad Johnson: I don’t have a read on Robles, but he’s only just reached Double-A.

4:17

Brad Johnson: Probably a full season before he’s on a MLB roster

4:17

Isaac: Would you start Robbie Ray vs LAD in a critical H2H playoff week?

4:17

Brad Johnson: Yes

4:17

Not Mike Matheny : Tommy Pham or Dexter Fowler ROS?

4:17

Brad Johnson: Still Fowler 🙂

4:17

Brad Johnson: They’re making it interesting too

4:18

Petr: What player had the best season with the lowest JUSTIFIABLE ownership rate (because they don’t accrue any of the key counting stats)?

4:18

Brad Johnson: Lemme make a list

4:19

Brad Johnson: Shin-Soo Choo?

4:20

Brad Johnson: 27% owned, quality 5 cat performance but no standout category

4:20

Brad Johnson: Matt Joyce is 4% owned and 153 ranked in my OPS league

4:21

Brad Johnson: Lucas Duda has been widely ignored. 25 empty HR

4:21

Brad Johnson: Cesar Hernandez is a nice leadoff guy who’s only just now actually getting support from the guys behind him

4:21

Brad Johnson: there are others. Let’s move on

4:22

GK: Podhorzer was skeptical that Corbin would be able to continue leaning on his slider so much. Does his recent stretch of dominance seem sustainable ROS and next year?

4:22

Brad Johnson: Not to me

4:22

Brad Johnson: But I have trouble reading Corbin. I couldn’t figure out why he sucked and now I don’t understand why it’s stopped

4:22

Brad Johnson: The slider doesn’t smell like it fully answers the question

4:22

neil: How should I value Urias in dynasty?  Gone from untouchable to ____?

4:22

Brad Johnson: Pitchers are never untouchable

4:23

Brad Johnson: You still want a monster hitter for him

4:23

Brad Johnson: At this point, you’re stuck with him in all likelihood

4:23

Brad Johnson: or you’re selling low

4:23

E: Starlin Castro a top 100 bat rest of the season?

4:23

Brad Johnson: Nah. Too many good hitters

4:23

Brad Johnson: He’s a competent bat ROS

4:23

Hannah Hochevar: Fiers didn’t make your start or stack this morning. How do you feel about him v Texas?

4:24

Brad Johnson: Usually, that means I see them as not good enough to use and not bad enough to exploit

4:24

Brad Johnson: Maybe one of those crappy 6 IP, 3 R, QS type outings

4:24

Petr: Choose one for the dynasty long-haul: Walker Buehler or Jack Flaherty.

4:25

Brad Johnson: Buehler is certainly the industry choice

4:25

Brad Johnson: I haven’t researched either of them enough to gainsay the industry

4:26

Brad Johnson: I tend to pay less attention to players I have no chance to own. I had a shot at Flaherty 2 years ago, and I think Buehler’s been rostered since he was an amateur (in my main dynasty)

4:26

E: Expect anything from Justin Boar ROS?

4:26

Brad Johnson: Moar Boar!

4:26

Brad Johnson: Uh, not really.

4:26

Moltar: Was out of the country for much of august, but had a h2h playoffs spot locked up. Now that I’m back, egads is Segura struggling. He’d probably miss the keeper cut, should I drop him for a short-term upgrade at 2B? In general, should I be aggressive with cutting underperforming non-keepers going in to the playoffs?

4:27

Brad Johnson: You should be aggressive, although I’d have to see your options before sanctioning a Segura cut

4:27

Brad Johnson: chances are, they aren’t better

4:27

Brad Johnson: ok, I’m officially 20 minutes in the past, I’m skipping forward. Sorry folks

4:27

Brad Johnson: It is now 4:21

4:27

Badger: Keep one pitcher: Archer, Bumgarner, CMartinez, Paxton?

4:28

Brad Johnson: Whoa

4:28

Brad Johnson: Also, I said no keeper questions!

4:28

Brad Johnson: But those are some nice choices. Seems foolish to say anything other than MadBum though

4:28

seth: How many more years does Votto stay relevant as a top 12 fantasy 1B?

4:29

Brad Johnson: Like David Ortiz, until he decides to retire.

4:29

Brad Johnson: And like Ortiz, I bet he’s still mashing in his last season

4:30

Tim: Someone dropped Aroldis Chapman in my (admittedly shallow) league. Would you pick him up or is he broken for the year? Bad ratios and no saves anymore. Would need to drop Jimmy Nelson, Ryu or Danny Salazar.

4:30

Brad Johnson: Could risk dropping Salazar or Ryu in a shallow format

4:30

Brad Johnson: What do you need from Chapman though?

4:30

Brad Johnson: Are you chasing saves or just reacting to an “ooh shiny”

4:31

Brad Johnson: If you don’t need saves or elite ratios, you might as well keep the SP

4:31

HappyFunBall: Posey-less for a week or two.  Thoughts on Chirinos, Barnes, or Ramos?

4:32

Brad Johnson: Barnes has been a top 15 C without starting. I like that. He tends to get soft matchups. Chirinos is fine if you prefer an every day guy

4:32

Rick: Is Rhys Hoskins going to lose playing time with Herrera and Altherr coming back to the OF on Friday? Tommy Joseph is still their #1 guy at 1B (for some reason)

4:32

Brad Johnson: No

4:32

Brad Johnson: Joseph is getting a last chance to do SOMETHING

4:32

Brad Johnson: he is a streaky sort of hitter so there’s a chance he earns more playing time in September

4:33

Brad Johnson: I was talking with Matt Winkleman on twitter today about their rotation for 2018. I bet they try to sell Joseph for a older rental like J.A. Happ

4:33

Brad Johnson: That’s just an example

4:33

Brad Johnson: Either way, Hoskins plays

4:34

CubFan: Is Marwin Gonzalez an everyday player in 2018? If so, where does he play…..super UT ala Zobrist? And is 2017 repeatable?

4:34

Brad Johnson: This feels like a career year to me

4:34

Brad Johnson: But he doesn’t need to play at this level to be a valuable 5 days a week utility guy

4:35

Brad Johnson: Let’s say he’s similar next year except with 20 HR/650 PA

4:35

CubFan: Who do the O’s start at SS in 2018…..Beckham, Hardy, FA?

4:35

Brad Johnson: Beckham

4:35

Matthew: Who are your Top 5 favorite teams to stream pitchers against?

4:35

Brad Johnson: Well, Padres and Mets are the two gimmes

4:35

Brad Johnson: I like to target the Giants at AT&T even though they don’t K a lot

4:36

Brad Johnson: The Brewers when I’m feeling cheeky

4:36

Brad Johnson: So many K’s but also very explosive

4:36

Brad Johnson: high risk, high reward

4:36

Brad Johnson: Used to be the Phillies for the last slot, but they’ve improved

4:36

Brad Johnson: Oakland’s pretty mediocre

4:36

Brad Johnson: I also use them as a bargain stack sometimes

4:36

Mugsy: Rank these young injury prone NL Arms in a dynasty:

Alex Wood, Jameson Taillon, Luis Castillo, Aaron Nola

4:37

Brad Johnson: Nola, Castillo, Wood, Taillon

4:37

Brad Johnson: Based on literally no inputs but my gut

4:37

Kyle: Parker, Treinen, or Greene for roto saves the rest of the way without totally destroying whip and era? Melancon and Familia available too.

4:37

Brad Johnson: Well, Treinen and Greene actually have the job. I’d bet Parker gets fewer than 1.5 saves ROS

4:38

CubFan: I’ve got Greg Bird in a 12 team AL only H2H keeper league at $1 but has to be signed to a contract. Is he worth signing $6 for 1 year, $11 for 2 years?

4:38

Brad Johnson: You have to cut him after the one year?

4:38

Brad Johnson: I think I’d take a stab at the $6 and kick myself later

4:38

HappyFunBall: Andrew Miller is fantasy useless now, even in a league where middle relievers are worthwhile, yes? Even if he heals soon CLE is going to keep him in bubble wrap until the playoffs?

4:38

Brad Johnson: Right, cut immediately

4:39

Brad Johnson: I mean, if your DL slot is open, keep him there

4:39

Brad Johnson: but I never have open DL slots

4:39

RRH: Is it crazy to drop Cano or Lamb for Tim Beckham? Beckham’s been mashing and the other two have been anemic.

4:39

Brad Johnson: Sounds pretty whacko to me

4:39

Rich: Do we like Snell now? Trust him going into playoffs next week? (He’s matched up against MIN)

4:40

Brad Johnson: To simplify, let’s just say Blake Snell is a left-handed Michael Wacha

4:40

Moltar: My Segura replacements would be Wong, C Hernandez or Kendrick more than likely.

4:40

Brad Johnson: I think you stick with Segura then

4:40

seth: following up on Votto, what makes him age so much better than Miggy or Pujols?

4:41

Brad Johnson: Injuries are always a concern, but also semi-unpredictable. fwiw, I expect Miggy to age fantastically well too as a hitter. I think this will be an outlier

4:41

Brad Johnson: The Tigers need to get him in the DH slot too

4:41

Brad Johnson: I like VMart and all, but it’s time to expunge him from the roster

4:41

false bottom: Just when you thought it had hit bedrock, Jose Reyes is starting in left field

4:41

Brad Johnson: lolMets

4:41

CubFan: Which 3 between Haniger, Seth Smith, Todd Frazier and Bird do want active ROS?

4:42

Brad Johnson: Those are all very similar assets. Depends on your needs. Smith has the best ratios but plays the least

4:42

Brad Johnson: Frazier and Bird have 12 HR upside RoS

4:42

Brad Johnson: or blackhole downside

4:43

Brad Johnson: Haniger’s probably my odd man out

4:43

Brad Johnson: very uninspiring since the initial streak

4:43

Rick: PHEW!

4:43

CubFan: yes

4:43

Brad Johnson: Good comments

4:44

Brad Johnson: Going back Rick was thankful Hoskins will keep playing. CubFan was nodding that he has to cut a player after his contract ends

4:44

#1 Yankees Fan: Why no talk about Chris Taylor as potential MVP candidate? Consistently overlooked in real life and DFS.

4:44

Brad Johnson: Not really overlooked in DFS. Consistently overpriced since May

4:44

Brad Johnson: I don’t ever have $5,200 for Chris Taylor

4:45

Brad Johnson: If I’m spending that on a player, it’s Mike Trout, Charlie Blackmon, or bust

4:45

Guest: Ariett or Santana tonight?

4:45

Brad Johnson: Kinda feeling Santana

4:45

Anthony: Arietta or Santana tonight?

4:45

Brad Johnson: Presumably the same guy

4:45

Justin Harper: Bour or Harper ROS?

4:45

Brad Johnson: Uh, shrug? Harper?

4:45

LenFuego: How could you not stream against the Royals at this point?

4:46

Brad Johnson: Yes, they’re very much the AL version of the Giants

4:46

Brad Johnson: with a few extra HR courtesy of the Moose

4:46

Dave Kingman: in a two catcher, 11 team roto $260 auction league, would you keep Sal Perez at $5 for next year? Other 4th keeper options are Lynn @ $3, Dozier @ $11, M. Brantly @ $7.

4:46

Brad Johnson: Well, that Perez value is lovely, but I think I’d keep Dozier

4:47

NYY: Didi or Gleybar,5 year keeper?

4:47

Brad Johnson: Didi the first 2 years, Gleyber the next 3

4:47

Guest: Shopping for a spare reliever for the playoffs. Melancon, Ziegler, Treinen, Minaya, or McGee? Saves + holds. Have Giles/Diaz/Bearclaw already

4:47

Brad Johnson: I like Treinen and Melancon

4:47

LenFuego: What is your source for saying JP Crawford played with an injury?  Sounds like a wishful rationalization to me.  (And he is not mashing right now – 3 singles in his last 29 ABs.)

4:48

Brad Johnson: Well, his numbers since the injury are quite good. It was one of those things that just became known one day. Either he or the team confirmed

4:48

Brad Johnson: I think it was Joe Jordan who confirmed

4:49

Brad Johnson: Could be wrong

4:49

LenFuego: Any call-ups who are likely to steal a bunch of bases in September?

4:49

Brad Johnson: Mallex Smith if he plays

4:49

Mark: the 2 seed in my H2H 10 team mixed just dropped Tommy Pham. You dropping E. Rosario, Fowler, or Domingo Santana for him? Im the 4 seed in the playoffs

4:49

Brad Johnson: Rosario

4:49

Brad Johnson: Then again… how do you feel about the rest of your roster?

4:50

Brad Johnson: Using Pham and Fowler increases your variance. Do you need to go big or play it safe?

4:50

Mets Fan: Which alcohol do you like ROS? Tequilla, Gin, Vodka, or Rubbing Alcohol?

4:50

Brad Johnson: Rubbing for me

4:50

Brad Johnson: I’m a big fan of the wood grains

4:50

Brad Johnson: Especially while chatting mid-afternoon

4:51

Brad Johnson: Should we get Eno in here to talk about what to look for?

4:51

Brad Johnson:

Should we get Eno in here?

No (11.1% | 3 votes)
Nah (88.8% | 24 votes)

Total Votes: 27
4:51

Sonny Jim: How does Correa, Sano, Bradley Jr., Holiday, & Pedroia, rank among the great AL- only roster DL collections?   Feels like I have accomplished something here.

4:52

Brad Johnson: Well… two of those were at least very predictable

4:52

Brad Johnson: You at least need Yu Darvish if you’re going to complain

4:52

Luke: If Weaver can turn in another strong outing tonight do you think he will stick in the Cards rotation ROS? If he does, what do you expect out of him?

4:52

Brad Johnson: 3.75 ERA. Mix of good outings and short duds

4:52

Brad Johnson: Pretty good chance he sticks imo, but I haven’t audited their roster recently

4:53

Brad Johnson: just saying that based on talent

4:53

toki: What’s the outlook on Longo?  Is he droppable in a 10 teamer?  I have Donaldson, Machado, Bregman, and Devers to cover 3rd? Or should I be looking to trade him?

4:53

Brad Johnson: Drop

4:53

Brad Johnson: You’ll find a better player on waivers than your leaguemates will offer

4:54

Brad Johnson: I tried to trade Tommy Joseph for a warm body OFer in early August and wound up finding Curtis Granderson instead

4:54

Brad’s Hobbies?: Brad – Eno has beer, Paul has The Show – what’s your hobby we can chat about instead of fantasy baseball?

4:54

Brad Johnson: Fantasy fiction’s my side game

4:55

Brad Johnson: Also, I still actually play baseball – something nearly all of my colleagues stopped doing 20 years ago

4:55

Pete: With Harper out, I have a hole to fill in RF. Who is the lesser evil: CarGo, Jarrett Parker or Alex Presley?

4:55

Brad Johnson: God smite these minions of Hades!

4:55

Brad Johnson: I think I mixed my mythos there…

4:55

Brad Johnson: Stream

4:55

Brad Johnson: or Matt Joyce

4:55

Bo: Okay to drop James Paxton in a 12-team H2H mixed, keep 4 forever? Hasn’t thrown off a mound yet so can’t imagine he’s good for more than two more starts.

4:56

Brad Johnson: Unless you want him to be a keeper, probably fine

4:56

Brad Johnson: He’s fringy as a top 48 asset

4:56

Mugsy: Hoskins/Conforto/McCutchen for the next 3 years?

Now that Conforto is injured

4:56

Brad Johnson: Hoskins

4:56

Brad Johnson: I’m all in on Hoskins. Was last week and still am this week

4:56

seth: trying to pick 3 closers to run with the rest of the year, who do you leave out of Osuna, Rivero, Iglesias, and Allen…try to rotate them for 7 game non-coors weeks?

4:56

Brad Johnson: Rotate

4:57

Brad Johnson: Those are all top 10 closers

4:57

Guest: Is G. Holland toast for the ROS? Great story, but wow, he appears to have hit the wall hard.

4:57

Brad Johnson: I think so

4:57

Keith Hernandez: Do you like Cobb against the Royals tonight?  Or is this the night they break the scoreless streak and explode for a gazillion runs?

4:57

Brad Johnson: I like

4:57

Brad Johnson: very much

4:57

CubFan: Would you keep Chapman active ROS in a 12 team AL only 5×5 or am I better off placing a DL guy there and take zeros in the counting stats.? ….at least the DL guy won’t hurt my ratios.

4:57

Brad Johnson: I still believe in Chapman

4:58

Brad Johnson: That actually wasn’t it

4:58

Brad Johnson: My dog is trying to tell me something. I’ll come back for a few more minutes after I figure out what he wants

5:00

Not Mike Matheny: Mark, if you drop Rosario and pick up Pham, you’ll have both Fowler and Pham on your roster – how will you be able to choose?? Managing is really hard you guys

5:00

Catt Marpenter: Can you talk about some H2H playoff strategies you’ve employed? I’m a contender in my 16 team league.

5:01

Brad Johnson: I don’t treat them any differently than the regular season. I swear by dominating the pitching categories. Most people seem to prefer going the other way, which may be why I have success with pitchers

5:01

Brad Johnson: I spent like $230 of my $260 budget on pitching. Have second place locked up

5:02

Luis Castillo: what kind of numbers do you see for Luis Castillo next year?

5:02

Brad Johnson: Arabian numerals

5:02

Git Dat: Orlando Arcia or JP Crawford long term (OBP league)

5:02

Brad Johnson: JPC

5:02

Adam: Do you think NYY could make a run for World Series if they get in playoffs with that bullpen and offense?

5:02

Brad Johnson: I think any team can make noise once they actually make the playoffs

5:02

toki: Tell me about Wilmer Difo, please

5:03

Brad Johnson: He’s a fine utility player with just a hint of upside. No need to get excited for fantasy purposes. Deep league streamable

5:03

E: You still play? Wood bat league?

5:03

Brad Johnson: Yep, I had a great season by adopting the same mechanical changes everybody in the majors now use

5:03

Anthony: So, then you have to acknowledge that Tad Williams’ “Memory, Sorrow & Thorn” is the best series ever, right? At least highly underrated.

5:04

Brad Johnson: I’ll put it on my list

5:04

Brad Johnson: I’ve spent most of the summer re-reading the Malazan Book of the Fallen

5:04

Brad Johnson: which is the best complete series

5:04

Brad Johnson: that I’ve read

5:04

#1 Yankees Fan: Phillies game postponed tonight. Anddddddddd now it’s a 13 game slate.

5:05

Brad Johnson: fyi

5:05

LenFuego: Any chance Jonathan Villar becomes an effective starter again next year (or ever)?

5:05

Brad Johnson: There is a chance

5:05

LenFuego: Right, that was not it … Joe Jordan did say “He fought some things health-wise during the first half of the summer, and that may have been a part of it.”  http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phillies/jp-crawford-phillies-pros… kind of vaguely excuse-y to me.

5:05

Brad Johnson: I distinctly recall a reference to a wrist injury too

5:05

Moltar: Drop Wil Myers for Bell? Or any other warm body to stick at util?

5:05

Brad Johnson: Can do unless you need the SB

5:05

Molten Wong: Need to stream an OF for a couple days. Werth or Schebler?

5:06

Brad Johnson: Either or is fine

5:06

Moltar: How do you feel about heading in to the h2h playoffs with you entire 5 man bench being pitchers? Wire is flush with hitters and barren with arms

5:06

Brad Johnson: Seems fine to me then

5:06

E: Do you dabble in the other fantasy sports?

5:06

Brad Johnson: Nope. I’m a baseball puritan

5:06

Brad Johnson: I spend the offseason pretending people on twitter are misspelling baseball names

5:06

Zach: Leiter vs ATL or Perdomo vs SF tonight as a streamer in points league playoffs?

5:07

Brad Johnson: Both are pretty uninspiring. And startable

5:07

Brad Johnson: some risk, not much reward

5:07

Brad Johnson: QS/W are possible

5:07

RMR: How would you compare Hoskins and Miggy as keepers in a keep forever with OBP?  Obviously Hoskins isn’t this good, but I’m hesitating to just cut Miggy loose after a down year as he’s rebounded before and I could see doing it again.

5:07

Brad Johnson: Oh.

5:07

Brad Johnson: That’s a tough spot to be in. Let’s wait

Michael Conforto: weezy 4:09 Thoughts on Conforto’s keeper prospects giving his injury? Seems really serious. Worth keeping in a 12 team, keep 10 league?
Brad Johnson 4:09 That format seems too shallow to keep Conforto Like he was already going to be fringy…………………………..Are you really saying Conforto is not keepable as a top 120 player.  Insane or did you misread that question???

5:08

Brad Johnson: His skill set is common

5:09

Brad Johnson: I mean, he’s a top 120 guy, sure

5:09

Brad Johnson: but is he definitely a top 10 guy on most rosters…that’s less certain

5:09

Brad Johnson: I have several 12 team leagues where Conforto would have been a no-brain cut

5:10

Brad Johnson: And a couple where he’d be one of the 5 best on my roster

5:10

RMR: What’s your read on Ian Happ as a keeper in a keep forever with OBP?  I love the pop and he looks like he could chip in 12-15 steals over a full season, but I’m unsure about the PT and the whiff rate is prodigious.

5:10

Brad Johnson: I think there’s another gear in there. He was promoted rather aggressively

5:10

RMR: I’m thinking about trading Severino in the offseason as I kind of get the feeling that HRs are always going to be a problem for him even with the great velocity and slider.  Am I crazy?

5:10

Brad Johnson: No, not crazy

5:11

Brad Johnson: But make sure you get a haul

5:11

Brad Johnson: even with the HR, he’s still a quality arm

5:11

Yu: Does that mean you like Game of Thrones, Brad? Books more than show, I’d imagine.

5:11

Brad Johnson: Yea, the books are better, when are they not?

5:11

Brad Johnson: I started reading the first one about half a year before HBO announced the series

5:12

Brad Johnson: I don’t know how anybody watches that shit without having read the books

5:12

Brad Johnson: all of the characters look the same

5:12

toki: Edwin Diaz streamable?

5:12

toki: Edwin jackson Streamable

5:12

Brad Johnson: One of those

5:12

Brad Johnson: Time to wrap it up

5:12

Brad Johnson: Also, I’m still leery of Jackson. Has to be a soft matchup

5:12

Molten Wong: Well that’s not helpful. I know either Werth or Schebler would be fine. That’s why I’m looking at them.

5:12

Brad Johnson: 🙂

5:12

Brad Johnson: It’s streaming. It’s all about the matchup

5:13

Hughes Miskate: Matt Carpenter. Name recognition the main thing keeping his ownership up?

5:13

Brad Johnson: I think it’s mostly the potential for 10 HR in 15 games

5:13

Molten Wong: FYI I’m with SaberSim on Matt Moore’s nuts tonight. Had Samardzija yesterday. Back to back shutouts. Count on it

5:13

Brad Johnson: Good luck

5:13

Ricky: Turner start or sit  tonight weather permitting?

5:13

Brad Johnson: Go ahead and play him

5:13

Larry Biggersby: Any interest in Miguel Montero, 2 catcher al only league?

5:13

Brad Johnson: Sure, should be rostered

5:13

Oddball Herrera: You like the malazan books?  I started reading them but dropped it about halfway through the first one (I adore wheel of time, so it wasn’t an attention span issue), is book one pretty representative?

5:14

Brad Johnson: It’s the worst of the 10 (although still above average fantasy fiction)

5:14

Brad Johnson: I don’t like WoT until Sanderson takes over

5:14

Brad Johnson: had to grind through a bunch of those late-Jordan books

5:15

Brad Johnson: Sanderson’s incredible but also a little too clean

5:15

LenFuego: Would you take even 10-1 odds that George R.R. Martin ever finishes the GoT book series?

5:15

Brad Johnson: No

5:15

E: The only way I was able to follow Game of Thrones was to read re-caps on online where people who have read the books would explain who is who and expand on details from the books.

5:15

neil: In dynasty: Ahmend Rosario or JP Crawford?

5:16

Brad Johnson: Well, scouts tell me Rosario is better. I don’t see it in the stat line so I’ll just have to believe them for now

5:16

Mark: Deadline trade: I’m in first, had to do a defensive trade (focus AVG, W and in particular S) to hold off challenger: his Beltre, Verlander, Allen and Belisle for my Faria, Haniger, Honeywell, Calhoun and Meija. AL only, 10-team auction draft, 14 keepers, one of these 5 would’ve been the last keeper. Agree with my push move? We can only keep players on the 25 man at the time of the auction.

5:17

Brad Johnson: That’s practically no downside for you

5:17

Brad Johnson: You basically traded some lotto tickets for several must-keeps

5:17

Brad Johnson: Good bye cruel chatters
