The Daily Grind: My Grapes, They Are Still Sour

Last Thursday, a couple players not starting and edited my way out of the money. On Friday, I was detained at a dinner five minutes too long to remove Franmil Reyes from my lineup (he sat). Hunter Renfroe (51 points) absolutely would have been my replacement which would have led to over 230 points. Grumble grumble.

Or maybe I would have reconceptualized my entire roster like I did on Thursday. (Based on the two lineups I submitted, I would have found the extra money for Renfroe by downgrading 22-point Alex Bregman).

The Daily Grind: My Grapes, They Are Sour

The Dodgers decision not to start Kyle Garlick led to a chain reaction of roster tinkering that cost me over 60 points. I would have finished second in TDGI – even with a toasted Garlick. My grapes, they are sour.

The Daily Grind: Projection Lag

I had a little Twitter chat with Derek Carty and a reader about DFS outcomes this season. Apparently, “everybody” had a terrible April and great May (I know that’s true for me). Carty chalked it up to volatile pitching outings. I think it might have more to do with projection systems lagging at the start of the season. That’s my theory anyway. I have no plans to test it.

Brad Johnson: “Players aren’t things to be trusted. All you can do is manage them such that they’re in the best possible positions to succeed. In roto and points-based formats, it’s easier to take the long view. Every player comes with lumps, but they usually even out over the course of 162 games. Sale had a couple rocky starts and missed time late in the season. He also posted a 2.11 ERA and 237 strikeouts in 158 innings. His owners got what they paid for.”
