Brad Johnson Baseball Chat: 4/18/2018

We chatted about a number of topics. Now I’m sleepy. Here’s a transcript. Time for a siesta.

4:00

Brad Johnson: Hey folks, let’s get started.

4:01

Brad Johnson: Did anyone else see that Marlins Man found John Coppalella working at the Marlins Teamco office?

4:01

Kaush: Hey Brad! I want to sell high on Lucchesi and/or Porcello. Who are some good buy low SP’s to target? Or do you think I should just keep them? Thanks!

4:02

Brad Johnson: I have a feeling you’re just not going to find the kinds of players you’ll want to buy. Passable closers or 3-category batters make sense

4:02

Brad Johnson: Thinking like Neris or Yonder

4:03

Brad Johnson: Not very exciting, I know.

4:03

Kyle: Franchy!

4:03

Brad Johnson: Franchy!

4:03

Brad Johnson: Contact is going to be a serious issue

4:03

Brad Johnson: Kind of like a more athletic Avi Garcia

4:03

jd: Start Nick Pivetta today? He’s looked awesome so far but that braves offense has me iffy

4:03

Brad Johnson: The Braves offense?

4:04

Brad Johnson: You mean Freddie Freeman?

4:04

Brad Johnson: Yea, you can start Pivetta. It’s not foolproof, but it’s a pretty decent and even matchup.

4:04

Jimmy: Would you drop Inciarte for Mallex Smith? OBP, SB, R, HR, and RBI are the offensive categories.

4:05

Brad Johnson: Probably not. They’re pretty similar if Mallex plays well.

4:05

Brad Johnson: and that’s not a small if

4:05

Brad Johnson: I do REALLY like Mallex, but I expect some inconsistency

4:05

Anthony: Does Gallo hit 50 HRs this year?

4:05

Brad Johnson: Possibly

4:05

Brad Johnson: Definitely 40

4:05

Adam: Are you starting McCullers and Pivetta tonight?

4:05

Brad Johnson: Yes

4:06

Brad Johnson: Though my first draft lineup didn’t have room for both so I went Wheeler instead of Pivetta. https://www.patreon.com/posts/18241684 (patron-only)

4:06

yojiveself: I know its only April, but I was sorta expecting Matt Olson to be doing what Gallo is doing.  I guess we have to believe the projections (roughly 30hrs)?

4:07

Brad Johnson: Olson’s kind of crazy so far

4:07

Brad Johnson: Lost a ton of fly balls and pulled contact which was his bread and butter last year.

4:07

Brad Johnson: Still plenty of hard contact. I think it all regresses back towards pull- and fly-heavy

4:07

Brad Johnson: Worried about his Gallo-ian whiff rates

4:08

RyutheDay: Best “buy low” SP, McCullers, Quintana, or Archer?

4:08

Brad Johnson: McCullers

4:08

Brad Johnson: Looks 100% ok

4:08

Fool me once: What are your thoughts on Tyson Ross?  He shows as adequate from time to time, but we’ve been burned before

4:08

Brad Johnson: The short version – best case scenario is he’s something like peak Ross. And I don’t think peak Ross plays well in the 2018 run environment

4:09

Brad Johnson: He was a minus fastball, plus slider guy. Back then, it was just Ross and a handful of relievers who threw a billion sliders

4:09

Brad Johnson: Now everyone is doing it

4:09

Brad Johnson: And hitters have adjusted

4:09

JD: Corbin or Morton ROS?

4:09

Brad Johnson: I’ll take Morton. Like ’em both

4:10

TJ: Brad, I need to activate Realmuto off the DL. Candidates to drop are Josh Fields, Hirano, Jacob Barnes, $6 Avisail Garcia, $5 Dyson, and $6 Derek Fisher. 16 team 5×5 where SB & SV’s are scarce. With Marisnick scuffling, will Fisher start seeing AB’s? Is Barnes no longer a possibility for SV’s? Is Boxberger going to blow up soon? Is Kenley still looking sketchy? These are the things I am pondering!! Thx

4:10

Brad Johnson: Hirano is probably the guy I cut

4:10

Brad Johnson: Kenley’s looking good enough too

4:10

Brad Johnson: I’d hang onto Barnes and the bats

4:11

Kyle: What do you make of Joey Votto in keeper leagues? It’s an OPS league where we keep 10 MLB guys and 3 MiLB guys.

4:11

Brad Johnson: It’s about time to convert him into a younger stud. Might have to wait for him to go nuts first. You might as well benefit some too.

4:12

Hanley back to being Manly: Are you a little more optimistic or am I still shi**in’ you?

4:12

Brad Johnson: I mean, are we going to get a full season of this?

4:12

Brad Johnson: No. He’s already been banged up once or twice.

4:13

Brad Johnson: I still like fully healthy Hanley, but that’s a rare beast to catch

4:13

edwin encarnacion: Starting to get some Jose Bautista 2017 vibes here, and I don’t like them one bit.  Too early to panic?

4:14

Brad Johnson: I’ve been waiting for the bottom to fall out since before last season. Was one of my bold predictions. I think he’ll abruptly cliff dive. That said, I’m still buying if his owner is panicking.

4:14

Andy: Any pitchers with a bad start i should go after?

4:14

Brad Johnson: McCullers is the most obvious.

4:14

Darwin Dooley: Matt Davidson droppable in 14 team OBP league?

4:14

Brad Johnson: Yes

4:15

Brad Johnson: Though he probably should be owned by somebody

4:15

Brad Johnson: assuming it’s a CI and/or 2 UTIL league

4:15

Biggy: Pick a side, dammit!  Hand and Yelich or Jose Ramirez and Godley.

4:15

Brad Johnson: I’ll take Ramirez

4:15

leylandland: Buying Villanueva’s start? Him or Pujols ROS?

4:16

Brad Johnson: I’ll buy him over Pujols

4:16

Brad Johnson: That’s different than buying the start though

4:16

Brad Johnson: Pujols is such a dud now

4:17

Brad Johnson: I worry Villanueva is kind of a fresh new Schimpf

4:17

Brad Johnson: He’ll definitely continue to hit home runs. I’m not sure he’ll hit much of anything else.

4:17

Brad Johnson: Definitely worth stashing in 12 team and deeper

4:17

Brad Johnson: Think I have 4 shares.

4:17

Biggy: Xander a good guy for a trade for Albies?  Fair?

4:18

Brad Johnson: redraft, sure. dynasty, sure.

4:18

John Olerud: Not naming names, but some “experts” in other venues have started to suggest dropping Michael Fulmer for the some of the latest SSS phenoms, including Lucchesi. Seems a bit short-sighted, no? I mean, I understand Fulmer’s K limitations and the potential lack of wins on a bad team. But still, he’s only 25, has been very successful for a good chunk of innings, and still seems to have some untapped upside. Buy low opportunity?

4:18

Brad Johnson: You’re not dropping Fulmer in anything deeper than 10 team

4:18

Raji: Got offered gohara for pivetta in deeper league keeper… should i accept?

4:18

Brad Johnson: I wouldn’t.

4:19

Slamboni: 10 tm AL only roto. With Bird out, my starting 1B is Danny Valencia. Should I trade Faria for Hanley? I believe Hanley only needs 1 more start to be 1B eligibile

4:19

Brad Johnson: Valencia should play regularly for the next week. That said, Faria for Hanley seems like a fine valuation

4:20

Andy: is matt chapman’s start creating a believers/nonbelievers line in the sand? what say you?

4:20

Brad Johnson: I believe, with the caveat that there’s some impending regression. He’s made some real improvements though.

4:20

Sandy Ravage: Aaron Sanchez for Puig in a points league? Should I or shouldn’t I?

4:21

Brad Johnson: I like Sanchez more. But I’m known for some hot takes on Puig…

4:21

Brad Johnson: you may want to ask someone else 🙂

4:21

CW: Selling Paxton in a keeper league? health worries me, but the stats are great when he’s on.

4:21

Brad Johnson: I find he’s basically unsellable for that reason

4:21

Big Tuna: I slipped into 10th place in my roto league after slow starts from my top guys (Altuve, Trea, Cruz, Donaldson). How long until my freakout about my standing is actually justifiable?

4:22

Brad Johnson: I’m in 10th in one league with Altuve, McCullers, and a few others.

4:22

Brad Johnson: Probably late-July

4:22

Brad Johnson: People worry about the standings WAY too early. It’s great to have an early lead, but you can make up a lot of ground in the middle months when everybody gets lazy

4:23

The Man With No Name: Re: Olson vs. Gallo – wOBA of .317 vs. .321 so far.  Olson IS pulling a Gallo.

4:23

Brad Johnson: I think the commenter wanted 6 HR from Olson too

4:23

Baloo: Would you take Reynaldo Lopez over either Skaggs or Mikolas?

4:23

Brad Johnson: Mikolas is my preferred of the trio

4:23

Sean: Are you confident Ryan Braun will “do his thing” this year? That is, roughly 20 HRs, double-digit steals, over .800 OPS?

4:23

Brad Johnson: Not really. I don’t like them using him at first base

4:23

Brad Johnson: Kind of like using Wil Myers in the outfield

4:24

Brad Johnson: Oh look, he’s already hurt (both of them)

4:24

Brad Johnson: Surprise!

4:24

Zuckerberg: Cut ties with Tim Beckham for Ben Zobrist?

4:24

Brad Johnson: Can do

4:24

Tick Tock: The service time clock for an extra year of control strikes tomorrow right?  We might see a few minor leaguers start to be sprinkled in shortly thereafter?

4:24

Brad Johnson: I thought it was last Friday or Saturday

4:24

Brad Johnson: the guys who are supposed to get a call are all struggling

4:25

Guest: What’s the most important sabermetics stats to follow for dfs

4:25

Brad Johnson: Probably wOBA and SIERA

4:25

Brad Johnson: If you’re looking to keep it simple

4:25

Brad Johnson: lineup role and matchups are almost more important than player quality

4:25

Spencer: Do you think Votto for Matt Chapman is fair in a keep forever?

4:26

Brad Johnson: Maybe. I feel like I want a throw in on the Votto side

4:27

Chucky : If you had better matchups, i.e. Coors Field, all RHP v a LHH OFer, etc. would you ever bench Stanton for a given week? The Ks are alarming, April notwithstanding.

4:27

Brad Johnson: It would have to be a pretty good player

4:27

Brad Johnson: like Chris Taylor or Tommy Pham good

4:27

P: I’ve got Rizzo with 2b eligibility in a keeper league. My team won’t be competitive this year. I need to shop him when he get’s hot, right?

4:27

Brad Johnson: Seems wise to me

4:28

Brad Johnson: don’t force anything though

4:28

Brad Johnson: so often I see people get nothing for their stars

4:28

charles : Traded Goldy and Dozier for Trout and Berrios. How did I do?

4:28

Brad Johnson: +1

4:28

Brad Johnson: Any time you acquire Trout, you won

4:28

Mallex Smith: O/U Mallex Smith ROS: .343 OBP, 28 SB

4:28

Brad Johnson: under under

4:28

Brad Johnson: .328 OBP/23.5 SB is my line

4:29

Moltar: Won the bidding on Chapman when Suarez went down, what are the chances I end up hanging on to Matt over Eugenio when the thumb is healed?

4:29

Brad Johnson: Should keep ’em both

4:29

marichal: Will Brandon Nimmo get enough at bats to be valuable in an NL only?

4:29

Brad Johnson: I think so

4:29

Brad Johnson: They’ll be frustratingly clumpy

4:29

Brad Johnson: At least until they realize he’s so much better than AGon

4:30

Brad Johnson: Which they seem resistant to recognize

4:30

Albert: Is Tim Anderson a viable starter in standard mixed leagues?

4:30

Brad Johnson: Yes

4:30

Andy: Have too many 3b, what type pitcher can I target with Sano?

4:30

Brad Johnson: McCullers plus a throw-in. Gerrit Cole. Justin Verlander

4:30

Brad Johnson: Just naming some Astros

4:30

Brad Johnson: non-premium aces basically

4:31

Sleeper Saves: Which RPs aren’t being heavily targeted, but are reasonably close to saves?

4:31

Brad Johnson: Somebody in Philly – complete mystery which one

4:31

Brad Johnson: Edubray Ramos, Tommy Hunter, Victor Arano, Luis Garcia

4:32

Brad Johnson: I’ll give Jim Johnson another nod as a not targeted guy adjacent to saves

4:32

Moltar: Can I be mad online for a moment about the Blue Jays shuffling their rotation? Why not start Happ today and Sanchez tomorrow? I own both and now Sanchez goes from starting at home against the Royals to starting in Yankee freakin Stadium, and it’s too late to take him out of my lineup. Argh.

4:32

Brad Johnson: I too have suffered this curse

4:33

Brad Johnson: I would have started someone else too

4:33

Brad Johnson: Probably Daniel Mengden

4:33

Todd: Howdy,  do you think Stroman turns things around?

4:33

Brad Johnson: Yes

4:33

Brad Johnson: He’s still a good real world pitcher

4:33

Brad Johnson: fantasy he’s iffy

4:34

John: What do you think of Andre Beltre?

4:34

Brad Johnson: Adrian Beltre is still a stud. Although I’m not counting on a full season.

4:34

Blake: Do you think Austin Hedges will provide any kind of value the rest of season or should I just stream catchers?

4:34

Brad Johnson: Stream in 12 or shallower

4:35

Brad Johnson: 14 team, 2C leagues is where he should be fully owned

4:35

Shrooms: Would you do Triggs or Pivetta for Ryan Zimmerman? Trying to trade a SSS pitcher for an eh bat

4:35

Brad Johnson: I don’t hate it. Might look for a better target than Zim though.

4:35

Sean: Thoughts on Addison Russell? Everyone looks good–except the results (no HRs yet, meh BABIP). But plate discipline has markedly improved and he’s hitting the ball hard. Could the long-awaited breakout be upon us?

4:35

Brad Johnson: I’m cautiously trying to buy

4:35

Brad Johnson: without success thus far

4:36

Matt: Acuna worth holding on to in a 10 team, H2H points league?  I’m in first after two weeks, and deep benches for position players since we can only roster 5 SPs and 1 closer.

4:36

Brad Johnson: Then yes

4:36

Brad Johnson: Since you have the benches

4:36

yojiveself: i did want 6 hr’s!  spot on brad!

4:36

Brad Johnson: Toldja

4:36

Catching strategy : So I refused to pay for catching on draft day which land me J.Alfaro in an 18-team league.  My backup plan was Francisco Mejia who I have stashed with the hopes of a mid-season call up.  Odds of this occurring & actually working out in my favor?

4:36

Brad Johnson: This seems fine. Kurt Suzuki out there?

4:37

Scarecrow: Drop one of Yadier Alvarez, Cristian Pache, Francis Martes, Raimel Tapia in a dynasty league (roster up to 15 minor leaguers)

4:37

Brad Johnson: Yadi or Martes. Always pitchers

4:37

Josh: Is Kurt Suzuki a must play in 12 team 1 Catcher leagues at this point?  He’s consistently hitting 5th in that lineup.

4:37

Brad Johnson: I think so

4:38

Brad Johnson: I’m a proud early adopter of new Suzuki

4:38

Brad Johnson: the changes he made last year are still evident, less some hard contact

4:38

yojiveself: do you track your DFS earnings?  are you up or down for the most part?  I’m considering doing it but feels like a scam from what I have read.

4:38

Brad Johnson: Play for fun, not to win money.

4:39

Brad Johnson: I do track my finances

4:39

Brad Johnson: I won a bunch in 2014 and I’ve outperformed the rake every year since

4:39

Brad Johnson: which is a fancy way of saying I lost money, but I would have won if the sites didn’t gouge you with 16% rakes

4:40

Brad Johnson: I’ve been playing DRAFT lately which “only” has an 11% rake. And it’s a small snake draft instead of massive salary game

4:40

Real baseball talk: A quick break from fantasy chatter, who should be worried more based on their slow starts?  Cub fans, or Dodger fans??

4:40

Brad Johnson: Cubs fans I think

4:40

Brad Johnson: The Dodgers are just so deep in every facet

4:41

Brad Johnson: They’ll make up some ground just from other teams dealing with injuries

4:41

Brad Johnson: The Cubs are deceptively shallow. They can only handle a couple guys hitting the skids before their roster turns squishy

4:41

Capt. Nemo: Is Nimmo a play in dynasty 12 teamer

4:41

Brad Johnson: Solid stash

4:42

Hotlanta: dahl, senzel, franchy, or Fisher…. shallow 12 team 5×5 league so just mostly looking for high upside

4:42

Brad Johnson: Senzel for me

4:42

bob ross: Cain, Iglesias, Chase Anderson for Bundy, Lemathieu in a dynasty league? Which side do you prefer

4:43

Brad Johnson: Pretty even to me

4:43

Brad Johnson: For redraft it would have been the Cain side

4:43

Pat: Is Dee Gordon/Nola for Stanton/Rodney an overpay? I need dingers and saves really bad and I’m fine on steals and starters…

4:43

Brad Johnson: No, it’s not

4:44

Brad Johnson: But be SURE you’re right about those needs

4:44

Brad Johnson: You won’t be able to find a Gordon or Nola later if you’re wrong

4:44

Brad Johnson: You can always grab a HR hitter and fringe closer.

4:44

Brad Johnson: Perhaps consider targeting a less elite alternative to Stanton

4:45

SF outfield: Duggar or Williamson?  Who gets the call to help their weak hitting outfield?

4:45

Brad Johnson: Both, eventually. I have no feel for their team. I basically ignore all hitters in San Fran because of the park. I’ll pick ’em up at Coors

4:45

John Olerud: So, you’re ok with dropping a Fulmer in 10-team for the likes of, say, Lucchesi, Pivetta, Folty, R. Lopez, etc? If so, please explain why if you can, and maybe which SPs you’d be okay dropping him for. I’m truly interested to understand the rationale. I mean, Fulmer has been pretty darn good for two MLB seasons now while Lucchesi, for example, has a third of a double-A season and only four MLB starts (albeit three of them impressive)  under his belt, with a #4 or 5 projection by most scouts from what I can tell. Again, I’m just curious to know the  thinking here.

4:45

Brad Johnson: Huh? No. Definitely not OK with that

4:46

Brad Johnson: Keep Fulmer. I’m ok with dropping him for a much better player, some of which are likely available in 10 team

4:46

Brad Johnson: Those guys are not better

4:46

Joe: Please tell me what the Rockies are doing with McMahon

4:47

Brad Johnson: I know everybody wants McMahon to be the sexy buy low gem of the year, but he’s never done anything to earn regular playing time

4:47

Brad Johnson: he’ll have to wait his turn

4:47

Oliver: 12 team OBP league. Hold Senzel or Drop him for any of the following (dont have any specific needs, just looking for best available): Villanueva Wheeler Hader Newcomb

4:47

Brad Johnson: Tough call. If you had needs, I’d say move on to active players

4:48

Brad Johnson: Without needs, you might as well hold the highest ceiling asset

4:48

Big Tuna: Ketel Marte rosterable in 12 tm leagues? Playable at MIF? He’s hitting 2 in that lineup.

4:48

Brad Johnson: Yea

4:48

Brad Johnson: It’s super boring production

4:48

Brad Johnson: but numbers are numbers

4:48

Ray Kinsella: M. Fulmer and B. Zimmer for C. Morton – who wins?  (12 team H2H categories).

4:48

Brad Johnson: I prefer the Fulmer side, but it’s a reasonable idea if you need to free up a slot

4:49

Mark: Is Snell trending upwards? I can’t tell if his control is back, the walks have been sporadic…

4:49

Brad Johnson: In popularity, everybody has announced his grand return

4:49

Brad Johnson: you’ve missed the boat

4:49

Brad Johnson: I’m walking alongside the bandwagon for now

4:49

Brad Johnson: wagons are pretty slow, it turns out

4:49

Sean: Leagues with K’s as an offensive category: Yay or Nay?

4:49

Brad Johnson: And what else? That’s the key

4:50

Big Tuna: Re: Phillies closer situation, is Neshek an option you’d stash on the DL now that he’s begun throwing again?

4:50

Brad Johnson: You have room on your DL for a stash? Sure.

4:50

Moltar: Kingery looks legit. What do I need to add with him to get Quintana or Darvish (same owner has both and is a phillies fan)?

4:50

Brad Johnson: A true Phillies fan would happily trade either for Kingery

4:51

Brad Johnson: He should be valued like pre-draft Byron Buxton

4:52

bob cobb: Stanton for Gerrit Cole, Juan Soto and Willy Adames

4:52

Brad Johnson: Negative

4:52

Brad Johnson: Stanton

4:52

Oliver: Hoskins running a little bit a thing or just SSS noise right now? Think he can end up with ~12 steals?

4:52

Brad Johnson: Taking advantage of teams not paying attention. He’ll cease running in a month or two when he’s nurse 3 minor injuries

4:53

Big Tuna: Who’s closer to a closer gig: Addison Reed, Joe Jimenez, Drew Steckenrider? If you could only roster two in a 12 tm, who would you chose?

4:53

Brad Johnson: I’d pick Reed and Steck. I don’t think Jimenez is much of anything.

4:54

Brad Johnson: He definitely LOOKS like a stud, but I’m just not seeing how it actually happens on the stat sheet

4:54

Brad Johnson: Steck is behind Ziegs AND Bearclaw though

4:54

Oliver: What time do you post the DG articles? Have tried to join the last couple nights but have been too late and they are always filled

4:55

Brad Johnson: 10:15am unless I’m running late

4:55

Brad Johnson: or if there is an afternoon slate, it’s up as soon as I finish

4:55

CW: Are you buying into Moncada at all in a keep forever league? Thinking about making an offer for him or should I go for the owner’s Addy russell instead?

4:55

Brad Johnson: Prefer Moncada to Russell at this point

4:55

Spencer: Greinke, Conforto, Alex Reyes for Votto in a keep forever. Who wins now and beyond?

4:55

Brad Johnson: Conforto, I think

4:56

Sean: Lucroy’s finished, right?

4:56

Brad Johnson: Sadly, yes

4:56

Guest: Drop Story for Russell? Russell is a FA..would fill a MI spot..already have Lindor for SS

4:56

Brad Johnson: Huh? Why would you drop Story?

4:56

Brad Johnson: Guy can hit .150 and still fill up the statsheet

4:57

Brad Johnson: Current fantasy slash of 7/4/9/3/.200 R/HR/RBI/SB/AVG

4:57

Pham Phavorite: Moran or McMahon?

4:57

Brad Johnson: Moran, easy

4:57

Brad Johnson: he’s playing

4:58

Sean: Are people in April really (I mean seriously) pulling off these blockbuster trades in competitive redraft leagues? I don’t see it.

4:59

Brad Johnson: Not to be rude, but the majority of leagues aren’t competitive. A typical non-industry league is like 1-2 legit owners, 6 tryhards, and some duds

4:59

Adam: Back to Suzuki – is he startable in 9 team mixed roto (1 C, OBP)? I’m beginning to think about streaming C in this format  (currently have Welington Castillo).

4:59

Brad Johnson: Streamable

4:59

CharlieO: Is J.Lowrie just on a April hot streak or a good MI for a 14 team mixer?

4:59

Brad Johnson: Lowrie was a quiet air ball revolution guy last seasn

4:59

Brad Johnson: like Suzuki

5:00

Brad Johnson: I’m on board. I even kept him in a deep dynasty.

5:00

Johnny: JP Crawford or Semien in an OBP league

5:00

Brad Johnson: Semien

5:00

Oliver: Ok with buying high on Taillon or give it some time?

5:00

Brad Johnson: With pitchers, I’m often of the opinion that it’s better to tip my hat when I miss out

5:00

Brad Johnson: I think that’s the case with Taillon

5:00

Brad Johnson: I buy the production, I’m just not sure it’s smart to buy the player

5:01

Dallas Keuche: Out of $138, what percentage do you bid on me?

5:01

Brad Johnson: 47/138

5:01

Brad Johnson: Wait

5:01

Brad Johnson: Depends entirely on the format

5:01

Brad Johnson: I was thinking a deepish 12-team setting

5:01

Brad Johnson: shallower I’d go much less

5:01

Brad Johnson: like $12

5:01

TJ: Thoughts on Derek Fisher and playing time going forward? Thx

5:02

Brad Johnson: He’s edging towards a demotion so he can play consistently

5:02

Brad Johnson: Which honestly could be the best thing to happen

5:02

Mathenaging : Dietrich or Ketel as an Odor fill in? OPS league.

5:02

Brad Johnson: Ketel or stream ’em

5:02

Pie Eaton Contest: Does Devenski get next shot at closer for Houston, or does he stay in a super utility role and Peacock leapfrogs him? Either worth a #1 waiver claim in 12 team saves+holds?

5:03

Brad Johnson: Well Peacock was ahead of him, but now it looks like Dev is back in. My guess is all three (plus Giles) glob saves for awhile until Giles is right again

5:03

knucklebear: Can I cut bait on Lewis Brinson for Mallex Smith?  (i’m in a keeper league)

5:03

Brad Johnson: Absolutely

5:03

Joe: O/u May 15th for Addison Reed taking over as closer?

5:03

Brad Johnson: over

5:04

Brad Johnson: I’m still over 50% Rodney closes all season barring injury

5:04

Brad Johnson: obviously injury is a real concern

5:04

Mathenaging : Is Domingo just a slow starter or did I way over value him? I saw him as a 35/10 .280/.850 kinda guy. Maybe Cutch with more power. Was I way off?

5:05

Brad Johnson: Projection looks about right. The issue is accounting for the major downside which is real and readily apparent

5:06

Brad Johnson: Maybe should have been 27/10/.275/.825

5:06

Brad Johnson: Poor man’s George Springer is my regular comp

5:06

Brad Johnson: But like 25% of the outcomes are 12-team unplayable

5:06

Brad Johnson: non-injury outcomes I should add

5:07

Brad Johnson: Thinking probabilistically is hard

5:07

WHIP Appeal : Gallo or Miggy at 1B in OBP league?

5:07

Brad Johnson: …can’t believe it’s time for Gallo

5:07

Don’tBeAHader: Are M.Fulmer and Ryu kinda the same guy? 4-5th SP in a 12 team mixer?

5:07

Brad Johnson: No

5:07

Brad Johnson: Fulmer is much more talented, albeit with weaker support

5:08

Brad Johnson: Time to wrap it up folks.

5:08

Dean: Is José Martínez a sell high candidate? If his bat goes cold, his defence isn’t keeping him in the line up

5:08

Brad Johnson: Yes, I like the sell high mentality

5:08

Brad Johnson: Just don’t force the issue – as always

5:08

Yonny B. Goode: Think Yonny Chirinos sticks in the Rays “rotation” this time around? Is he a must-own in a 12-teamer?

5:08

Brad Johnson: “Should-own”

5:08

Brad Johnson: not yet a must

5:08

Brad Johnson: I do think he’ll stuck in a Erasmo sort of way

5:09

Mathenaging : I have a feeling Hoskins is going to frustrate owners. Ability for 37 homers but mature enough to take a bagillion walks and hit maybe 30 bombs? Like Votto-lite ish I guess.

5:09

Brad Johnson: The poor man Votto comp keeps coming back

5:09

Brad Johnson: As it warms up, I think more of those doubles will leave the yard.

5:10

Brad Johnson: Currently 6 2Bs and 2 HR

5:10

Brad Johnson: Last year it was 7 2B and 18 HR

5:10

Brad Johnson: I’m buying Hoskins in any case

5:10

Hank Chen: Do you think Tucker Barnhart’s improvement in hitting is real? Or do you favor Kurt Suzuki in a league that counts BBs for hitters.

5:11

Brad Johnson: I’ll buy Barnhart improving.

5:11

Brad Johnson: So he’s still in small sample territory

5:11

Brad Johnson: but his change in production is right along the popular air ball path

5:12

Brad Johnson: Everybody is doing it so I’m more inclined to discount the likelihood of steep regression

5:12

Brad Johnson: it’s an educated bet

5:12

Brad Johnson: The plate discipline is a little less certain

5:12

Brad Johnson: ok, I’m out of juice.

5:12

Brad Johnson: A good place to end, sans answer…

5:12

The Man With No Name: What’s an Adam Cimber?

5:13

Brad Johnson: The guy from Name of the Wind
